Tali doesn't come across as the I secretly want my best friends bf type. She had Shep's back over the Dr. Michel thing. It would be a bit treacherous of her to say something like "watch yourself Shepard" over Dr. Michel when she has the same thing in her mind.

Honestly I just think this was a “Team Dextro “ joke. A lot of people also wanted tali as a femshep LI too. After her flustered response to linking suits people thought she had a crush on femshep.  So if anything tali is’t being a bad friend here, she just has a bit of a crush on both of them, not just garrus. She got drunk and she’s just wondering outloud what that would be like. During this time garrus is worrying over shep’s safety during the party, not having a good time like the others. While they’re chatting and having fun he’s obsessively setting up traps for the “the love of his life”. you telling me he would stop to hit on tali while he was doing this? Come on now.

I always took that as a sign of very close friendship since her mother had to do so with Admiral Raan during her birth, but yeah I really like Tali's character (i'm striaght but wouldn't mind the s/s option with her either:?) . I think!

Tali and Garrus getting together was a very easy thing to predict, I saw it coming a mile away. The two of them fit together anyway.

Like I said little hints here and there and I get the distinct impression as well (no matter how fluffy Garrus/femshep's romance is) that Garrus and Tali are supposed to be together. Clues for me were:
1. First time we see Tali in ME1 and a Turian is feeling her up

2. Garrus teases her a lot

3. Mentions of Fleet and Flotilla a Turian/Quarian love story

4. Come ME2 and the Turian and Quarian at Eternity are sexually chatting each other up and mention of Fleet and Flotilla again...note the negative dialogue about her insensitive human date

5. In ME2 a romanced Tali is genuinely attracted to male shep (under the helmet she resembles a human so that is entirely acceptable), BUT Garrus does not indicate an attraction to Shepard as she shares no traits with his species (wonder what he is gonna do when he sees Tali without her mask)

6. Garrus has a song from Fleet and Flotilla in LOTSB dossier (yeah he also has one from a romantic Asari movie, but Turians are attracted to Asari as well...head fringes that is and not their human-like bodies)

7. Both are dextros and can eat each others foods as Tali indicates in ME3...domestic bliss when you don't have to have segregate cupboards and refrigerators

8. Tali teases Garrus and vice versa in ME3 a lot (the playfulness of it came off to me as flirtatious rather than as sibling rivalry even when he is romanced)

9. Citadel dlc drove it home that Tali wants Garrus even if her good friend Shep is with him
I liked the Garrus romance but I get a negative vibe from it if I know Tali is ALWAYS longing for him (i'd rather her be with him than selfishly keep them apart). Given the overall negatives for straight femshep's romances and I am not suprised this one has issues as well. Note: I do think Tali's romance with maleshep is the only one that can obliterate her crush on Garrus, again because she may share the dextro amino acids and body shape with Garrus, but her facial features are human so the physical plus emotional attraction for maleshep is there. It is harder to work around with femshep and Garrus).
When it comes to Garrus he is oblivious to most females wanting him, but I think if he had a choice of femshep or Tali in ME2 he'd go for Tali everytime and keep Shep as a friend. :(

I think your looking way too deeply into this and I don't think Tali is "always longing" for a romanced Garrus. If Garrus is romanced the dialogue between the two never excedes a conversation between best friends. Garrus teases Liara just as much as Tali.

Though to be honest both the FemShep and Tali romances seem more like friends with benefits than a long-term relationship(FemShep especially in ME2).

True, I am a little hypersensitive given my last two romance playthroughs (Thane and Jacob).

Sorry about your previous playthroughs, femshep wasn't treated well in the romance department this is true. But perhaps I can help with your current view of the Garrus romance?

*long-winded post inbound*

Before ME3 came out his romance caught a lot of flack . Many assuming it was just a fling, that it wouldn't be as serious as the other romances etc. But really it was the kind of romance that required the viewer to read between the lines. Garrus admits that he's never considered women outside his species true, but that doesn't mean he is "repulsed" by femshep. Just that he never considered non-turian women before. It's because shep is his best friend , is the person he trusts the most and who he respects the most in the whole galaxy that has turned him into a bundle of nerves.

It's true that it starts out as two friends blowing off steam but really it ends up being a guise for both of them to get closer without either assuming the other wants something more.  It's one of those "JUST TELL EACHOTHER HOW YOU FEEL ALREADY!"  annoying starts to a romance. Only during the last ME2 romance scene do you see them both let down their guard at last, no more jokes, no more innuendos, just sincerity. It's brief but it's brilliant. It's not a "Hey I just met you and I love you!" romance, it's unique because it's a rare Bioware relationship that continuously grows across three games. From crew members to friends , from friends to best friends, from BF's to lovers, and finally from lovers to soul mates.

On it's own, the ME2 romance leaves the viewer guessing how serious they are but when the ME3 romance kicks off there's no denying that these two crazy kids love eachother. "There's no Shepard without Vakarian" and this is true even if they aren't romantic. He says thinking of her during the 6 months apart was what kept him going, that the worst  thing about the war was the thought he'd never see her again.  He talks about kids with her, a future, that he needs her, that he loves her. So really , so what if a doctor gives him chocolates or if a drunk crew mate wonders what a threesome would be like? Other npc's fancying him shouldn't taint the romance. If Gar can put up with Vega ,random asari hitting on her, Zaeed drunkenly admitting he always found femshep beautiful (lol) then femshep can brush off other women eyeing up her fella.

As for the tango scene, watch it again. Garrus doesn't even glance at the female turian when he walks in. After femshep gives the female turian a look, Garrus turns to see who shepard was smirking at. After confirming shep wants him to pretend they just met, he teases her by commenting on the view. He was just being a little s*it because she was acting jealous , he wouldn't have done so otherwise or would have been so obvious about it. Garrus and shepard always make fun of each other, that's their relationship, so I'm not surprised he wound her up this way. Anyway, he immediately assures her that he prefers the view in front of him and shep can get pay back later with Vega. The point is neither want something closer to home even if they both tease eachother about it during the scene.

Now as for the Tali/Garrus thing. It's really left up to the viewer as to how serious they'll be.  It doesn't happen until the very last moment and it was just meant to be a cute easter egg for the non-Tali/Garrusmancers so I wouldn't worry too much over it. It's no more "canon" than Ash being with Vega , or Fenris being with Isabella. These pairings aren't "meant to be" since no romance choice is "canon" in a Bioware game, they're just light hearted easter eggs that can happen.  IMO I preferred Tali with Kal, and Garrus with a female turian if neither were romanced since I think of them as siblings but that's just me.

This is how I view the Tali/Garrus pairing ,lagoona, if it helps. During ME1 AND ME2 I wouldn't call them "good friends" only in ME3 does this happen and only then do they hook up. So what does that tell you? Garrus values trust and friendship above all else when it comes to romance. Not looks , not being dextro .And what woman does he trust the most in the  whole galaxy? Think about it ;). So if he's not with shepard by 3, it makes sense Tali would be the other option. Now Tali, she falls in love with manshep in 1 and 2 regardless. By 3 she accepts that if he isn't into her by now it's time to look elsewhere and Garrus has been there just as long as shepard. IMO it feels like the second banana pairing but others feel differently. Garrus and Tali wouldn't have hooked up with eachother in 2 because their relationship wasn't that great and there's more to a relationship than eating the same food LOL. Tali and Garrus's relationship with shepard will always be stronger than their relationship with each other, both romantically and platonically.

Hope this helps :).

I suppose a player can head canon anything, but I never got anything more than friends with benefits vibes from Garrus and Tali. I think they were just blowing off steam, much like Ashley and Vega in the Citadel DLC.

If they're stranded or traveling for a long period in space (after firing the crucible), I can see all of these relationships becoming more, I guess. Same goes with Liara and Javik. lol. They might have to do that anyways, depending how far away they are from any civilizations or working relays.

Liara and Javik never were thing though, beyond fanfiction. Personally I'm not a big fan of shipping total opposites, though obviously it appeals to others. Take Jack and Miranda for instance.

If Bioware had an unromanced Liara shack up with one of the other Normandy crewmates, I think Kaidan would have made the most sense. They both have similar world (galaxy?) views and are among the most paragon of the squad, and they appear to have bonded over both being biotics. Also in ME1 Kaidan admits to finding Liara attractive. That's half the battle I suppose. Image IPB

I only say Javik because Liara is that hopeless. She'll never get over her obsession with Shepard. But if anything will work, it'll be a 50,000 year old Prothean.

People exaggerate the whole obsession thing, personally. Its kind of like calling Ashley a racist or a bible thumper.

Shepard can dump Liara and she moves on without much of an issue. In fact she handles it better than most real world people would, and also doesn't make much of a fuss about any of the ME2 LIs if Shepard romances someone else in the second game. A line or two of snark in LotSB at most. That's not how a stalker behaves. A stalker would have been throwing Shepard's clothes out of the airlock or something equally ridiculous.

It's actually better if you do romance her and then move on (or stay with her). That's how I see the story, personally. What sucks and annoys people is when you did none of this. The writers assume a level of closeness that never existed for a lot of people.

Agreed.

Plus, doesn't Garrus go on a date with the Turian embassy worker regardless of wether he's interested in Tali?

Eh, Liara does kind of spy on everyone with her SB resources, and she most certainly kept Shepard's armor regardless.

Lets be honest though, the terminal is there for Shepard/the Player (mostly the player, not in game reasons). That said, it is funny if you think about it. She doesn't even know half of those people. It's like having a friend who stalks your facebook page and periodically checks your friends' status updates... just because they know you.

As for the armor, I kind of wonder if they thought only Liaramancers would buy LotSB at first, instead of general fans. So they put in that kind of fan-service to pull on their heart strings. Except, a lot of people want to play DLC for their own reasons, so it just ends up coming off strangely if you don't romance her.
