I'm pretty sure I qualify as a PuG-level player on Platinum. While I can't measure up to the standard of BSN effulgence, I do often draw fire away from the legitimate players gracing the battlefield with the imprint of their feet, thereby accelerating the rate at which they make kills.

lol not warranted.

Nice GRE?/SAT? word though.

This thread is not about how much puggers suck... At least it wasn't supposed to be.  It is about whether it is harder to deal with being the only gun and meat shield on the field or if it is harder to contend with lag, enemies being everywhere always and not having the option of kiting away from objectives.

It is also because, again, I expected pugging to be easy after I finished a plat solo.  It wasn't.  For the above reasons in addition to not always selecting a specific map/enemy, being a suboptimal team player and not using the same kit I soloed with, I was unsuccessful. Just wanted to see if others had simillar experiences...

I could agree that soloing is easier or more fun than a PUG based on all the things you mentioned. However, the things that detract from the fun are 1) when the multiple Phantoms show up, and 2) soloing can take a long time and I get tired/bored. Therefore soloing Silver is more fun for me than PUGs because the game is shorter and easy. But, PUGs are more fun at Gold/Silver.
Also drinking is easier (and may be required) for PUGs. So, I vote PUGs are more fun.[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie]

If you applied the same play style, a PUG would not be more difficult than a solo. The possible exception is if they all managed to die at the beginning of a hack or escort. That's basically it.

You make the PUG harder on yourself if you try hero revives and other shenanigans that you obviously don't have to worry about in a solo. Also trusting that the guy behind you to actually prevent enemies from coming up behind you tends to be a bad idea.

These people saying solos are easier than even the worst of teams... I really have to wonder what the hell you guys are doing in these team games. I mean, do you actually try to play with the team at all, staying near them, watching their flanks, adapting to their strategies? Or are you off on the other side of the map pretending it's a solo and getting mad at all the enemies spawning in your face (or conversely getting mad at your teammates for dying from all the enemies you've spawned in their face)?

I don't really solo ever so I guess I just can't comprehend how anyone can find it preferable to even the most incompetent teammates who, if nothing else, can at the very least act as decoys for me.

I now play on gold mostly. I agree with you in principle - I prefer team games (public and private) and HATE soloing. On the other hand, this is because I find team games harder and much more interesting.

I feel solo-ing is easier but more boring. If you can kite and position yourself well, it's half the battle won. ok maybe if playing against Geth, one-quarter of the battle. But it's so lonely, and you think only of yourself, I don't get much sense of achievement extracting alone.

I find team games are almost invariably more difficult because - if you play with the team, as you say - of the ever changing situation you are in. I find myself drawn into difficult situations when a teammate falls in a bad place and I try to pull him out. I end up in a suboptimal position to fight myself, but it's MUCH more satisfying when you pull him back into a position where he and you can get back to killing things. I also learn a thing or two about the map, and about where to fall back to when the going gets tough.

of course, this accounts for my high use of ops packs :bandit:

Recently I had a good gold battle with 3 other public gamers - 2 of whom should not have attempted gold, and the fourth was a volus adept with a claymore 7 who was valiantly spamming shield boost to keep them alive. This was on hazard white/cerberus/gold, and the 3 of them persisted in chasing troopers out into the blizzardy open where they were surrounded and eaten alive. I stayed inside and had a mercifully easier time, but after I had used up half my consumables fighting lag by wave 5, I asked them to please stay inside. Surprisingly, they did, and we actually lasted until wave 10 (devices  ) covering each others backs for the rest of the match. I had the highest score by far, but I didn't feel like I was carrying, as everyone was contributing by the end. It felt like the fight was worth it, and 2 of them stayed on to have a successful extraction the next game B)

Okay, a couple of questions for those who think soloing is easier than pugging:

1) What would you say is your estimated soloing success rate and on which difficulty?

2) Do you ever quit a solo in progress for any reason, for example when getting the four devices objective?

3) Do you use similar consumables in both cases?

4) Do you actually put in the same level of effort and focus in both cases?

I don't like soloing for reasons mentioned already...BORING. I think i might've solo'd a couple of times only for some sort of challenge, but Schlave describes it perfectly. You get a sense of "comradery"..*raises fist* when you pug, and you get a better sense of satisfaction when you missle a banshee or praetorian that was about to wax a teammate.

The challenges are more rewarding too when you sometimes drop into a pug game and see all of those little pink skulls littered everywhere...i love dropping into those sort of games and saving the day...Image IPB
