Sten is definitely a samurai. I would speculate that Yukio Mishima inspired somehow Sten's personality. And his painting addiction have lot in common with medieval japan...

They don't raise their own young or have any names but their profession either.

They have a name, but it’s their ancestry.

Oh, yeah. But that is mainly for control purposes right?

It's used exclusively by the Tamassran priesthood.  Sten hints at this, albeit, very, very, very obliquely, but qunari practice selective breeding.  Their names are mostly used for keeping track of recessive and dominant traits the individual may be carrying.

So I'll never see Sten pick up a woman in a bar unless he defects. :(

Edit: But considering that, what is the punishment for copulating without permission? Methinks some of the ones that are executed after their big feast (can't remember the name) may have done dirty deeds.

Re-education by the Ben-Hassrath.  It ain't pretty.

Well, as long as it's not with Qunari females, there shouldn't be such a problem with wanton copulation.

Wanton anything is going to get you in trouble with the Ben-Hassrath.

Well, what happens in Thedas stays in Thedas

They sound like a happy bunch though.

Then how did the first priests become priests I wonder...

They were disciples of Koslun, the guy who wrote the Qun.

Edit: But I assume he selected his disciples by Rock Paper Scissors tournament.

So when exactly was the Qun written? How long have the qunari been living like this?

It predates their arrival in Thedas, but I can't give you a specific date.
