Sadly now varric will serve as goody two shoes who will lost approval when you don't help peasants ahh another anders?

Varric
was always a good person at heart. The fact that he cares that people
died doesn't make him a 'goody two shoes.' Nor is it any sort of
character inconsistency.

Nah he never complained if i did something selfish and dic*** he complained only in some cases when it comes about saying "that is illegal" .In dai gameplay he was crying because inq refused save them lol stupid pesants instead keep

He approves of Hawke doing things to make a profit and perhaps being a little greedy. He doesn't approve of Hawke violently killing innocents, hates it when you betray friends, approves of you caring for your family, etc etc. He's a shady guy in a shady position with a good heart. It makes perfect sense that he'd be sad to see innocent people die.

Varric is bad ass non-traditional dwarf with interesting views while Cullen is Templar
which could provide a new perspective on Templar side and there still a lot of room for
him to developed.

@x-aizen-x: But I didn't start a debate about opinons, and I responded on your OP in my first post. You just decided to focus on the opinion part of my first post.

^ This.
Anyone who has commented about the topic and his OP he immediatly targets and focuses on that instead that we actually did respond to his question before the topic and OP.  And becomes a woman and gets defensive and hasn't done a thing wrong but it's all us.
Ah the butthurt flows through him greatly.

I find Varric a lot like myself. We're laid-back, sort of greedy, fun to be with, and have the sexiest chest hair that'll make the women swoon. I find it difficult to be mean to such a swell guy.

I liked Varric...but idk, it doesn't feel right having him in DAI.

We already had him as a companion for a full length game and now we have him again at the expense of a potential new companion.

I get it, Varric is very well connected. But I have no problems with him as a major NPC in DAI...it's just him being a companion that bugs me.

Varric was awesome because he was funny and capable. He performed his ranged damage role well, he opened chests like it weren't no thing, and his comic relief was clever, never forced nor annoying.

Cullen, hell... I have no idea. He seems really normal, to me--maybe some people find "normal" to be irresistible.

I like Cullen from DA:O. He plays an interesting role if you are a mage. While in Draon Age 2 he is a sensible templar, even after his experience in the Fereldan tower.
Varric is a super bro because he is a dwarf who loves to drink. He tries to watch out for you and he is the reason you are able to go into the deep roads.

I think varric is a good companion. im glad he back. but cullen, i never really understood why people liked him. but to each there own. but i think(my opinion only mind you) that alot people are gonna rage on the forms if he confirmed not to be a companion. I'll say since we get cassandra that he get lefted out.

I thought Varric was cool in DA2, by far my favorite of the companions. He was funny and I was always wondering just how much clout he had in Kirkwall.

Cullen, I really didn't like in DA:O especially as a mage, if he had his way we all would have been put down. That mixed with the whole romance angle if you were a female mage really made no sense to me. His views on magic and mages evolved in DA:2 but I still never really thought much of him.

I don't understand why anyone likes any of the characters from DA2 or why people like Cullen either.

Varric wasn't always meant to be a bro. He was actually meant to be a really sleazy guy who only cared about money and himself. But he is really is the only person in DA2 never complained about anything and stuck by Hawke no matter what. So that's what makes him a pretty hip guy. And he's really sodding sexy imo. ;)

Cullen on the other hand, I have no idea. I admire the character but I don't get the obsession with him.

I really don't get Varric; I took him with me the first couple rounds of DA2 but ever after I always leave him :P I was disappointed to see he'd be a companion again, but no biggie; I don't have to take him. There are eight other companions. :D

Exactly, there are plenty of instances when killing, or threatening someone will give Varric rivalry points, but there are only two instances in which killing someone will earn approval points from Varric. One is Bartrand, if Anders is not there to heal him from his insanity, the other is Keldar, the crazy elf killer who begs Hawke to kill him. In both instances the characters are not only in a lot of pain themselves, but also completely out of their minds and liable to hurt many innocents should they be allowed to live. To many people, particularly those living in the Dragon Age universe, these would be considered mercy killings.

Cullen made us girls get all fangirly because he had a crush on fem surana or fem amell. So like forbidden romance situation. (Although zevran Is my ultimate fav LI option.) I personally would be more interested in the warden companion because he looks badass. Varric was awesome because of chest hair and a level head + he was funny.

Varric is the bees knees.

Cullen is a minor character who has as much personality as a slice of stale bread. About as generic as you can get.

I tried flaunting my chest hair and talking about the love for my crossbow while out on a date tonight.

Ended up being a short evening. What the hell, BSN?

I think the better question is, what is the obsession with all the blonde men?

Cullen, Varric, Anders, Alistair, Zevran. If Varric and Cullen are actually romance options and are the only male romance options, I'm going to start thinking Bioware appearance priorities are a little skewed in the direction of white supremacy.

I'm really hoping they throw in a cute guy with some other hair color in DA:I, bonus points if he has varying racial features other than white.

More on topic though, I love Varric, he's a very nice and loveable man. The whole Cullen thing disturbs me to no end. IN DA:O, it is border line abuse to try to mess with his feelings and then he goes on to snap and kill a bunch of mages.

Oh yeah, keep screwing with his feelings and beliefs. See how well that ends.

But I guess that much was swept under the rug to make people more comfortable about Cullen.
