I doubt he regrets spending the money. Sometimes it's not about what else you can get with cash. It's about the experience dropping that cash provides. Getting his 15 minutes of infamy and a few laughs along the way is likely worth it to him. He will be able to carry most of these events as fond memories for the rest of his life.

I guess you could say the game was rigged from the start.

I don't know about you but wasting almost a thousand dollars in some moronic prank is pretty stupid. I don't know what kind of insane person does that just for a few laughs. Anyone with common sense would regret it afterwards. He's paying one way or another, either because he wasted all that money and realized hes an idiot or because he must not have a lot to do in his life.

I'm the kind of person that values experiences over material possessions. You suggested he could have bought a new graphics card. In my eyes that is nothing special. If I had 1k to burn I rather spend it on a night out or some spontaneous last minute act of frivolity. I'm not wealthy however, so 1k is a big deal to me. It clearly isn't for DCHoaxer.

I think life should be about living. If living for this guy is defined by pranking people, then coolio. It's not my preference, but it's still more creative and inspiring than buying a new TV or whatever.

I was upset to find out the whole thing was a hoax, but after reading his posts about it...I'm kind of intrigued. If he wouldn't have been "drunk" and blew the whole thing with a stupid rick roll, it could have really turned into something cool.

I believe he said the point was that he wanted to drum up interest in a DLC that he had written, or something to that effect. To be honest, I'd probably check it out. The guy is no idiot (but seems to have poor control over his liquor).

It was a ballsy move.

Yeah sure, I guess everyone would waste their money differently. Nonetheless, I think throwing money on a night out or drinking booze, is much better than throwing money at some prank,  not that I think doing that would even cost $990. I only said a graphics card because that's what first came to mind. But really putting money in anything is probably better than what he did. Sure, $20-40, is fine but $990, that's just impracitcal.

Huh, "leaked" (This hoax has left me wary) script suggests the player actually starts the game before the nukes fall and lives to the present through ye olde cryogenic pod.

That would be an interesting change of pace as far as previous go go, and sort of fits if the Institute is part of the setting.  I like the idea.

Its a bit suspiciously similar to the Survivor2299 premise though, with... auspicious timing.

I was suspecting something like that too with the info given by the supposed tease, at first. Maybe even with an option to start off as a ghoul off the bat (matter of choice; cryo pod not protecting the poor PC-sod all the way through, with some reference to the PC's (non-)ghoul-ness in the game from the get-go...).

Still, wariness is in order regarding these follow-ups.

Well that would definitely have to be a choice.  Radiation immunity would be nice, but I don't think everyone wants to go around looking like a corpse.

Another thing struck me as odd.  The "script" claims the player character does the intro narration... so we're playing as Ron Perlman :o

Seriously though, a Fallout game intro not voiced by Ron Perlman would be just... wrong somehow

The premise is interesting, and a little surprising. I'm not thrilled about Boston, but I'm curious, and cautiously optimistic.

Oh, who am I kidding? I'm giddy.

I wonder what that hoax guy thinks of all this. His grand scheme/idea suddenly coming true?

^ I don't blame you. I shouldn't believe it, but...dammit, Fallout 4. This will get me every time, until it happens.

His hoax was based on the reddit rumors from last year, so they weren't really his schemes.

I certainly want no spoilers for FO4, but I am curious how they intend to refresh this theme. In FO3 we had desolate wasteland; in FO:NV we had a fairly thriving community. It seems like FO4 would have to be one of the other and thus, they'll be hard-pressed not to seem like just a cut n paste.

Well looking on the Fallout timeline, we're getting close to the predicted date where the wasteland is habitable and safe from radiation. Civilization is buildng back up as well.

You all do realize people spend WAY more than $1000 to get this same level of attention, right? You all will forever remember that guy who fooled the planet about the FO4 release hoax. We've spent dozens of pages talking about the joke this guy pulled. Immortality (granted, INFAMOUS immortality) for a grand? That's a STEAL.

Not to mention I'm sure the guy has gotten job offers for web design out the wazoo now for something he did as a joke. That's not an idiot. That's a genius. You spend more than that on a weekend in Vegas. This guy now has Legendary troll status across the internet for cheaper. I get the level of butthurt but the guy did a great job.
