Really? I thought all Nordic countries had game releases on Thursdays? Is it generally Fridays for you? We Swedes get games on Thursdays, thought it was the same for you guys. That's too bad.

Actually the French release date is the 25th. They finally beat another country at something.

Germany just got owned by France. That's like a chiseled, hunky lifeguard getting KO'd by a three year old girl with pigtails.

What the hell? Thats even earlier then the US release, maybe a wrong date?

Okay... Back on topic and going to the OP's original question, I actually would like to know why the release date is different for Europe vs. North America. I assume there is a perfectly rational explanation for it, but that's an assumption. I'm not too patient with the whining (it works both ways, and games released by Euro developers are frequently delayed here in the US, if they're ever released at all), but out of sheer curiosity I would like to know.

Why?

Because that's proper protocol.

EA:s French web site says 28th so I guess that's the correct date for France.

Well here in the US its still the 26th for me.....

Rest assured, we'll all play ME2 soon... :)

Tho a global date would be nice.

I think it has something to do with fixed release dates in the countrys themself.

For example here in Germany all movies come out on a Thursday. Exactly why that is? Good question, lol

No it has nothing to do with shipping. Most developers press the games localy (in the Europe branch Asia branch etc.)

Hrm.  That could be.  Lots of folks wonder why games here in the US are pretty much always released on Tuesdays.  They just... are.

A Wikipedia article on game localization seems to suggest is has something to do with customizing the game content for the region, but except maybe with respect to printing manuals in five or so different languages, that doesn't make much sense to me.  If you're really doing it differently, then that would be a release date difference of months or more, not just a few days.  Printing manuals could explain a couple of days for a few titles, but not all.

So, a "custom" of a particular day of the week to release new titles makes sense, if it's true.  Not living in Europe, I would have no clue.  But, you're right insofar as US custom -- games are 99% of the time released on Tuesdays.

Hey Ausente yeah part of my problem is that my semester exams finish on the 23rd and pick back up again on the 3rd of February so making us wait until the 29th basically only lets me play for a weekend before having to get back to studying. Apart from this and your specific example I just think it sucks how they make us wait.

Ok now i remember something i read somewhere, i think some analyst in Germany came to the conclusion that bringing a movie at a Thursday would increase ticket sales because of word of mouth.

People go to movie at a Thursday > tell a friend how good he is but since he needs to work and Thursday is close to the weekend, the chance is higher for said person to go into the movie faster.

Maybe this was applied in some form into the game industry but that can't be because there are allot of games that don't come out Thursday.

The other explanation would be, tease the Europeans :D

Yes, afaik this "custom" is the reason. IT's just the way it is, even though it may sound stupid. I guess different countries have different ideas of which day of the week that is best suited for release.

Actually, it's due in Denmark next thursday, as well :) Check some of the Danish affiliates of Gamestop, etc. (Blockbuster's only 449 for the 360-version, by the way :bandit:)

Which is just so damn inconvenient... you have 3 more days until the weekend, people work, i have school... ive gotta go home to pick up the game (my college is in newark (not a great area) and im not leaving campus to find a shady game store at midnight) and drive back... and ive got class the next morning...

You'd think a friday release day would be better for everyone.

its cuz u live in Europe and they dont standardize the release of all new game titles to the Tuesday. I think all video games need a system much like the music industry, where technically everyone would receive there junk on the same day at the same time according to their specific timezones, but one country might get it a day or so earlier according to your timezone.

but really not much you can do about it.

In South Africa games are also generally released on a Friday. We tend to use the European release dates. Though it sucks that I have to wait 3 more days, I'm actually happy 'cause if I get it during the week, I won't be going to my classes. Best to get it the weekend when I can play 24/7
:P

It's to do with the markets of each country, and when they typically release new stock. It seems to be arbitrary, or based upon old customs/habit. All I know is, it sucks.

Yes it's to do with 'industry' release days in the respective countries, here in the UK games are released on a Friday, DVDs on a Monday!, had this dicussion with a retailer over the 'Oblivion' release, which was also 'globally' released on a Tuesday!

As for shipping here the main online suppliers don't ship until the day of release, so here in the North of Scotland I won't see my pre-order copy of ME2 until the following Monday or more likely Tuesday (02/02/2010) .

Still I'm getting a pre-order copy to get the armour codes rather than collecting in a store without though!

lol i cant believe i laughed at that considering how much im suffering cuz of this Image IPB

seriously, anybody know?

also, does anyone know WHY they have different release dates like this? One would think that releasing it after its been released in the states would motivate more people to look for those infamous day one pirate downloads, especially considering how many people are anxious for this game....

You could just wait like the rest of us in europe.

Often if you pre-order from places like GAME, the game arrives a day early.
