Merrill was a child mentally, Cole is just the obvious next step.

She seemed more innocent, but that does not equate to being childlike necessarily.

"Ohh look at the nice spirit", I bet letting him each me blood magic is gonna be fine and won't backfire in any way shape or form"

[citation needed]

Naive, not childlike.

naive, physically younger looking with the wide eyes and small body, doesn't get innuendo, lots of things like that.

She hasn't been around humans before and I highly doubt the Dalish indulge in such innuendo.

Right.... the Dalish don't do innunedo...

I'm actually gonna need a citation on that one

They properly don't do human innuendo, but have their own, properly wood relateed... and Merril is actually quite interested in sex. She wants to understand the dirty jokes so she knows that they entail, hint in act 1 that she is attracted to Hawke (banter with Aveline), looks through Anders' books for 'dirty' spells and thinks the qunari are easy on the eye.

So she definitly knows what sex is.

Don't see how this shows maturity, if that is what you mean. I knew what sex was when I was ten.

Is Cole incapable of growing? There is a passage of time between book and game, presumably over the course of the game itself. I figured him as being adolescent in the book and coming of age mentally in his travels with the inquisitor

Of course, sexual/physical interest is biochemical and Cole is a spirit so that is certainly confusing, but I would enjoy Cole as an LI even if it wasn't sexual (and it wouldn't be the first chaste romance in DA)

There is a difference between knowing what sex is and understanding it. I think I was properly 10-11 when I was reading novels which included sex scenes and knew what they was... I was much older before I understood it.

Merrill quite clearly imagine herself a part of the whole sex thing, which is not a child's mentality. Children might know what sex is, but untill they begin to hit puberty they do not understand it the same way adults do.

After where it shows maturity it depends on what kind of maturity it is. But she does in no way think like a child.

Pretty much though at the same time it seems he's a bit different, since he has maintained being manifest for however many years, whereas spirits should essentially fade away in the none fade.

As for the Fenris comparisons, losing your memory isn't a complete factory reset, you lose memories which inform your personality but in the majority as far as I know you retain your maturity and speech. it's more akin to a child being in a coma until they're adult in age.

The personality of Jaime was so he a most of his live loved one woman. So if it would be 'Jaime', he also willn't be interested in Inqisitor, I think.

Yes. But then he decided to be a true knight and do not waste time for sex. )

But I understand what you mean. "I'm so impudent and pert, but deep inside I'm disappointed romantic. If you endure my roughness, I become more kind, told you my very very sad story from the past... And when you stanch my tears, I said I love you and so on".
You know. I'm sure, that it will be shouting at all forums, that the character is whiner and 'we want have true maaaaan'.

As for me, I want for LI elf written by D.Gaider. I loved Zev and Fenris so much so I think D.Gaider is master of writing romancable elves. )
Also I liked Dorian from rumors but it's said that there will be no Dorian. Sadly.

It still doesn't show maturity. I'm not saying that she doesn't have it, but wanting to have sex with things does not make you mature, and going through puberty is the first step towards maturity, it's not a straight line however. Wanting to have sex and being ready to have sex are not the same thing.

I think we will get a qunari LI (not sure if male or female) Varric will be the first dwarf LI and be a male option. I imagine we will get a mage (for the love of god not anders or merril).

A big, hairy guy. With a full beard, of course. Also I wouldn't mind him being around his 50's. A real bear.
That being said, that Warden fellow looks promising. And I know, it's been said before, but the whole Calling business would make things really interesting for the romance.

I don't think there's any reason at all to fear that previous LIs will reappear as LIs again.

So it'd be like Thane all over again, with the additional pain of your LI going crazy on you. I know the writers feed off the fandom's tears but I don't think there's enough room in all the wine cellars of Europe to store haul they'd be getting from that particular storyline.
