I say solo is easier.

I have soloed Platinum.  Pugging Platinum has yet to happen for me.

#1 Off-host issues...(If I host, everyone will suffer the wrath of my shoddy connection)
#2 Nowhere is safe! ppl run everywhere...consequently kiting isn't possible and objectives get swarmed
#3 I like Vanguards and they are unplayable off-host
#4 I use lower level equipment when pugging

Curious if anyone else feels this way. At least when I pug gold I can clutch...until magnet hands at least...

Every pug platinum (with 3 other randoms) is a solo.

Except everyone dies while you are more exposed trying to help them. Then you have to survive the retreat to the edge of the map while getting all the enemies either in front of or behind you.  Only then is it a solo...and an off-host solo...generally with less powerful equips on.

Absolutely not.I have never soloed platinum and yet I have pugged it hundreds of times. The fact that the platinum solo run is a worthy achievement and that there youtube channels, forum threads, endless discussions about it, is direct evidence that it's harder to solo than to pug or do it with a group. As bad as other players can be, they can still be neat little speedbumps between you and the swarm of enemies. That terribad puggernaut that ends a platinum match with 20k score, is still better than nobody because it got in the way of those four pissed off phantoms, giving me the chance to take them out without being bumrushed.

From my recent Gold pug experiences I disagree. Just one capable teammate makes it much easier, and more fun - most of the time the pugs I played with recently were actually very decent.

I personally prefer soloing to pugs. I find it a whole lot easier.
My pick: Games with friends >= solos > pugs

Having said that, I do pug a lot and having even 1-2 good teammates makes it go very smooth. But my inclination is towards soloing.

Pugging is nearly always easier. You need extremely uncooperative and/or terrible teammates to make a team game tougher than a solo.

PUGging is obviously easier .. other targets drawing aggro makes it easy and quicker to kill the enemies

Edit:  by moments

Unplayable? Sir.

That sounds like it's your fault then.

I find pugging easier than soloing. Plus playing by yourself is for losers.

Pugging is harder. Ever seen how slow the hack and escort moves when theres only one person in it and the other 3 are dead? Or when a moron pug picks up the pizza, runs into a boss, then runs away, all the way around the map, runs into a boss again, repeat process.

It really depends on the quality of team mates I would think. I agree with TopTrog, if you get one other good player it should be easier if the other three are really bad then probably solo is easier.

These people saying solos are easier than even the worst of teams... I really have to wonder what the hell you guys are doing in these team games. I mean, do you actually try to play with the team at all, staying near them, watching their flanks, adapting to their strategies? Or are you off on the other side of the map pretending it's a solo and getting mad at all the enemies spawning in your face (or conversely getting mad at your teammates for dying from all the enemies you've spawned in their face)?

I don't really solo ever so I guess I just can't comprehend how anyone can find it preferable to even the most incompetent teammates who, if nothing else, can at the very least act as decoys for me.

All my regular friends no longer play so I am forced to pug with very rare exception.

Solos are boring. 1 person, not as much spawns. 1 person, you contrrol your spawn(s). 1 person, you can kite without dividing aggro to other unknown parts of map.

PUGs 1/2 the time end soloing, with spawning enemies for 4 people of which you cannot control so spawns are totally f-ed... with people intentionally trying to nuke you w/ an abom or in a reactor... 1/2 the time with loadouts that make no sense while using no equip no gels yet always managing to revive you while that banshee is right on top of you so you get revived into a insta-hug (or insta stab in the case of say phantoms).

A true solo is way way way way easier. A PUG that turns into every wave being a solo, no...

Splash damage is real. I cannot tell you the number of times I have died befause I am trying to be all teamy but take a banshee ball or atlas rocket that literally hit someone else just standing there... all damn game long.  Then when I run away, they run with me, take another rocket, and I die again cuz I've already blown through my ops packs because of their idocy.

Good PUGs that actually know how to play... sure, they're amazing and fast games.  But honestly, in the past week alone the number of truely good lobbies ive landed in w/ such players I can literally count on 1 hand... maybe maybe 2 hands.

It also depend son kit... if I am a shadow, my strongest position is as far away from you as possible.  If I am a juggy, it really doesn't matter where you are or where I am.

I don't really solo ever so I guess I just can't comprehend how anyone can find it preferable to even the most incompetent teammates who, if nothing else, can at the very least act as decoys for me.

I dont per say.  With max manifest credits dont matter.  When Pugs go down and its solo time, 1 wave is one thing, 2 or 3 I wait till you bleed and quit.

I find solos easier on objective waves. On the normal non objective waves lugging is actually easier since you have three decoys.

Yes...I try to help people...the problem is when your "team" pulls you to a part of the map where there is minimal cover and you are surrounded by enemy spawn locations.  They find themselves in a rez cycle as the $h1t storm closes in on them. I decide rezing someone else is a lost cause and blow through 1-2 ops packs trying to reposition somewhere reasonable.  Then, you can handle the wave methodically in solo fashion. However...my connection isn't great and off host issues catch up to me, since I can only actually solo Platinum with 1 class (for now) under ideal conditions and on my best of days...

Question 1: Someone said spawn is greater for 4 people.  Is that true? I was under the impression it was not.

Question 2: Do you hack faster if 1/1 people are in the circle then if 1/4 are?  This seems true now that you said it.

Seeing as how I've pugged Platinum before but have yet to complete a Gold solo... I'm gonna say pugging is easier. (Of course, in the Platinum games, *I* was probably the pug.)

Pugging. Never soloed plat but pug plat mostly. As long as your team mate can stay alive then pugging is always easier.

Pugging is generally easier. If I have a good connection to the host, playing in (even a really bad) team is a lot easier than soloing. If I have bad connection it's still a bit easier, but certainly more frustrating than soloing on my own host.

Answer 1: Striker was wrong about that. The wave budget is identical no matter how many players are in the game.

Answer 2: That is true. Hacks can be almost impossible if your 3 teammates have bled out early in the wave.

PuGing is easier for well over 99% of the player base, no doubt.

And I can certainly finish games much faster with three decoys running around than I can without them. At this point, they can be meleeing juggernauts, depending on what kit I'm using, and we'll still proably finish with a normal time.

I won't be finishing any Gold or Plat solo in 25 minutes, so it would be beyond absurd to even compare the two.

Sheesh. I know picking on pugs is fashionable and all, but this is getting silly. Go play with you e-peen, elitists.

I can't even remember the last time I didn't extract on plat pug. Seriously.

Soloing is only easier when your host isn't playing at 144fps.

Just sayin'

I think soloing is generally harder BUT objectives can't get really complicated with bad PUGs. I'd still rather have three decoys for most of the game and just deal with the objective waves being a little worse most of the time. Of course I'll likely have a PUG that makes me eat those words.
