The issue seems to rely soley on the developers and writers, like Gaider. Fans have no problems with the Kossith term.

Eh, plenty of people get into arguments over whether or not the term should or should not be used.

I don't care if someone does (or does not) use Kossith. All I ask is that people be respectful to others regardless of which preference they have.

I think most of the fans who argue against the term are doing it on the developers behalf.

The devs said they didn't like the term and it was the wrong term, so the 100% loyal, go-to-sleep-and-dream-about-garrus, BioWare is god, fans have taken it up as a sort of holy mission to enact the developers will onto everyone, as they oft do.

You see the same thing with every game community, or every fandom of any sort of media really. The creator said something, and a portion of the fanbase will take it as absolute law that everyone else has to follow, ignoring the fact that fanbases are always coming up with their own stuff and way of doing things, and that even if the fanbase does something it in no way diminishes the official work where the creators words are indeed law.

The problem is, the term "Kossith" is incorrect when you're talking about the race. It's a culture, not any kind of biological designation. We have nothing to call these beings at the moment, or at least, nothing standard.

And while we are calling them Giants for their stature, we'll call all elves knife-ears because of how their ears are shaped!

And they call humans "quicklings" because of how short their lives are. I don't see your point.

Fans generally call the races by what members of the race call themselves, like calling an elf an elf or a calling a Qunari a Qunari. Qunari don't consider their race to be called giants and elves don't consider their race to be called knife-ears.

But the elves don't call themselves "elves". They call themselves "Elvhen". Humans explicitly called elves "elves", just like they call Qunari "giants".

That's just the dalish that call themselves that. Other elves just call themselves elves. Even some dalish call themselves elves sometimes. People call the Qunari the Qunari because it is what they call themselves. They generally call the elves the elves because most of them call themselves elves. Calling the Qunari giants is like calling the elves knife-ears.

Calling the Qunari "giants" is like calling an Orlesian "human". Or rather, it's like calling a human "human" when you're not sure by looking at him what culture he belongs to, or want to talk about biology.

You know i like would like it if people called Kossith Qunari, even if they weren't one, in game it seems like something that an uneducated peasants with little to no interaction with the Qunari would do.

Also Ox man seems like a better name then giants.

An Orlesian would consider another Orlesian or human to still be a human. A Qunari would consider another member of their race to be a Qunari, not a giant.

Qunari do not consider Tal-Vashoth to be Qunari.

Not all of them are grey, though. Look at Sten, he's copper or gold color- the Qunari/kossith/giants/whatever are explicitly said to have "metallic" colored skin. If their skin color was somehow linked to their area of origin or some other important biolgical feature, maybe we could specify "grey giants", "copper giants", etc, but the fact that the Qunari culture has such an advanced eugenics program would lead me to believe that the point would be moot unless we discover a large non-Qunari population of giants.

We don't really have to cover all the specifics. It's enough to use a term that enyone who reads it will know what it means. Most of them looked greyish, so grey giants would do fine. However, if you want to take in consideration the variation of their skin you can call the Metal Giants B). Still, some people might confuse them with Iron Golems or Metallica.

The giants aren't native to Seheron or Par Vollen, but another continent. As for calling them "grey" or "metal" giants- why? "Giants" suffices just fine- there aren't any other kind of giant out there (biologically) that require use identifying them by their skin color. We don't have "white" or "brown" elves, just "elves", despite their variation in skin color.
