Antiva is not based on Latin Europe, it is based on Anicent Italy...counting on the mere fact that some of the words Zev say are very close to the Italian language....Zev is not a figment Spainard  but a figement Italian...think about it...his thing for women and fine wine, fine leathers...seems to shout Italian to me.

It (Antiva) is based on Venice and the Italian city-states during the renaissance.

Just pointing out that it is Italy and not Spain...

Meh, I'm bored and ancient seemed a little too loose of an definition ;)

Well it is Ancient to us...though I have never been to Italy to see if they still act the way they did back then. I'm not Italian myself anyways but my fiance is...So if Antiva is Italy would....that still make the Tevinter Imperium still believed to be Rome??

Well, it's more based on the Byzantine version of Rome than the old one IIRC.

From what i heard Tevinter imperium is the eastern roman empire with Bisantium (Constantinople or modern days Istanbul) as capital city, while Antiva is northern italy from 1500 circa (Venice).

It's really a stereotyped version of italians tho, even if it exists something you can define "italian", Rome, Milan and Venice have really different people with different sub-cultures. Zevran in particular is an obvious reference to Casanova.

The qunari are militant Buddhists if you do by their culture or Islamic borg if you go by the conflict between the Chantry/Qunari.

‘Stoic, honorable warrior’ was an ideal in so many cultures, suggesting that he’s a samurai just says that you prefer the Japanese flavor of it.

Herr Uhl wrote...

Yes, the women are not warriors. And?

They don't raise their own young or have any names but their profession either.

They have a name, but it’s their ancestry.

Oh, yeah. But that is mainly for control purposes right?

It's nothing that specific. Just like Orlias is combines the French culture and empire with the religious power the Italian popes had and Ferelden's government harkens back to pre-Christian northern Europe while the nobility wear high gothic plate mail. They take flavors and idea from various places, but it's not one for one at all.

Yes, but the way the Qunari treat women is definetly more Middle eastern culture than Asian culture. Some Asian Noble women in History were infact tought the way of the warrior.

Not really. Some women ruled in the Middle East (Zenobia, Semiramis, Queen of Saba, Aisha) and fougth as warriors (classic example is Um Umara, Hind and others).

It's used exclusively by the Tamassran priesthood.  Sten hints at this, albeit, very, very, very obliquely, but qunari practice selective breeding.  Their names are mostly used for keeping track of recessive and dominant traits the individual may be carrying.

That very "borg" attitude made me think on the first place that they were chinese-ish. Not because i consider them "borgs" ofc, just because they are seen this way generally speaking.

In fact someone before mentioned communism at some point.

So I'll never see Sten pick up a woman in a bar unless he defects. :(

Edit: But considering that, what is the punishment for copulating without permission? Methinks some of the ones that are executed after their big feast (can't remember the name) may have done dirty deeds.

Well, as long as it's not with Qunari females, there shouldn't be such a problem with wanton copulation.

From my conversations with Sten, it seemed that Qunari society had more than a smidgen of Plato's republic thrown in. Though not so much when it came to the gender divide, I gotta concede.

I hope future expansions elaborate more on Qunari society, culture and technology. The Battle of Ostagar might have gone differently if Cailan's army had access to cannons...

Whoa. They have cannons and the concept of recessive and dominant traits? Lawful evil cultures are the best.
