I Found really aggravating that no matter who I sided with in DA2 I still got attacked. If you side with orsino he turns into an abomination and attacks you for absolutely no reason. And I literally kissed meradith's ass and she still turned on me.. FOR NO REASON. I was perfectly fine with orsino using Blood magic, because I was using it to! But out of the blue he goes haywire and attacks everyone. So I was left standing there like WTF just happened O.o. Please if I side with a demon I understand that, that demon might betray me, because well because he's a demon. But if I tell a freaking old good that I dedicate myself and the inquisition to serving him and help him take over the world there should be no reason for it to attack me. I mean meradith and orsino technically did not betray me, they just went ham and attacked me for no reason. So please, i'm all for surprised betrayals but that's not what this was. In DAI I if an evil villain tells me his secret master plan and I agree to help him, it would make no sense for him to attack me out of the blue for no reason. Because then all he would accomplish is loosing a person who is in charge of an entire army.

Having to fight either Meredith or Orsino if you sided with them is pretty stupid.

Orsino was meant to survive but the developers wanted to add in another boss.... a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge mistake!

Yeah, he should have stayed as the boss for the Templar path only.

I think that Maredith was somewhat justified in the fact that the red lyrium idol was literally poisoning her mind, and she was more insane than anything at this point.
But even so it still felt a bit akward.

Orsino's made no sense what so ever. If you side againt him I can kind of see why he would be driven to such desperate extremes. But if you side with him it felt really forced and unnecessary, suddenly out of the blue he just goes nuts and create a horrific blood magic ritual which ends up with him killing everyone he can indiscreminantly, templars, mages and allies alike.

Hawke: Oh Yeah, we are kicking templar ass!

Varric: One more for me, how many you got Hawke?

Hawke: We are going to drive them back! How are you, Orsi.....?

Orsino: *betrayal*

Hawke: wtf is wrong with you?

--------------------------

It would have been more plausible if Orsino had contact with the Red Lyrium and became crazy like Meredith. For example, he knew that the Meredith sword was different and secretely made experiments with it, or something....

This. I don't care about the quantity of boss fights, or throwing them in "just because", I want them only when they make sense in the story.

For once you make a topic that I can agre with aizen. Dragon Age's lack of agency in the ending was annoying.

NO NO NO. See that's thing this does not really count as a betrayal. He did not turn and say "HaHa I am not going to kill all of you in here(Despite that fact that we were his only allies and killing us meant he would have had to face the angry army of Templars that were waiting outside for him alone) because I am secretly just plain evil and crazy"

O NO what he did made far less since then a pointless betrayal.  What orsino did was simply go ham turn into JABA DA HUT and attack everyone. He never actually confessed and betrayal.Image IPB

Orsino's was especially stupid seeing as he was panicking about being 'backed into a corner' when we were absolutely whooping their asses. :S

Blame Bioware for wanting a mandatory boss fight at all costs.

I would have wanted to kill both anyway. I'm fine with the option being there.

Not really. As a pro-mage Orsino breaks down due the deaths of his friend. He's still responsible for Quentin, but he's not an a@@hole or insane. I don't know the reason of having two different versions though.
As for the OP, I agree. It was incredibly disappointing to face both Orsino and Meredith regardless of your choice.

Can't argue... it was pointless to fight Orsino when I agreed with him and we were winning. Him turning into a meat mountain helped exactly nothing.

What would really be stupid, was if he had control over himself wHILE he was in his JABBA DA HUT FORM.

Bioware made him became an harvester for the purpose of transforming him in a monster with no control. There woudn't have been reason for Orsino to attack a pro-mage Hawke otherwise. The same goes for Meredith and RL in the case of a pro-templar Hawke.

Can't argue.  Orsino spends forever talking about how they may have a chance with the Champion at their side.  You join him and beat back the templars into retreat, so obviously the next action was to lose all hope, resort to blood magic and go completely out his mind <_<

Why not?  Pretty much every other mage that used any type of blood magic in the game lost their mind.  Attacked their family, allies, killed their wife, etc.  Given the groundwork they laid out in the game he could have attacked Hawke using blood magic in any way.
