Fenris didnt really know about sex either. A loving relationship with Cole could certainly lead to a physical one, like as exists in many samesex relationships as one or both partners are having their first experience. It could be great and offer some nice character growth, and be a nice change from the man**** that was Zevran =p.

But Fenris did not regress to a child like mentality. Cole has a crap ton of issues to deal with as well. For one, what in the world is he?
Edit: And Zevran's romance was awesome.

Merrill was a child mentally, Cole is just the obvious next step.

She seemed more innocent, but that does not equate to being childlike necessarily.

Heh. Alistar war functionally a child. Merril and Fenris-- too. Especially Fenris. So Cole_LI isn't something strange, it's rather tradition.

Naive, not childlike.

There's a difference between brooding whining and being abit stroppy sometimes and being as developed emotionally as a 5 year old. Cole is the latter (Not to mention not even human etc.)

naive, physically younger looking with the wide eyes and small body, doesn't get innuendo, lots of things like that.

Even though he probably wouldn't be a LI (GERHDAMNIT!!! D':< ) he'd be a really cool character with an awesome story arch.
So make them a companion and then I'll shut my fat piehole. (...and a LI please I'm not giving in 'til I get what I want!1!!1!!!) >:D

She hasn't been around humans before and I highly doubt the Dalish indulge in such innuendo.

As for his LI status, I would not hold my breath if Gaider's post is anything to go by.

Yeah, one should not really equate naiveté (or whatever other personality characteristics you consider immature) with Cole. It's explicitly stated that Cole sees people in the tower having sex, and doesn't understand it--there's no concept of arousal, not to mention the social under-development he otherwise displays.

If that doesn't impact you, and you really think you could "teach" him to understand these things... ummm, okay. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.

And what about Fenris? He lost his memory and the most of remembered life was a "weapon" without will. In DA2 he is also a child functionally.
I don't want Cole as LI, I was only surprised that it was told about age. I thought that Cole have a bit another emotions because of his supernatural nature.

I mean, do we even know if this Cole is even "alive", much less human?

They properly don't do human innuendo, but have their own, properly wood relateed... and Merril is actually quite interested in sex. She wants to understand the dirty jokes so she knows that they entail, hint in act 1 that she is attracted to Hawke (banter with Aveline), looks through Anders' books for 'dirty' spells and thinks the qunari are easy on the eye.

So she definitly knows what sex is.

Lol. I wonder why we're still debating about wanting to romance someone with the mind of a child.

I really don't think you understand what being functionally a child means.  The description does NOT apply to Alistair, Merrill, or Fenris at all.
