Fine with me. Mass Effect 3 should not have had Mass Effect in the title as well.

And your source is? I don't recall Bioware explained somewhere the game's name (they probably did during ME marketing, but I don't recall). And the mass effect fields theory seems more logical, since the very text intro of the first game explains the mass effect fields discovered by humans, right before showing the name 'Mass effect' on screen.
If you have a source that confirm your theory, link it. Otherwise, it's just your opinion.
On topic, I don't think they'll change the name.

Old news is old.

Pretty much. Hasn't Bioware been saying for a while that it would be unfair to call it Mass Effect 4. There are so many possiblities that, I don't care what it is called, I am going to be super excited. Maybe it is et 5000 years into the future. Hmmm? The possiblities.

Sadly, it doesn't seem like anything new. I swear that the quote was actually what Yanick Roy said in the ''Not Mass Effect 4'' thread.

And there's no plot, only character intrigue that you can do whatever you want with and sex-scenes everywhere.

Sounds like Mass Effect 2, to be honest.

Not even. This'll be the new ME dating sim that so many fans secretly hoped for.

Second of all, I wonder what these hints imply. Will the title be changed to reflect that this is not about Shepard?

The title "Mass Effect" refers to the mass effect fields (duh) which make magic possible, and not a reference to Shepard. As long as the same fictional rules of physics still apply it would make a certain amount of have "Mass Effect" in the title of whatever game they are working on.

I'm guessing that it will be a rebranding exercise similar to Call of Duty -> Call of Duty: Modern Warfare -> Modern Warfare 2 (which didn't work but that never stopped anyone in the games industry)

Lol, you're such a retard. But, at least I laughed this time.

Unless they start by retconning ME3 ending or do a reboot, I doubt it. Maybe not even then. I don´t think ME had the numbers to become a CoD or AC even before the 5 final minutes screw up, and from what I´ve seen from some other games, the bar for being considered successful is getting higher.

I'm expecting/hoping for a Final Fantasy-esque scenario for the series here.
For example: The new games may feature the Reapers, the Catalyst, the relays, and all the same eezo technologies. However, the races, characters and history will be completely different. It will basically be a cycle in an alternate timeline happening near the point in time of Shepard's reaper war.
Despite the changes though, there may be some new races with similar traits as the ones we are familiar with, or subtle power dynamics between races that are familiar. The reapers in the new universe could even be the same exact ones as those Shepard met-- reapers who actually traverse dimensions when we think they are sleeping in dark space, always harvesting.

But hey: I'm just spit-balling an idea for why they might change the name. (At least they wouldn't have to worry too much about continuity with the OG games if they continued with parallel universe installments)

Good. It's a sign that they aren't considering a direct sequel from Mass Effect 3, which would be doomed to failure.
I believe that the best way to go would be an alternate universe, a total reboot, a reboot remaking Mass Effect 1, or at least a partial reboot with a lot of retconning (especially of the events of the third game).
But even this small hint that they are not continuing from Mass Effect 3 is good news to me.

well sadly, they painted themselves into a cornor. They really can't do a prequel because we already know the history, Turians humans make peace. so unless they want us on a rail shooter or break off and make a parall universe situation then thats the limitations to the story, if they really wanted to tell anderson's story honestly this is where comics or books would be a best spot for.

And having a game after a Galaxy wide event like the ending of ME3, then frankly thats a huge understaking. and while you can go with a set cannon, which will already upset about 2/3s of the fanbase because there cannon will be different. In 2 of 3 endings you have the reapers around to take care of all your problems. War breaks out, send in a few reapers to stop the war. There would be no conflict. Sure you can go the spy route but thats about it.

Not saying BW can't do a good spy game I'm sure they can. But thats not what ME is about really.

So unless they cannon'ed the destory ending, the galaxy really can't move on (Unless they wanna do some galaxy hoping or something but even then...

I always favoried the "Reboot" of the series, heck why not make it so the Reapers could have been defeited conviontally. I mean they could have used the shutting down of the relays as a way to have "overwhelming force" in systems and to prevent any sort of cordiation.

Why do people have so much faith in a reboot?
