Actually I think  one of the reasons why Blights are so dangerous is because the archdemon is capable of turning them into an actual miltiary force.  Led by an archdemon, darkspawn don't merely swarm.

Point. Either way Loghain isn't the only general the Warden has (not to mention he's not needed at all for the Warden to be successful). Hell Loghain doesn't even make the Warden more successful.

Actually Wynne knew that Loghain did retreat. Did not Uldred get back to the Circle first to lie about it, only to have Wynne come and tell the truth?

No, she believed Loghain turned his back on the battle to "betray his king", while Uldred was the one who informed the Circle of Loghain's tactical withdrawal.

It wasn't tactical. It was betrayal, pure and simple.

It WAS tactical.

Stand on the bridge and see how far the horde swarms.

Look at how Cailan blunders the use of the forces under command when Loghain told him to lure the Darkspawn to him, not charge them out in the valley with all flanks exposed.

Look at how the Darkspawn invasion of the tower delayed the beacon and it was only lit at a time when Cailan's forces were fracturing.

Look at how even when it's lit, it's still not the right time to charge because not all of the Darkspawn are in the field. If Loghain had charged, the Anvil&Hammer strategy would've been a flop.

And remember that Loghain has repeatedly tried to warn Cailan off the field AND has tried to talk strategy with him, only for Cailan to go "BUT I WANT GLORIOUS BATTLES!!"

Psst, guys.  People are pleading with us to get back to the OT.

The tower that should've been secured a long time beforehand? (I'd argue it was more incompetence on the armies end that lead to that how did they miss those giant holes in the ground for one thing?)

Ogres are the cause of the hole. It wasn't pre-existing. The soldiers just found a door that led to lower chambers.

Ogres are living siege engines, capable of destroying things easily. The Stolen Throne actually shows us how Ogrs managed to take down a solid Dwarven style door in the Deep Roads.

Fair enough. I just don't see Loghain fairing any better.

Loghain knows Denerim's layout, and could theoretically pinpoint ways for the troops to best make use of it.

Before going into any deep detail: Why?  What was Loghain's reason?

"Return to Ostagar" reveals that Cailan had plans for much closer diplomatic relations with Orlais, possible even involving a political marriage. Loghain might have thought Cailan was betraying his country.

(And I agree it wasn't any kind of reasonable tactics. It was betrayal)

So....HOW bout that Dorian Pavus guy? He seems nice.

lol... my favorite part of this thread is how the title and OP don't match.  But I'll just go with the title, since we only know of 2 female party members.

How damaged is he?  How tragic is his tale?  Does he have a dark secret?  This is how I predict who will be an LI.
And come on... you know that Cullen is an LI if he's a companion.  He's like... the most popular male in the series at this point!

It would be very surprising if he wasn't a companion and LI. But we don't know anything. Doesn't that sum things up perfectly and comprehensibly?

1) Loghain did NOT know about the messages to Celene until you bring him there. While the original intention was for him to know about it during Ostagar, that was (thankfully) scrapped and Loghain's dialogue is clear that he's discovering it for the first time.

2) If Celene had married Cailan, all that would've happened is that Ferelden would've become a province of the Empire. Celene is noted to be an expansionist like her ancestor K. Drakon I, founder of Orlais (only she tries non-bloodshed methods).

Cailan was a fool if he was actually going to consider marrying Celene. It's ambiguous if he was going to do it or not, though the notes heavily imply so.

OT: Loghain LI is no just... no. I'd take a thousand Anders clones over Loghain. Bleh.

=] You are ABSOLUTELY correct about this......if Loghain knew about any of that in the game.  If you take Loghain with you, he's as surprised as the other members.  This WOULD have been his reason for betraying Cailan if this plot hadn't basically been abandoned before the game shipped.  In that version, Loghain knew and he betrayed Cailin since he thought Cailian was betraying both Ferelden and his daughter.  In the released game however, this plot element was abandoned except for the DLC.  There are traces of it you can still find, but it's mostly wiped clean.  Since that motivation was wiped though, Loghain no longer had that motivation.  The new reason is simply that it was a tactical retreat.  There are plenty of posts by Gaider as well stating as such in a bunch of the old threads where we used to debate about this all the time.

Only if his character has him feeling guilty over killing hundreds of innocent men, women, and children in DAII's endgame in an unjustified RoA, regardless of romance.

Seriously, the dude has to feel some major guilt over that. Otherwise I'm not going to buy into his character at all.

As long he doesn't have to go horizontal with some creepy woman. And flood her pond with his swimmers. Biggest turnoff imaginable.

Ugh no. I don't mind him being similar to his stance in DA2 about it (if you did the rite in DAO). But anymore angst and I won't take him seriously as a templar.

People in DA do crappy things to people doesn't mean they need to put on an angst a thon.

What if he spends every convo you have with him mourning the horrible things he has felt and done while still believing mages need some form of overseeing?

There's one Ogre in the tower on the top flower (that for some baffling reason hasn't broken the doors leading upstairs). So unless ONE ogre made all those massive holes...

Well, I imagine the hole that led the Darkspawn in there was dug by the grunts and the Ogre was responsible for the breaching into the Tower proper.

No clue how it managed to squeeze through the other doors without making more holes, but it's evident the hole that led into the tower was caused by him.

assuming people would listen to him. And that clearly doesn't happen in game anyway. (If anyone ends up being the general it's Riordan).

Justified a bit. Since his taint is far more pronounced, he can sense the Darkspawn Generals whereas newbies can't.

But I'd hardly call him a general other then "They're here and here".

I'm sick of both.

Feel like I did with the Krogan and the Salarians. I really want my blow them both up option.

If Cullen grows up, I will more than happily claim him as mine....unless Iron Bull is romanceable, in which I will drop Cullen in a heartbeat.
