I can't see Iron Bull either since I don't believe the average female player would be interested in romancing a giant bull guy. I'd actually place money on Varric before I placed it on Iron Bull or the old grey warden and that's pretty much just because Varric's history in the franchise already.
See, while I wouldn't discount Varric (and he obviously is my own preference) I wouldn't rule out Iron Bull. I think quite a lot of female players would want to romance him.

Alright, you heard him. Ladies and gentleman, it has been confirmed from on high. Dorian is no longer a companion. So mote it be!!!!!
@Silfren - What do you think of the ratio of humans? Does it seem like they'd be favored, given these limitations?

If the choice comes down to Varric and Iron Bull, I'm SO putting in my vote for Varric. If it were actually to come down to those two, I think the popular dwarf would definitely be a safer bet than the unknown.

Varric aside, I would totally be all over that female Qunari from the concept art.

If that's so, hopefully there's still a male elf in this roster. Or a dwarf. Or Qunari.

Well , Sten already had the qunari who's a softie role.
So I expect the Iron Bull will be the qunari rebel who doesn't care about kitten.

Same situation as Varric, unfortunately. IMO, humans, or even elves to some extent, are a safer bet. There just aren't enough romances to go around. I forsee Varric and Iron Bull battling for the 3rd slot if we have 3 male LIs. Otherwise, 2 humans.Silfren wrote...
What about Iron Bull? From what I'm seeing there's some noticeable interest in being able to romance him. Don't know anything about this Dorian character.
Of course, this is even assuming Cullen is in the game. If he is, there's no way I'd bet against him as an LI. If not... well, that changes things considerably.
I really don't get how this "safer bet" logic works... Giant space raptor with half a face? "He's gonna be a hit!" (And he was). Charming, charismatic dwarf with awesome chest hair? "No one will ever go for that, back to the drawing board."

This is pretty much why I say Varric has a better chance if they do go with 3 LI's. Varric already has a popular following, so it'd be easier to go with him after the two usual LI's are taken care of.fiveforchaos wrote...

Huh? I said that humans are a safer bet than other races if we only have 2 LIs... I wasn't comparing Iron Bull and Varric's chances. In fact, I think they are neck and neck, but only if there's a third option. I don't see either of them taking the place of humans...fiveforchaos wrote...

@Silfren - What do you think of the ratio of humans? Does it seem like they'd be favored, given these limitations?
Couldn't say. Kind of hard to see trends with just the two games to go by. But it does look like Bioware doesn't think players would be interested in dwarf romances. (I would wonder if there was an issue with the graphics, as I do remember there being some visual hiccups in Origins between a dwarf Warden and their LI, but this wouldn't be an issue if the PC was a dwarf romancing a dwarven LI, so I dunno).
I'd have expected the number of LIs to be the usual four, but some people seem to expect as many as six. I'm not sure where that's coming from, but if there are six, I...well, I don't know how it would be handled. It would be NICE to see them break down the numbers equally: a male and female LI for each race. But that would exclude Iron Bull automatically, by sticking with the three base races.
I agree that if Cullen is a companion, there's like a 99.99% chance of his being an LI. I think the same is almost certainly true of Cassandra. If four LIs, there's two slots taken up right there. Hmmm. I don't know anything about Dorian, but I think it would be a missed opportunity to not have the chance to romance a Tevinter character.
Bah. The more I consider it the less I'm sure about anything beyond Cullen himself.

As for DA:I romances... Well, as stated before (even with different writers) ME2 ans 3 had HEAPS of romance-ables. And with 9 confirmed, possinle companions, i'm sure we could manage more than 4 L.I's in DA:I.
I have 6 characters in both Origins and 2, each with different views and sexualities, so having the romances be more like ME-styles would suit me very muchly.
And as a Gaymer, give me a sexy elf guy for my Bloodmage to badoink-a-doink, and i'll be doubley happy

Anyway, hopefully this time, characters are going to be more realistic than in DA 2, especially when it comes to relationships. Having everybody on the team as a bisexual is such a cheap way to tackle the underlying problems. I'd rather see myself being turned down by a character because I'm "not their type", than everybody behaving like they want a piece of me.
I really want to see characters denying any sort of romance again(like Sten), I want them to turn down the protagonist because he/she is ******/Heterosexual. I want them to be proper life like characters, not player-slaves.
Tired of seeing all the "player preference" which is doing nothing but turning the characters into puppets. "I don't want my companions to leave me, even if they hate me" "I don't want my characters to decline my love letter", ugh...

I really, really want to see Varric as a romance option. For one we haven't had a Dwarf romance and two he fits the bill of being a caring lover, IMO.
And I would love love love! to see Iron Bull as an LI. Big and muscular, that's how I like 'em.
I will put the Grey Warden as a honorable mention. Because in all fairness he is tall, ripped and ohmygod.
