There was a DAI survey ages ago which had this brief plot summary.

[*]"The great nation of Orlais, the most powerful empire in Dragon Age,
tears itself apart in civil war. The stout men and women of Ferelden
struggle to recover and reclaim their nation from the horde of vile
Darkspawn that lay waste to its lands a decade ago. The Templar order
has broken away, claiming the church has become too lax in policing the
dangerous powers of the mages. The Mage circleshave rebelled, believing
the Templars have become too strict, too zealous in their duties, and
too quick to slaughter those who step out of line.[*]"The world of Dragon Age is one on the brink of collapse, and when a
desperate gathering in the name of peace becomes the epicentre of a
magical blast that decimates the Chantry's leadership, it becomes clear
that someone or something is manipulating events to drive the world into
chaos.[*]"From the ashes of that explosion, something new rises: The
Inquisition. As the Inquisitor, it falls to you to build up your power
and martial your forces, uncover secrets and build connections across
the world. You must explore forgotten spaces, uncover ancient mysteries
and uproot those who would destroy the fabric of the world."[/list]
That said, who knows if any of these details have changed since then...

While I'm sure it's all subject to change, I'm pretty sure I've heard talk of this peace summit someplace else... but I just can't remember where...

Well no matter what race or class you are, you'll be a prisoner in rags being transported with a bunch of mage rebels (who foolishly thought up a uniform for their group and are all wearing it) to the closest town for execution. This happens to be the town where the peace conference is held. Bad timing having an execution on the same day as a peace conference, but the mage leader DID use a power like magic to murder his king and (attempt to) usurp his throne! A priest tries to bless you in the name of Andraste as she commends your souls to the fade, but the mage rebels tell her off and the rad chopping begins. Just when you think all is lost and it's your head on the block, the veil tears and demons appear and start killing everyone. You slink away through an underground tunnel and everyone assumes you must have been a badass for surviving and you are named inquisitor.

Hahaha

It still seems like a decent idea for a prologue.

I'm guessing if you choose a human warrior/rogue, your part of some Ferelden nobility. Elf, maybe representing the Dalish or city elves.

I would like to hear everyone's opinions on what the inquisitor was doing at the conference pre-veil tear, and their motivations. I'd find it appealing if you were actually working for the big bad and helped set off the magic bomb/veil tear. Then either memory loss occurs(and you unknowingly seek vengeance upon your former employer), or you seek revenge for being used as a disposable pawn. What other scenarios would you like to see?

Isn't that basically the plot of kotor?

I think the PC will probably start as some unimportant mercenary or guard and then be the "sole survivor" and no one knows why.

Am I alone in thinking the Inquisitor might be a Grey Warden?

It's one of the only transnational organizations that is both apolitical and irreligious, as well as being comprised of members from every race (apparently some Tal-Vashoth have taken the Joining ritual in recent years).

Assuming this peace conference is part of the prologue, the Grey Wardens would likely be there to act as a security force.

The supposed Grey Warden companion might be our mentor.

Just speculating.

Maybe the presence of our Inquisitor could be linked to the most loved side quests of D.A.II.

You have found a pair of slippers and your invisible friend has written on your diary those are the White Divine's favorite; knowing well you won't have peace until the priestess is reunited with her belongings you set on your quest, only to remain standing like an idiot, shoes in hands, in front of the building where the peace conference is held. Suddenly the palace explodes and a concussed you is the only survivor.
The people who find your body take the fact you are holding the White divine's slippers as a sign from the Maker; thus you are made inquisitor.
