So all I can do now is miss out on that entire quest and just go on my way to peak 15?

You might be able to do it if you first talk to Lorik about it before you turn in Opold to Analeis.

I was pretty certain you couldn't do Lorik's quest if you already have the pass.

Yes, I've been hunting around for answers and that seems to roughly fit what I've discovered - if you talk to Lorik first you get the best of both worlds. Oh well.

Not being able to meet with Gianna
on Illium kinda stinks. But the whole Parsini bit pretty much defies
logic and consistency. When you first meet her she tells you there is no
law on Noveria, just whatever rules the corporations set. Then when she
asks you to help get Quin to cooperate, she tells you "if you have any
respect for the law you'll help me." Law? Gianna, you just said there is
no law on Noveria. When she hauls Analeus away she tells him he has the
right to remain silent. Um, where did he get that right from? Again,
there are no laws on Noveria. When she meets you on Illium she tells you
Analeus is rotting in white-collar prison. Which prison? Why? He didn't
break any laws, BECAUSE THERE ARE NO LAWS ON NOVERIA, GIANNA! Who's
running this prison? Who sentenced him? For what crime? Did he have a
lawyer? Does he have any rights? Can he appeal? Gianna, get it through
your thick skull that, as you told me when we first met, THERE ARE NO
LAWS ON NOVERIA!
Good points. Noveria seems somewhat rushed compared to the rest of the fine missions of ME1 then. I also found it quite jarring when my character opted to turn the Hanar merchant in for smuggling, and the Hanar then acuses us of having no moral high ground since we participated in the crime...uh, no I didn't. How did I? I stopped the crime from happening. I confiscated the merchandise (some stupid ammo type) which was the direct result of choosing a paragon dialogue option with Analeis saying it was better off in my hands as it was dangerous. Then, when I talked to the Krogan who had anticipated the delivery of the ammo, I chose the option, "Sorry," and my character said something like, "Too bad, it was a means to an end," as if I'd turned in the merchandise for my own personal gain (to get a pass), which I had NOT done. I didn't even know Analeis was going to give me a pass for turning it in. I was just trying to do the lawful thing.
Also the journal update to speak to Lorik didn't go away, even though I can only question him about Benezia and then say goodbye. If I don't need to talk to him anymore, why is it still listed as an active quest?

This isn't exactly the only odd thing in the game. There is the whole Banes mystery that was taken out, but the dialogue is still partly intact, for example.
There are a whole lot of quests that require you to talk to someone after you finish them and you can potentially end up not finishing them if you do some plot points before doing that, like some side quests on Feros.
They did allow a lot of ways to proceed through the game in general, so I am not too shocked that some of the branches weren't fully tested.
