This thread is a continuation to my thread which was closed a few hours earlier before running its course.
http://social.biowar.../index/17596373

The debate here what was shepard velocity when he/she entered planet alchera atmosphere after the normandy sr1 was destroyed.

My claim is that shepard speed was low enough in order to enable shepard body armor to survive the planet entry.
as evidence i provide shepard armor parts which survived the landing.

Please state your thoughts on the subject in a mature and constructive manner.

And I'm pretty sure the last thread got locked for your own good, erezike.
It's "course" was people getting incredibly abusive.

It did run its course actually. And you came off as a total drama queen who can't accept the fact that your head-canon doesn't actually make your wishful thinking a fact. You were verbally owned, the thread was locked hilariously exactly as predicted and within the time frame given. I only regret not having popcorn handy for that bout of internet hilarity.

Answer to your question? Fast enough to destroy his armor, and since he was wearing it, his body as well. That WAS his helmet, the crash site wasn't a fake, and Anderson is a paradigm of truth.

Giggity.

The numbers don't really matter. No amount of headcanon or equation pulling is going to change that.  All we know is that Shepard died, then was brought back, because Miranda so loved the galaxy.

Unanswerable without extensive headcanon and avoiding known silence.  Always has been, always will be.

That said, if you've landed on theories answers that satisfy your ME needs, knock yourself out!

Your headcanon is not law when contradicted by the game. Move on, play a game do something else instead of opening the same thread again with your headcanon.

Haha, the best part is that Miranda brought Shepard back because failing would hurt her ego.
Things like that is what makes me really like humanity. I wouldn't believe this whole ordeal if she did it "for the good of the galaxy". But the fact that she did it because not doing it would hurt her self-esteem?
I can buy that kind of attitude can move mountains or put together vapor into human tissue. It's the principle that counts.

I'd say you must be new here but your sign-up was way before mine...

I haven't been around since the EC came out because there wasn't anything to discuss before I did the other DLC. I'm currently right before Thessia with three playthroughs. I mostly just came back to post some thoughts on Leviathan but now I can't leave...

long story short David is a bit of a pain on this forum constantly pushing his rather rigid definitions of what makes games good, heroism, and other drivel.

It's up in the air if he's just a determined troll or just a really annoying user.

So how does that differ from most frequent posters?
I think I got flak from about three people on erez' last thread for saying that I don't care about particularities of what is good writing or good storytelling as long as the story is good.

Some of us have actually seen the math for this. It's not possible. Pointless thread is pointless.

he's in a league of his own, actively denying science because he can't understand the words I used to explain it, complaining that anti-heroes should come out on top, etc...

Well, I didn't see your last thread, but re-entry speed isn't the issue really. When you hear of things burning up in the atmosphere it is because their re-entry speed was based on their initial velocity (usually orbital speeds) which is approx. 17,000 mph. At that speed things burn up. If the Normandy was not actually orbiting the planet, just drifting along when Shepard was expelled into space, then we can easily assume that he simply "fell" to the planet using the planets gravity.

In which case you simply only need to know the terminal velocity. To know this though, you would have to know the strength of the gravity of the planet (how massive it is). You also need to know the atmospheric density. Also was Shepard conscious during the descent or passed out? That will determine what sort of aerodynamic profile he/she might have had.

On Earth, the terminal velocity of a human being in a random posture is about 120 mph. It doesn't matter if you fall from 1 mile up or 50. The terminal velocity at the planets surface (the point of impact obviously) will be the same. approx. 120 mph.

Look up Felix Baumgartners skydive from 23 miles up.

One of them was me. Ok, I apologize. I thought you were some mindless drone. But from your recent posts I kinda like your cool insights and neutral standpoints on certain subjects.

What it differs David from people like, let's say, me is that his posts are sometimes rants that cannot be understood. His points of view are really unique, for not saying weird. And sometimes, he just trolls for the sake of trolling. If he does not like something, he says something like "Move this stupid stuff to other place where it is really needed".

In 2010, there was this guy called "Zulu DFA". Wierd guy, but at least he was funny. Now here, in 2013, we got this dude "David7204": Hero and saviour of the BSN forums.
