I was wondering if anybody here had tried the GIMP Normalmap Plug-in for generating normal map files for NWN2, and what sort of results they had? I've just started looking at it, so any tips you might have would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, but that could be very handy for my exterior textures in interior tiles, as the textures didn't include normal or tintmaps so I made generic ones for them.

I have not tried that one, since I use Photoshop. I use the nVidia normal map plugin for Photoshop, but there are many alternatives.

I use it to generate my normal maps, because the photoshop plugin isn't working on my pc.
It works well, even if I don't fully understand whats' the difference between "3x3", "9x9", "sobel", "prewitt"...^_^

I can't say I know the difference between all of the options, but I judge by how it looks after I use it, and try a few alternatives with Ctrl-Z. :)

I gave it a try using an object imported from NWN:

It seemed to work out pretty nicely. The texture on the bowl isn't great, but I think that's due to the original .tga file being rather low res, rather than a problem with the plug-in.

I'm not very experienced and don't have a comparison to PS, but it did the job for me.
Here is a tutorial:

Thanks. I've been using it and the results have been pretty decent. The one problem is for cases where the texture has a light or dark region that I don't want to see represented in the normal map (such as white paint or a dirt stain). In those cases I have to do some manual editing.
