My goal is to get Shale the Golem on my team, but I just can't get pass that gosh darn puzzle.  100 sovereigns to anyone who can walk me through it in plain old grandma can't reed, can't rite english.

Also note that the puzzle isn't mandatory. It's just the only way to get certain endings, including the best ending. You get Shale regardless.

Hmmmm... the best ending. That definitely implies that the puzzle "is" mandatory, but I sure do hope that you are right because I am not much of a puzzle person. I am more of a puzzled person.

I solve this puzzle differently every time I play, so it'd be hard to walk someone through it. It's not that hard. It's the same principle as the picture puzzle gadget on windows, if you need some practice.

I always find it easier to start at the end and work backwards. Always works for me.
