Dead Money is criminally underrated. Probably the most tightly woven story line of the four DLCs (although "best story" would have to go to Honest Hearts, in as much as Joshua Graham's character is the real story of it). excellent atmosphere, memorable companions.

OMG, Dead Money is...terrifying. I've already blown myself up, barely took out one of those shadow peeps, and have some other guy talking all scary-like to me.

I might be too much of a scaredy cat for this. :?

It is intimidating at first. Save often... as if you need me to tell you. But seriously, there is at least one area which is a dead end AFAIK. Anyway I've never gotten out of it alive. And of course your head exploding like a melon every 10 minutes should tell you that saves are good.

I put off getting this one because I think it didn't like it. Strangely, as I was on my 2nd run, I missed it. It reminds me of Bioshock. The atmosphere is oppressive but I dunno, the music, the strange noises, the companions... it's now one of my favorites. The end scene so perfectly illustrates story through gameplay.

Its underrated because it was not your typical fallout experience according to some "experts" who thought the cloud. the speakers and the Ghost People were too tough. They were upset they couldn't run n gun like a bunch of animals, but instead they had to weigh the options, see if it was a good idea to waste your Police Pistol bullets on the ghost people or if it was better to sneak around them or just tear them apart with melee weapons and lose a lot of health in the process.

People didn't like that it was about survival, I think that's one of its best features along with the story, and Obsidian did right by doing something different from the typical shoot enemies loot bodies.

If you like mods that are big, add a lot of stuff, including cut content, I recommend FOOK. There are also a lot of other big overhauls I run along side it but you must know how to make them play nice with each otherwise they'll have a lot of conflicts.

I liked everything about dead money but the speakers. I hate insta kills with a passion.

I'm surprised this was an issue for folks. Taking too much damage, I mean. I guess because it's melee versus unarmed? Once you get your hands on a bear trap fist with its tasty x2 limb damage, you can easily drop a ghost person in a single VATS rotation. If you don't pop any limbs off in the process, just keep hitting them while they're on the ground until one is severed. They'll never get back up after that.

Unarmed makes fighting them easy mode IMO. >.<

Agreed though, great DLC. My favorite of FNV's four by a wide margin.

I don't know, I usually get points for both melee and unarmed, never liked the beartrap fists though so stick to using their spears and if you're lucky enough you can find an axe in the firehose containers or a sledge hammer in the workers area, that makes short work of them. However, there are times when they can really destroy your health even with those things. When the ones that throw bombs appear, its better to hide and wait until they throw their bombs and miss, they never miss not unless you're behind cover.

The other annoying guys are the big ones that have the bear trap fists and the ones that throw spears, the ones with bear trap fists are really tough though, it takes a while to take them out. As to why people found this frustrating, I've got no clue, seems to me like some people just found it "too hard" and dismissed Dead Money as a whole.

True. Sometimes it's easier to sneak. Especially when there's a group. Dropping one won't help much if others are whacking you in VATS. >.< Still, I found it sooo much easier than guns. Man, fighting them with guns is just a PITA.

All that said, I found ghost people way less annoying than the cazadore explosion that was OWB. XD

I think the other thing that doesn't work in DM's favor is its story has layers that aren't immediately obvious. Kinda like The Lonesome Road in that regard. Speaking for myself, I didn't get all of the subtext until I stopped to think about it. I hope we see something like it again someday.

Well, I think I started getting used to the creepy DM environment, and pushed myself forward. That whole Dog/God interaction blew my mind. Then I got to Dean Domino, and realized how much fun I was having. I also realized how much fun those bear trap dealios are. Awesome kill shots. I haven't been using guns at all, really. I kept Dog as a follower, so I've been doing ok with the Ghost people. So far.

Now I'm in the medical clinic, and don't have high enough Lockpick skill to get into the basement. Argh. Grind, I guess?

This is a really cool DLC. Even if it is scary as hell. :D

Edit: I got the basement key, yay!

First time through Dead Money, I thought it was a chore, because I guess, I really didn't get it at first glance.

Second and third time though, as I paid attention and picked up more and more of the story bits, that eluded me the first time, I've come to think of it as a masterpiece, and something I look forward to now, as opposed to dreading.

***EDIT: Minor, minor Dead Money end game SPOILERS ALERT for Happy Daiz (Don't read until your done with DM just to be safe)...I'm serious...***

Besides the whole Elijah, Christine and Ulysses connection, and the underlying story and connection with OWB and Lonesome Road, I appreciate the gameplay; starting you off as a hostage/prisoner then testing survival and other skills I typically pay minimal attention to (PER and IN with Christine; Melee and Sneak with the Ghost People; etc). It really just forces the player to think their way through the game by stripping you to nothing to start, adding puzzle-like levels, placing severe constraints on you, and topping that all off with almost claustrophobic hazards and environments. I also like the little things like testing your greed at the end.

The DLCs for New Vegas were exceptional. Some of the best I ever played. All were unique, had their own personality, stressed different skills, but were so neatly tied together (Honest Hearts more so with the main plot [with the exception of Ulysses] of New Vegas, and the other three, to each other). Of all, I'd have to say OWB was my favorite primarily because I'm a fan of old world sci-fi, and couldn't stop laughing every time I met with the Think Tank. Lady Killer with Dala (or Light Switch 02 upstairs) was pure LOL.

SInce we're talking about OWB, what decision did everyone with regards to the Think Tank?

SPOILER
I had them all killed, they can't be trusted, sure they say they'll stop, but what if they get ideas all over again, they know about Mobius, he can't keep them there forever, they are still humans you know. I left Mobius alive though, he was my favorite character from OWB and the only one with any sense.

As for my favorite DLC, I'm going to say it was Lonesome Road, Ulysses is just great, in the end he wasn't so perfect as he wanted you to think he was. But the prize for best antagonist has to go to Elijah, even if he's a madman he still gives the appearance that he isn't.

Well, I just went back to the fountain, and talked to everyone. Poor Christine. Dang.

Does it matter which order you take them to their designated spots in? I've been hiding behind Dog, and I'm not too proud to admit that I'm a little apprehensive about having to fend for myself with the other two, hehe.

Thanks for noting spoilers. :)

I really liked having a mute companion. Would love to see another company give it at try, one known for good facial animations etc.

I didn't mind Dead Money at first, I got REALLY tired of the bomb collar towards the end though.

Yes, interacting with Dala and the light switches with Cherchez la Femme was pretty hilarious. XD OWB was hysterical. So much so I was completely blindsided whenever it got serious.

Edit: Order doesn't matter. I went with Christine, God, then Dean; but I don't think it makes any functional difference.

Spoilery Stuff 'n' Things...

Dead Money was my favorite. I think I need to revisit The Lonesome Road again. I powered through it last time as by then I was tiring of my current run and wanted to end it. Of the four, it was my least favorite above Honest Hearts; which I felt was the worst overall. Still, I think it needs another pass. Despite finding all Ulysses's holotapes and exploring thoroughly enough to nuke all the warheads, I don't feel like I quite got the message they were going for. Still, I liked how it ended. It capped the DLC story arc nicely, and primed me for finishing the core game.

I had no intention of wearing Ulysses's Duster at first, but afterward I kinda felt like I had to for IC reasons. Like those experiences changed my Courier and a part of Ulysses and all those she met before him marked her forever.

As for the Think Tank, I left them and Mobius alive. Maybe they were scum when they had bodies. And maybe they will be tempted to break out again. But maybe they won't. I chose to believe the better part of their inner humanity would shine through, after most of them were reminded of what being a person used to feel like. Sometimes you just gotta take a leap of faith and risk trusting people... or brains in jars as the case may be.

From a pragmatic perspective, I also thought they could help improve quality of life in the Mojave. I went for the Independent ending, so House won't be around to spread his technology. Through the Think Tank, the Courier might be able to accomplish things she otherwise couldn't.

My Courier spared them all (they entertained him greatly and he was able to forgive that whole taking his brain out thing apparently) and now they work for him under his watchful eye...independent, rebuild civilization with whatever flawed but effective things you have available, laissez faire type he is. They may have gone off the rails long ago, but I think they just need a little tough love and adult supervision.

I ended up taking Christine first, then Dean. Now I'm taking Dog. I haven't tried him out as God yet. His voice scares me. LOL

The vending machines totally remind me of BioShock. Love it.

This place still scares me. I think it has a lot to do with the ambient music. They really nailed the mood with it. I will be ready for vanilla when this is done. So far, I like this more than Honest Hearts. This makes you plan your moves very carefully.

I'm not so trustful towards them and they have to pay for what they have done for so many years as well. They didn't just do horrible things when they put themselves in jars but when they were human they also ran all those experiments. The Sierra Madre is an example of their brutality and who knows what other atrocities they committed along the way.

I don't trust them to leave the Mojave alone, if they couldn't stop experimenting all those years ago, they won't stop now. Besides, they're probably insane from having been stuck for so long in that place.

I spared them, except for Mobius. No more damn Robo-Radscorpions plaguing the Big MT! :D He was eager to find out about death.

My favorite was Old World Blues, but I really enjoyed them all. I helped God out, wondered if Veronica and Christine reunited (given the implication of her backstory, and Christine learning about the battle between two Couriers at the Divide), and spared Ulysseus. I only wish the Yes Man choice wasn't bugged in Lonesome Road.

I haven't found that there's any advantage or disadvantage whose mini-quest you do first. Each follower has their very helpful little perk so it's all about even.

Very much a Bioshock vibe, yes. Actually I played Bioshock after FNV, so it was good preparation.

I'm sadly leaning toward no after the audio hoax reveal. Sunday just seems like a weird day to make a game announcement. Most gaming press has a skeleton crew on weekends, if anyone; and you'd think Bethesda would want to make a splash with this news.

I'd like being pleasantly surprised, tho'. Rather be proven wrong than right about this.

I'm actually dreading tomorrow, something tells me it is a hoax but I don't want to believe that.

If it was fake, surely Bethesda would of said by now?
