Hmm, I wasn't around for that. Tell me about it, sounds amusing. Or would that be opening pandoras box?

Bunch of people running around saying you aren't a real fan if you don't like X. That lasted a few months.

This is why I don't frequent the ME3 boards anymore.KaiserShep wrote...

I never said that they meant to remain small, simply that this was the situation at the time. As they became larger, changes occured and for the most part I didn't mind them until their last two outings, which is when I felt a disturbance in the force.AlanC9 wrote...

Certainly this should be a given, but that's speaking from the perspective of the 'old-timers', by which I mean people whom BioWare attracted through games like Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Knights, KotOR, Jade Empire and Mass Effect.
These were games aimed at a niche market, created by a smaller group people who shared the passions of their audience towards a particular kind of experience.
Let's not overstate this. Bio always wanted to be a big developer rather than a niche outfit, and they've never been all that loyal to whatever the self-proclaimed true RPG fans think are the defining features of the RPG genre. Every couple of years Bio commits some sort of atrocity against the RPG fans, starting when BG2 abolished overland map exploration.
I'm not saying they shouldn't change, just that certain fans, like perhaps me, will at some point no longer get what they expect. This is how things go.
When was it that Bio was "small," exactly? And small relative to what? And what exactly has changed about the last two outings that wasn't true for, say, ME2 or Jade Empire or NWN?

Sure, but if I didn't like fan-rage shenanigans, would I hang out here?

Well, if you actually want them to do that, knock yourself out. I figured most people wanted to experience the games as they were originally designed. With choices. Else they wouldn't play them that way. Excuse me for speaking up for you.

The BG days were definitely "small". It's kind of amazing how they started, yet what kind of ambitions they had. Wasn't Drew a furniture mover at the time too or something? Someone on the team was also a trashman.

Sadly, I agree. Oh well, all the Mass Effect boards I visit have one aspect I don't "care for". BSN= depressingly cynical but is active and does have the ocasional thread that doesn't become another "b-tch about the ending" topic. GameFAQs= talks about nothing but the one thing I rarely play, which is the MP (it doesn't bother me, I just rarely can join conversations since I am not a MP expert). IGN= basically dead, but is not depressingly negative.
Maybe things will change once ME3 is no longer the newest ME

They have two studios now and are a division of a much larger company, surely this is another level compared to anything that came before.
I couldn't point the finger towards what exactly has changed, I just know that I used to eat up everything they put out up until a certain point, so it's something but I can't be more specific.
Perhaps I have changed more than they have.

I have no interest in a prequel or any alternate universe nonsense either.
I detest the idea of a prequel as much as you do, but why not an alternate universe?
It would be the same but new, the sense of mystery and wonder would be back and you wouldn't have to worry about anything that happened before.

Also, a strange thought came to mind recently - Bethesda, the god of the nerds, developer of the great but bug-possesed Fallout 3, responded to the same situation that BW found itself in, that is, they made an ending that disapointed a large number of fans. Instead of fixing their mistake for free, like Bioware did, they charged 10 dollars for Broken Steel and the nerds STILL adored them, whereas the "fans'' of Mass Effect still rip into the franchise and it's developer every chance they get.
If that's not butthurt then I don't know what is.

So far I'm just a little uneasy with the fact that it's like everyone already knows each other here.
When has anyone in this thread said anything about Hudson and Walters being evil or bioware being the devil tho? Broken Steel actually fixed the mistake though and added additional gameplay, the EC fixed a few minor problems not everything.Vinchisters wrote...
I love how every thread on BSN turns into an endings-bashing black hole and how almost every BSNer thinks that Bioware is the devil and Casey Hudson and Mac Walters are hitler and stalin. Shows how butthurt they truly are.

Sounds like you're projecting dat butthurt since not everyone is validating your opinion tbh.If that's not butthurt then I don't know what is.
