I'd prioritize better criticals, jury rigging, and silent running then. Then you can at least sneak at normal speed. If you go that route you can stick with the stealth suit.

I think taking perks you find fun is most important. 'cause it's a game so it should be fun. XD I usually take black widow and cherchez la femme on the same character. Besides, you installed DLCs mid-game so you weren't aware of what was available as you leveled. Can't be helped. My first time through NV with all DLC I made choices I regretted too.

Speaking of cherchez la femme, you can flirt with light switch 2 if you take it. Funny moment. XD

@Barbarossa - The way I'm poking around, I will probably be level 50 when I get to LR. I mean, I still have 10 locations to find and explore in Big MT.

I should have taken Jury Rigging long ago. Each time I've chosen a perk, I've thought about it, then chose something else. It took having the Stealth suit break to shake some sense into me. The realization that I had nothing to wear was the last straw. And that's not just because I'm female.

And I need to find all of my robotic assistant personality holodiscs and upgrades. Good lord, speaking of those, I'm amazed at how naughty they are. I mean...I'm the last person to be offended by swearing or innuendo, but those machines are something else! The toaster is an absolute riot.

I am only missing the light switch #2, and a couple of upgrades, I think.

@Seagloom - I have the Auto Doc upgraded, and I think he did say I had one chance to change my looks...and maybe attributes? I don't currently have any of the sneak perks you mentioned, and I only have a few more chances to pick them before I'm maxed. Dammit, maybe I didn't need Black Widow, and some of that other crap after all. Hmmpf. Twice, I put points into S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Now I wish I'd used those perks elsewhere.

I have Joshua Graham's outfit, back at the Lucky 38. All I have with me in OWB is my Reinforced Leather Armor, the Stealth suit, and Christine's stealth suit. So far, anyway.

I love the toaster. Have you found the location yet which has an easter egg about him?

He's pretty awesome. No, sadly, I haven't found the easter egg yet.

That Cuckoo's Nest was crazy. I wasn't expecting there to be so many Lobotomites in there. The toaster altar was interesting. Hehe.

That's what I was talking about. ;)  At least, I assumed it was meant to be a shrine to him.

Oh! Gotcha. Yep, that was rather interesting. That whole place was weird - were the Lobotomites...eating...other Lobotomites? And why aren't they hostile to each other? Strange.

Crap, I forgot about Muggy. I haven't gotten his personality holodisk yet. I need to. He's so freaking cute!

Ok, so trying to find if anyone has figured out the code in that message above. The latest Morse codes have talked about a Vault 119 breach, with Vault 119 being an unfinished vault near Quabbin Reservoir military base.

If this is legit, wouldn't Bethesda have trademark issues with ASoIaF over the phrase "winter is coming"? Though I am reminded that a Bethesda dev posted "winter is coming" in the lore forum a while back. At the time, the end of Skyrim content hadn't been announced and we all took it to be about another Skyrim DLC.

edit- Okay, I found the interpretation that Reddit is going with on that stuff above.

Here's the phrase again:
"KVNGR REV ALPHA PPS VT PIZ UHMYLPVOQ CM XHWMZP NBJB SPI’F BYQS QT D’Y BYFGEOB FI VQDYL MAQ. -NGQHT 5120- Nuclear winter has come"

KVNGR is being taken to stand for keyed vignere cypher and REV ALPHA as "reverse alphabet " with PPS as the key phrase. The translation works out to:

"THE INSTITUTE IS SEALED. THEY WON’T HELP US I’M HEADING TO BLACK ROW. -TBNLS 5120-”

(Oh god, I hope those last digits don't mean a 2015 release.)

This probably calls back to the first message we got:  "My dear sister. I’m heading to the institute. God knows what happened to this place now. This old bastard will help us. He must help us. -0321"  Redditors believe 'the old bastard" could be Desmond Lockhart, the ghoul from Point Outlook DLC.  That's because a URL showed up on the survivor2299 domain that had the letters LCKHRT in it.  If he survived Point Outlook, Lockhart was supposed to be headed north to the Institute.

For those who haven't followed it, here are the Morse code messages referring to Vault 119. It makes for good reading even if this turns out to be fake.

"Calling all stations, this is Overseer 119 emergency enemy unknown, SOS. Vault 119 Quabbin 7667, repeat, SOS, Vault 119 Quabbin 7667 enemy unknown."

About an hour later:  "Calling all stations, this is Vault Overseer 119, anybody near Quabbin?  SOS Vault door breach, repeat, SOS Vault door breach, enemy unknown, level 1, 2, and 3 gone, survivors on (service lift? sealed? secure location?) level 4"

Five hours later:  "Calling all stations, this is Vault 119, SOS, Level 4 is under attack, Overseer is dead, repeat SOS, Level 4 is under attack, Overseer is dead. (We want Mark I? We won’t make it?)"

Later that night: "Calling [BR] (Black Row?) [OTST] (and other stations?) ground is safe [TL]. Level 4 breach. No survivors, 899 corpses. We are leaving Vault 119. Over, back to you."

@Addai - reading those Morse code messages made me think of something along the line of Aliens. I mean, they mention "enemy unknown" a couple of times, and being "under attack". Who or what would that be? I mean, they killed 899 people? This is blowing my mind. This almost sounds like a different game entirely.

And 2015 would just kill me, but I'd be happy for confirmation.

Heh, it would be funny if that turned out to be a tease for Fallout 4.

Supposing this all is legit, the nuclear winter stuff can't be current at game time. Nuclear winter is only thought to last about a decade at most, and it's supposed to be worldwide, not just confined to one area.  It could just be a reference to release date in the winter.

BTW I have to correct myself up above, Desmond Lockhart refers to going north but not to the Institute. He says he's going to look for another player in the "Great Game," a competition between geniuses of the post-war world. That could easily be somebody in the Institute. One of the embedded messages in survivor2299's site is: "THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S COMING. IT'S A KEY TO THE GREAT GAME."

A while back there was the memospore ARG run by Michael Kirkbride and a few other fans. We thought it might be semi-official. I wonder if Bethesda appointed someone to run an ARG for them in preparation for an announcement at the VGA's (sorry, VGX's...)

If Todd Howard comes out and all he talks about is The Evil Within....

Hmmm, I looked back at the original coded message and it ended with "0321." The sequence of those numbers did not change after the message was interpreted. It's still 0321.

The latest coded message ends with "5120".  Assuming the same interpretative technique, the number would remain 5120.  You see what you have to do to get 2015 -- and it's an interpretation model that was not previously used. Using that, the original 0321, becomes 2103. Pretty random if you ask me.

In short, not seeing 2015 in there at all. But I'm no cipher expert, and am easily influenced by my bias.Posted Image

Well, I finished Old World Blues. Best DLC yet, and I'm gearing up for The Lonesome Road. Can't wait! Deathclaws, here I come!

I've got some loose ends to tie up in the Big MT still - I need to find some seeds, to make the sultry gardener happy, but otherwise, I think I got most everything else. And I missed a couple of locations.

I finished up my run through OWB last night at level 43. As it turned out, I wasn't at level 42, as I thought; I was actually about halfway through 40. Anyway, I took Jury Rigging, and it made all the difference. I was able to repair my armor and weapons, and went out in to the crater with a renewed sense of purpose and ass-kickiness.

I think I might stick around Big MT for a little bit. I wasn't sure what I was going to do after I beat it, but I feel weird leaving loose ends. I had a few in Dead Money, too, but I really don't have any desire to go back there, probably ever again (I know I can't in this run, unless I load). I'm just not big on THAT scary in video games. It was a good DLC, and I loved Christine and Dog/God, but damn.

And might I just say how surprised I was at Mobius? He was really not what I was expecting, which surely was the point. I loved that curve ball.

So when I go back out there, can I expect the Robo-scorpions and Y-17 trauma harnesses to be gone? Posted Image

Coolio. :) I'm looking forward to reaching Big MT in my current game. Last time I ran guns. I want to see what unarmed is like in there. >.< I'll probably be hitting Dead Money soon. It's been over a year since my last foray into the Sierra Madre so I imagine some bits will be tricky. Hell, I didn't even remember about the speakers until Addai mentioned them. XD

I think Dead Money's frightful atmosphere contributed to what made it so memorable. I remember OWB for its comedy and emotional impact. Whereas Honest Hearts and The Lonesome Road left me wanting. The latter did have a sweet finale that I enjoyed, but the journey felt pretty ho hum to me. Maybe it was the near constant focus on combat with not much in the way of interactive dialogue until the end. ED-E rocked, though. :)

I don't know if they'll be gone. Probably not. I didn't finish upgrading the Sink until after completing OWB, and I recall there being fights along the way. Anything you didn't already kill will probably still be hanging around. >.<

Meeting Mobius and the Courier's brain were great moments. Really, all the characters in that DLC were awesome. My only complaint about OWB is there's way too much backtracking through the same areas to, presumably, pad out the length.

Anyways, congorats on getting through it. :)

^ I bet with the super-heated Saturnite Fist, you'll rock it. Especially if you do the stealthy play style.

Honest Hearts left me feeling the same way. Through the whole thing, I kept wondering if I should care more about Follow-Chalk and Waking Cloud. And hell, even Daniel and Joshua, but I just didn't.

I was perplexed at not really understanding how to use Follows-Chalk to map the area (I "got" it later). And the (lack of) interaction with Salt-Upon-Wounds, until the end sequence. I kind of wish they had handled that more like they did with OWB and Mobius. Or any number of ways, to have some kind of interaction before the endgame. As it was, he was just a faceless boogeyman. Upon meeting him, meh, still didn't care.

I loved meeting my Courier's brain, and asking why it was speaking in a male voice. The writing in OWB was hilarious.

I'll probably stick with Greased Lightning. The heated fist needs a perk to bring out its potential, and I'm considering holding out for Fist of Rawr instead. Guess I'll figure it out when I get there. I'm mildly tempted to wait until post level 40 to see OWB in all its brutal glory. >.> Mildly.

That essentially sums up how I felt about Honest Hearts. After a point I just wanted it over. I think the only time I had fun was in the last stretch while invading the White Legs camp with Joshua. It was a fun little gauntlet, easy thought it was. The rest was all kinds of meh. Although I did like that they accounted for having killed Caesar already. Those text stories about the post war survivor, and the natural vistas of the most unmarred area in Fallout evah, were really all it had going for it otherwise. :(

Best part of meeting my Courier's brain was flirting with it. XD The reaction is priceless. Not quite as silly as Dala and Light Switch #2, but still pretty funny. :)
