I don't see at all why we would need to know all the companions for Bioware to offer us a reveal of one companion who would also be an LI.
If it were up to me, we wouldn't tell you a single other thing about the story at all--never mind the characters you meet, or who will join your party. The desperation of some people to spoil themselves silly is a bit of a mystery to me.
I'm not in to being spoiled either, really. Don't mind simply learning who the companions will be, as far as names and nationality backgrounds, and basic details like "during the game there will be a civil war in X location," but that's the extent of the things I want to know, and it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if no such information was ever released. But I do understand the marketing drive for teasers.
I'll never forgive those people who, out of carelessness or pure ****ry I don't know, spoiled the ending of DA2's Act 3 on day one, just hours after the game went live. Once the release date actually gets close I'll probably go on a media black out to avoid the same.

I'm already doing my best to avoid anything that reveals anything about the game. I do look at the pictures we get and such, but I'm staying as far away as I can from anything about story and gameplay.

Although Valentine's Day would be a great day for a romance reveal. It is at least seven months before the game is due to be released that would mean that we would have to know nearly every companion seven months before the release date.
It's a great idea but I don't think they are going to tell us that much so soon.

yeah but the op was on about all the Li's not just one. We would need almost all of the companions if we were going to get all of the Li's. Looking at t he last game we could have not known Aveline, Varric and Caver/Bethany, all the rest would have had to be introduced if we knew all the LI's.

I agree, personally I want to see the gameplay to see what the game will be like but I don't really want to know too much of the story before the game is released.

To each their own. I've never found that very fun honestly.
I don't like buying games unless I've had it spoiled for me. At least I know what to generally expect that way.
And it helps me control expectations better.

Yep. I don't like being completely in the dark about a game. That's not a good sign to me. I like having information that's accurate. I can appreciate what the DA team is doing and it builds my interest, but it doesn't go into the steam rolled overhype that was the mess of ME3. Conversely, I know what to expect instead of being completely blind to what's going on in the game, and have enough spoiled for me to know whether or not to buy the game. I like having a clear indication of what my money is going towards. If it's a blind sale, I'm not going to be putting much faith in it since I believe the people producing it are asking too much on faith.
And BW really doesn't deserve much, if any, faith right now. Not until they've proven themselves once more.

Fair enough I have no problem with other people knowing the whole story before they play the game. Personally as the time moves on I hope that the appropriate threads are marked with spoilers though so that those of us who want the build up without the plotlines can still use the forum.

This I agree with. That's annoying for everyone. It shuts down good discussion of spoilers and spoils people who didn't want it.
Spoiler groups/threads are my preference. Preferably without obnoxious spoilery titles. So all the spoiler junkies have a safe place to discuss without worrying about stepping toes and non spoiler junkies have a clear place to avoid.

I'm pretty sure that the forum here will be split, just as all the other games are.
I can't remember how the forum ended up during the last release it was so long ago, but if they split the forum for disclosure and non-disclosure that sounds good to me.

But.....anticipation is such sweet sweet pain....and anticipation with just enough knowledge to speculate is almost heavenly pain.

In general, I don't disagree with you. In the specific case of the LIs, though, it might make a difference in my class choice. If I spend a relatively large slice of the game with the LI in my party, it makes sense to have my PC be of a different class.

There's a reason, at least for me. But it's very OT and I'd rather not bring that particular baggage to a thread that's not about it. If you catch my drift

Fans can be irritating but they are fans and they are potential customers who will hopefully buy the game and make the company a profit and let the developers bask in the sunlight.
So who decides reveals anyway. Gaider says he doesn't . I assume it's Flynn or Laidlaw or both though I might be wrong .
I of course was hoping for Valentine's Day but oh well we'll find out eventually .
lol.

I don't really consider knowing the names and basic description of partymembers as spoilers. Even if you never see them before you can tell that the NPC who has a distinctive look is probably a companion - also the companions offer to join pretty quickly. When you meet Isabela she joined you right away anyway and I didn't know Anders was the "healer in darktown" before I saw him, even though I knew he would be a companion.
The problem is not only spoilers, but things change during development. Its probably too far along to remove a character now, but they might make significant changes to them if something else is removed and the character needs to be modified to fill the role or they aren't working out in their desired role. Then they have to deal with a "you promised it would be this way" or other negativity because the development of the game changed.
We probably will have more information before the game is released and if people really need to know before playing the game I am pretty sure there will be pages upon pages of information after the first few days the game is released.

True.
For all we know, the "Dorian" magister has become Vivienne the former Circle mage

This is nothing comoared to Dr Who fans clamoring for spoilers.

The amount of information I like to know about games well before purchasing is about the same amount of information I take away from a film trailer: the characters/actors, the setting, the tone, and a lead-in to the conflict.
Exactly! I want to know the general feeling of the story and tone but I definatly don't want to read a script or see to much game play.
