So I deleted mass effect 2 including my saves but then I installed it again with all the dlc. I just wanted to know, when you first play the game, are all the difficulties unlocked? I really don't remember but I'm asking this because the last time I played this, I played it on veteran and now I want to play it on hardcore.  With some games you have to beat the game on normal first to unlock the harder levels so I just want to make sure that my ME2 is not messed up.

I don't believe they are locked.

No I don't believe that either. But I know for a fact that Insanity are available after Normal.

I think hardcore and insanity are locked until you beat the game on any other difficulty. It was like that for Mass Effect 1 at least. Veteran was the highest you could play on a vanilla playthrough.

In ME2 you can start Insanity from the start I believe.

In ME1 you have to beat the game once for Hardcore, then again for Insanity.

If you have a new profile in ME1, then only Casual, Normal, and Veteran are available and you have to beat it once to unlock Hardcore.
