Hoi guys and galls, I desperately need help on two topics, for Fanfic purposes.

1. Liara, the sweet archeologist. Shep dies. WHY is she all of a sudden an info broker on Illium? What happened?  Was this in the comic books?  Please elaborate. Links very welcome.

2. Asari bondmates bracelets. Were these mentioned in-game? If so Where?  If not, then where? Please elaborate. Links very welcome.

Thanx in advance!!

All threads are better with pics!

Yes. She explains if you talk to her.

According to LotSB files, a "Bond ceremony bracelet" was among Samara's possessions.

1. Not really. She sort of touches on why she became an information broker but doesn't really go in depth. Its a brief conversation and it doesn't give a lot of detail on her motives. The how she went about putting together the nuts and bolts of a private spy ring isn't explained at all. Basically you're free to head canon whatever you like there.

I haven't read much fanfic, but of the few I have read I was most impressed by Memoirs - The Illium Years. The author deviates from the game canon in a few areas, but overall I think he probably does a much better job than Bioware of detailing how Liara put together an information brokerage.

I believe Liara's story is explained in the comic Mass Effect: Redemption.

She did it because she was personally attached. They made it even more poignant for those who romanced her (even if they don't outright canonize the romance). In game, her words are basically, "I couldn't let you go". She doesn't even talk about the Reapers. It's about her grief, apparently. I kind of see her the same way as the woman "Julia" in that ME1 sidequest, who went crazy and kept her braindead spouse on life support. Such a strange sidequest that I wonder if it was a purposeful foreshadowing. If not, it still works that way.

The comic focuses on the retrieval of Shepard's corpse. IIRC Liara isn't yet an information broker in the comic. Presumably that occurs sometime after Redemption.

She only became an information broker to rescue Feron. At the end of the comic Miranda says that cerberus won't be going after him and Liara tells her "she has got another friend to help now."

1. Liara became an info broker to save Feron from the shadow broker, these events were detailed in Mass Effect Redemption, the how has never been explained so you have free range

2. apart from the Samara thing, not that I'm aware so you have pretty much free range with that
