Fallout: Detroit. It's set prior to the apocalypse but you don't know that until the end, the plot twist amazes everyone and all controversy from the FO3 ending is forgotten.

I'd rather live in New Vegas than modern day Detoilet.

I generally prefer we go to a city location, I liked New Vegas but dislike the desert, Fallout 3 DC was much more enjoyable and truly felt like a survivor.

New Orleans would be cool, yeah. I've always wanted to see what happened to Texas, too. Tycho and Cassidy both mention it, and the Van Buren design documents mentioned giant radioactive tornados raging for much of the year.

If I could pick anywhere for the next Fallout game to take place around, though, with my preferred developer, I'd go with the Pacific Northwest, with Seattle as the centerpiece city. Take a break from a desert wasteland (an inexplicably desert wasteland, in the Capital Wasteland's case - I've been to DC, place is a frigging swamp), go for a heavily forested wasteland instead. Show off some weather, and the Space Needle would be as iconic as Atomic-era monument destruction porn can get.

I've thought of this too, but I fear that it might look a little bit like TES w/ the forests and what not. I don't know how they would do a post-apocalyptic forest being all lush and green.

Wasn't the planned FO: Online—which, thankfully, got scrapped—going to take place in Seattle?

Well, Canada was annexed by the US, so perhaps somewhere up there?

But then again, it wouldn't exactly be too different from the previous: trade out a arid desert for a tundra. There are parts of Canada that aren't like that of course, but far and few, and mostly in the summer.

So, a frozen wasteland, then? That's not bad.

There's actually mods out there that change the Capital Wasteland and the Mojave to just that.

Would be kinda dope if that were integrated into the next game proper, choice of climate and mali that come along with that. Or changing seasons, if they can pull that off.

Since we were talking about the capital wasteland earlier, what do you guys think it became after FO3? Do you think that if we purified the water and spreaded Harold seeds, would we get an paradise esque place after a few decades?

Don't know, does Fallout have a canon? How does each game deal with multiple choices from previous games?

My husband came home last night with two new copies of FO3 UE, and he started playing. He'd missed V.A.T.S. (I'd already started a NV run, and didn't feel like dropping it to start another new one, just yet). We had FO3 for PS3 before, but it was uber buggy, so we got 360 versions this time around.

Anyway, my hubs had played FO3 a long time ago, and his character was pretty dang evil. This time, he started a new paragon character, and was crushed when he told Lucas Simms about Mister Burke threatening to blow up the town, and...well, now he's dead. They're both dead. He was going to reload, but would lose some time.

I said I'd reload, or go into Simms' house, get the bobblehead, and be on my way. So he puts on the Sheriff Duster and Hat, and gets the bottlehead, and of course, Simms' son walks in and says, "You may wear the badge, but you're not my father!" Aww.

In my NV game, I went into the Thorn for the first time. For some reason, I never actually went into that place, in any of my runs. How have I been missing out on Red Lucy and her sexy sleepwear all this time?

I started over FNV yet again after last night. >.< My high intelligence energy weapons gal didn't make it out of Goodsprings before I was bored out of my mind. :P I'm going back to unarmed/melee. It's a miracle I made it through my whole first run with guns, 'cause I can never get into them in this series.

You must have gone through Red Lucy's quests fast. I remember her making me jump through quite a few hoops before that point. And I thought I was demanding. XD

There is a canon that gets established as new games are added to the series. I wouldn't expect definitive answers on the post F3 wasteland unless F4 references it, or takes place in or near the same area.

^ Sorry to hear your smarty pants didn't make the cut. In retrospect, I'm already wishing I had focused a little bit more on Charisma than I did. I am running out of magazines to use. Hehe. And Lockpicking. I've had to leave several safes behind already.

Oh, heavens, no. I haven't done any of Red Lucy's quests yet. Image IPB I was wondering why every single conversation topic with her included a 'hey baby, let's shag'-type dialogue option, so I looked it up on the wiki this morning.

I left off last night at the Sarsaparilla factory. We cleared everything out, but now I'm trying to figure out where the key is to that one locked door. Not that it necessarily goes anywhere, but it's a locked door! Must.open.it.

It was less her stats than the gunplay that got to me. I just can't give up the variety of different unarmed moves later on, I guess. XD Charisma seems to be a popular dump stat. I've never gone with less than 6, and I usually spring for an implant later too. Companions can be lethal with high charisma. Aaanyways, this time I think I'll last. I only quit my last unarmed game because I accidentally dropped an extra point into Perception than I needed for Better Criticals, and it kept nagging me. Hopefully it works out this time.

I think you stop getting the option to ask Lucy for sexytimes after suggesting it once. Or maybe I don't remember it right? Only finished her quest line the one time, and it wasn't too memorable. Then again, one night stand so yeah... she's no Christine. :)

The locked door may be the one you need 50 star bottle caps to open. I didn't bother completing that quest last time, so I'm not sure. Ran through that place fast to finish Lafferty's quest and never returned.

I have never tried unarmed. I'm so much more of a ranged combat person that up close and personal kinda scares the bejesus out of me. Maybe if my sneak was higher, I could do it. As it is, everyone hears us coming from a mile away. They start shooting holes in my poor Courier, and it's all I can do to fight back. They're usually too far away for VATS to do much. Good thing for Boone and ED-E.

I spent a little too much time in Fiend territory last night. Picked up a lot of laser weaponry, at least. And crippled many limbs by walking over their stupid mines.

It's possible to run through gunfire relatively unscathed if you pick up enough DT bonuses and use chems. Some folks prefer going full on power armor. I prefer light armor with sneak, but sneak isn't necessary once the build starts coming together. There's so many damage modifiers in a crit focused unarmed build you can kill the average deathclaw in a single blow at higher levels. I tend to go all out with the +damage perks, tho'. Purifier, Entomologist, ect. I take melee for throwing weapons and to access perks requiring points in both skills. Never seriously focused on melee, but from what I read it's just as brutal.

The one sucky thing is you can't target body parts in VATS. What makes up for it are the four techniques you can learn. In short (too late!) I like the playstyle because it feels very active with all the blocks and special moves. Also the aesthetic of my gal with this giant mechanical fist. :D

...I hate mines. XD I was planning to take Boone along in my last game, but eh... I think I'll try to do his quests then drop him on this one. He has a habit of killing people before I can punch them. >.<

@Seagloom - I could have sworn I was able to disarm those stupid mines in previous runs; maybe via a perk, or higher explosives skill. I'll have to look into it, as I'm confusing it with Skyrim in my mind, with the Light Step perk.

Ha, I bet Boone does ruin that for you. Every so often, I get to see a kill shot by something he's killed that I haven't even noticed yet. A good problem-solver, that one.

So if you're using one of those fist weapons, do you ever go pick up Veronica, so the both of you can punch the crap out of your foes? It seems like that would be pretty cool to watch. The no VATS part kinda stinks, but I guess it makes sense.

@Addai - Oh, the lulz. A baseball bat? Seems like a fitting death for Mister Burke. And a Vault 101 one at that. Image IPB

I do not recommend Veronica if you are playing on hardcore because you will accidently kill her but if you are just playing normally then definitely take her. Two friends spending there days punching things can't be beat. Also, if you have the perk that lets you knock enemies down you can send deathclaws flying with any heavy melee weapon. (super sledge, blade of the east, bumper sword, etc)

Yup, it's affected by explosives. Patriot's Cookbooks are always handy. There is a light step perk in NV that lets you avoid them completely. Not sure if it also applies to your companions.

Boone doesn't kill steal often in tight quarters. It's when we're running around outside that he does it. His ranged damage is brutal. XD At least with ED-E I might get a few hits in.

I pick up Veronica for a little while to learn her Scribe Counter move during "Beyond the Beef". It's not necessary, but it saves me the trouble of running back to her with a dress mid-quest. Veronica is buggy as heck even with fan patches, though; and personality wise I vastly prefer Cass.

Cass actually has melee weapons tagged, so she's about as good with say, "Oh, Baby!" as a shotgun. A close combat duo can definitely kick ass. The only time it's problematic is in tight quarters like hallways. Sometimes everyone crowds around the same target and it's easy to unintentionally cripple them outside VATS. >.<

@Slotts - I gotta admit, I'm intrigued, now. I looked some of them up on the wiki, and the Fist of Rawr looks interesting. I just don't know if I'm ready to give up my rifles and plasma weaponry. Image IPB

@Seagloom - Thanks, I'll have to brush up on my explosives skill, so I can avoid blowing my limbs off in the future. I will definitely take any perks that allow me to keep them intact, and reduce damage (or raise DT). Isn't there also an Adamantium Skeleton perk in NV (or am I thinking of FO3)?

^You could have both skills, for example sometimes I just go guns/unarmed and ignore energy weapons entirely.

As for Veronica, I think even if you don't use her while using unarmed she tends to want to get herself killed. For example, there's a deathclaw out there, she charges at it. No good ending can come of that, I've tried fighting deathclaws with ballistic fists and most of the times they die I end up with very little health.

^ I'm still a sucker for plasma guns. I can't help it. There's just something indescribably awesome about green piles of goo that make me happy. Maybe I'll add unarmed to my box of tricks...I might have to just try it with ants, or something not terribly powerful, to get the hang of it. And keep guns on the side. I can't even imagine trying to fight Cazadores with those.

Speaking of which, I have like 12 pistols/rifles/shotguns I'm toting around. I keep finding more, so I keep repairing them. Then hoarding them.

I never really did enjoy having Veronica with me, personally, as I noticed that same thing. I'd almost rather have Lily and her invisible friend along, than deal with that CHARGE! nonsense.

On a sidenote, I spoke with Julie Farkas ala the Followers, and instantly recognized Laura Bailey. I don't think I realized before that she was the VA.

It's part of why I enjoyed taking Veronica as a tank, even if you folks have already chatted about that.

Ballistic Fist isn't that good IMO. Try Greased Lightning with its insane attack speed instead. At higher levels use a Super-heated Saturnite Fist with the Pyromaniac perk, or the Fist of Rawr. With any of those weapons and the Purifier perk, I turn deathclaws into smears on the ground in seconds on very hard difficulty.

Then there's the Industrial Hand. I actually recommend against using that fist because it's so OP it ruins any fun derived from combat. It has a rapid fire mode where you just gut anyone in range with its saw. That attack checks for critical hits constantly every second. With a high crit unarmed build the damage is obscene. We're talking several thousand damage in a few seconds. You can't perform special moves with that first either; which makes it even more boring IMO.

@happy_diaz

Yup, Adamantium Skeleton is available from level 14. Also check out Hit the Deck and Light Step if you want to never worry about them again. :D Although you may want to pass on Adamantium Skeleton if you're planning to play Old World Blues. I won't spoil why, but you'll find other ways to reduce limb damage in that DLC.
