"Just because" its a M rated title does "not" mean they "have" to put in nudy scences.

Most depictions in media are rated M/R for their sexual content, and not for thier violent content. I think we can all agree that none of the Dragon Age games were violent enough to warrant an M, while the "sexual" content would probably be akin to some of the scenes on prime time television which is usually rated TV-14 (Pg-13 for movies etc). It is somewhat justifiable for people to demand that if the game is rated M it should at least have content that would be suitable for M rated games.

They said they were gonna do Mass Effect 1 style scenes, showing nakedness but hiding the actual naughty bits with camera angles and lighting and such.

I can't really think of a way to improve on that, so I'm quite pleased.

That's easy - don't bother hiding the "naughty bits" at all and do it right, like TW2 did.  Seriously the devs look like kids who want to show sex but are too embarassed thus the scenes look stupid and awkward. If that's the case then do like the op says and skip the sex scenes altogether, better spend the resources on something else which they can be mature about.

Why is gratuitous nudity more mature?

Fade to black is so cheesy man. No, I'd prefer ME style scenes.

Not for any particular reason other than they're cool and hot. Jesus, why does everything need to be so deep, thoughtful and 'mature' with you guys?

Can't we admit that the scenes add a certain flavour to the game that's missing otherwise?

Edit: It would be hilarious if your character was awful in bed depending on his charisma stat xD

that would be great, but I have almost zero belief that bioware has the ability or desire to pull it off since me1.

I think one cue they should take from rockstar is their "go f- yourself" mentality has actually led to rockstars popularity not taken away from it.  yet the whole "sexbox" debacle on faux news scared the crap out of them and left us with "kiddie" scenes that are unintentionally humorous.

if you want to go for humor, have crazy moaning and bed rocking and ridiculous comments with a fade to black like in fable, or have the lead up copy saints row 4 (actually I will feel this games scenes are a failure if it doesnt' have something akin to the kinzie Kensington "sex" scene).

if you want to go for a quality narrative like you see in a movie (in ahighly cinematic game that's what they should be going for and seem to strive for anyway), then do it like a movie. movies use tons of tricks to show nudity without showing them and bioware has done it before.

IMO- bioware needs to stop treading water here.

You haven't seen most of the threads like this then.  It often degrades to the pro nudity crowd calling the ones that don't care/want it in game prudes and such, despite many of them saying otherwise or they say "violences and stuff is ok, but nudity isn't?  Da hell is wrong with you?"

Hm.

Right on the money.

Surprised Fox News hasn't been mentioned more often (despite the fact that it was probably one of the best way to promote a game ever).

*Insert comment about how American decency and values are dead, and as well calling the game a porn simulator blowing it out of proportion*

*Bioware sitting back enjoying the free promotion*

If you don't think beheadings, over the top blood splatter, chopped limbs, torture chambers,  branka/hespith, Hawke's mom don't warrant an M rating, take it up with ESRB. Bioware is under no obligation to add nudity simply because ESRB gave their game an M rating.

Don't care about the sex scenes.

I guess I'm part of the minority.

I read an article last month stating that the romance/sex scenes will be done "in a mature and tasteful manner".

I do not care about them either, but that is because I feel that if a romance can be emotional without it, it is not needed.

I'd rather have non-explicit sex scenes, like, I really don't need the game showing me in-out intercourse. DA2 ones were ok, they had dialogue and characterization, and faded to black leaving it obvious that the characters were going to have sex.

That said, I find things like post-coital people wearing lingerie really ridiculous (hell, in DAO they wore lingerie during sex! Very realistic. ) If you are going to do that, just skip it altogether. If not, show me a breast, a buttock or wathever, it's okay, really, everyone has one of those.

Anyway, the people which "have issues" with nudity in a game that contains mass murdering, beheadings, blood explosions and all kinds of violent killings, are demonstrating a very twisted and hypocritical sense of morality and I don't think the game should cater to them.

I apologize for my poor English.

Indeed.

I, personally, don't mind their inclusion, but I would do just fine without them as well.

It's not justifiable at all. Bioware doesn't choose the ratings of its games, no game developer does. Ratings are assigned by various review boards across different countries, and Bioware doesn't know if Dragon Age is going to be PG, M or even R in any given country, because they all have different standards.

Don't care fade to black, show heavy petting or a full sex scene. But please don't treat us like children.

When people are post coital, the first thing they don't do is rush to put their underwear on. At least, put them in a bed with the covers over them.

It's super mature to have women fully exposed while Geralt's icky penis stays covered up at all times.

Here's why Bioware games will never have full nudity - you can blame it all on consoles.

Consoles now make up what, 2/3rds of the market? And where do people normally play on consoles? In their living rooms - the most public place in a home.

People don't want nudity in their games because they would be caught playing it, in a public place, where any member of the household might walk in at any moment and catch them. Therefore console players, in the main, oppose nudity so they will not be accused of being pervs by wives, children, siblings, parents, etc.

Bioware understands this dynamic and therefore, will not include nudity so as to not offend 2/3rds of their potential market.

So there you have it - the issue is not about maturity, tastefulness, or appropriateness - it is all about playing a game in a public place.

Clearly, this is all the console players' fault.

Tongue firmly in cheek....

I'm just gonna go ahead and say it:

We all want (well at least I want) good sex scenes. They're hot and appropriate for the romance. I don't care if it "adds to the complexity of the bla bla bla" or whatever fancy word you can conjure up. Frankly, that's their only purpose - to spice up the romance scene. Which is why the title of this thread is like that.

I'm pretty sure there's only 2 sides in this argument.

Except it doesn't seem that way because people have to pretty up their speeches with "big words" and "maturity". Yes, yes, I know we're all intellectuals here sitting down browsing through bsn sipping tea like the good ol' fancy mathematicians with a smug sense of superiority, but come on, not every topic needs a "deep" reason behind it.

I don't think there needs to be any full frontal nudity (leave that to the modding community), but implied nudity done with tasteful camera angles should be a must.

That's true. For example, I often devour the head of my mate. Or cook him some steak.

I have a coin for that.

I know. Fade to Black then standing in the room with full armor on. Image IPB No way. Personally, I want more LI interaction, more kissing, more spending time with them, hugging, talks about the relationship, decent drama and romance, and more than one well done sex scene. I don't think it's too much to ask for the next gen of gaming. IMO, if I have to pay for a Romance DLC so they can give it the time and attention needed. I will.

I don't think anyone is objecting to nudity on any moral or decency grounds. We're objecting to the notion that nudity is necessary to the game's quality or "maturity."
