Mage who specializes in Fire/Frost, plus Chain lightning. Arcane Warrior just for the spell to let me wear heavy armor. Other than that mostly Blood Mage (Blood Wound ftw!) and Force Mage. Plus a healing spell or two.

I hope there will be melee fighting specialisation (more like arcane warrior than force mage).
And i want to carry a sword too ! (i really liked the sword for AW specialisation in DAO)

I usually play as a damager/controller. Since I tend to be in the middle of the melee with stuff like Mind Blast or Cone of Cold, I would greatly enjoy some battle mage/arcane warrior-type specialization. I had a blast with those in Awakening. :)

I usually play primal mages ( fire, ice, stone, lighning - don't know why they separated them in DA2 <_< ), but I take the healing spell - it freed me of Anders dependency :pinched:.

If I had to chose for a specialization - Force Mage, Battle Mage or, if they bring it back ,

Arcane Warrior

No blood mage for me ( at least not the first playthrough )

They added some interesting field controll spells like wall of ice and wall of fire . I think it will be interesting.

Now I'm just waiting to see in what my mage can specialize and then I'll chose.:)

Primal and Arcane with Spirit Healer specialization in case my main healer gets one shoted. Blood Mage is ridiculous to begin with; Arcane Warrior, Force Mage and Battle Mage were far better choices over that useless skill tree.

As close to a combination of Battlemage / Force / Elemental as I can get. Plus a heal spell if I can get it.

My first mage will be focused on elemental magic. For the specializations, I don't know. My first mage will be dalish, so if there'll be a Keeper spec I'll surely pick that.

I'll end up playing a spirit healer unless their effectiveness is reduced to the point that it ends up being a waste. I would like it if the restrictions on their offensive ability was removed like they were in DA:O. I tend to value support abilities and defense over offense. I guess for me being immortal is more fun then being an unstoppable force. If spirit healer isn't an option and it makes a return I'll go the arcane warrior path instead.

Looking at it from a storyline perspective I like playing a spirit healer because they have the power to restore rather then to destroy. I can't remember who said it but one quote I liked was. Any dirt slinger with a sword can kill someone but to snatch someone back from the grave is real power.

Never really got behind mages in DAO, though I did do about half a playthrough as an Arcane Warrior. In DA2, I always played Mage!Hawke as a Spirit Healer. Properly specced, a Spirit Healer Hawke is the next best thing to invulnerable. Not much offensive oomph, but unkillable. I'll probably do something similiar for DAI when I get around to playing a mage.

I kinda hope anyone playing a Blood Mage in DAI around Veil tears and a demon invasion gets influenced to go mad, maybe possessed, and just makes things worse for everybody. Since that's exactly what should happen according to the lore. I think people have gotten spoiled by the fact that previous player characters haven't had any negative effects whatsoever from being blood mages despite every single other blood mage in the games doing exactly what the Chantry and Circle says will happen: go insane and kill a bunch of people, fall under the sway of demons and become abominations, or post long-winded atheist screeds on BSN with God find-and-replaced with Maker, and church replaced with Chantry.

(I might have made that last one up. Or not, since I read way too many posts like that back during the DA2 days and it always seems to go hand-in-hand with the 'blood magic is perfectly innocent and useful and there's no downside' crowd.)

I never play bloodmage for RP reasons.
I really like playing healer in MMO's but it's a drag in Dragon Age.
Force Mage amuses me , in theory. But it requires the whole party , lots of ennemies and a large area to really shine , the mages controls the ennemies in one spot and your companions rains doom on them.

Mostly in DA2 , I played Primal ,chain lightning , petrify etc and kite a lot.
I like a few spell in Elemental like the cone of cold.
But to be honest , the more fun I ever had in DA2 was when I decided to play a rogue.

From what I saw in the DAI gameplay video , I liked the runes of cold , the ice wall was neat too , and teleporting.
Thought I think playing a sort of monk class could be sweet.Healing + crowd control + hitting people.I really don't like the whole pew pew with the staff.

Anyway I'm not the best example ,I don't really enjoy party based combat. :s

DA2's were rather dull tbh. I'd rather Shapeshifter (if they finally balance it at least), Arcane Warrior (especially if they remove sheath-draw loops), or Battlemage (seeing as if I take point I end up in the thick anyway).

If we really ARE going DA2, I prefer (gameplay) the Spirit Healer tree. As far as RP goes, I prefer Force since it is the only one not dabbling with Fade denizens.

I typically don't like playing as a mage since they're op in general; when I do though it's usually a non-elemental user.

I wont roll a mage first, or second, maybe third, but when I do I'll fully invest in elemetal and primal magic and specialize as a Blood Mage, hoping it has a cool effect on the game.

It really depends on what's available; I don't usually care for specializations much. I'll likely play a somewhat balanced mage--for damage, I'll start with ice and lightning, though earth is sweet if the spells are any good, and I also like to pick up the Glyphs and basic healing from Creation.

Eventually, it'd be neat to play a mage focused in Spirit, I think. Hopefully we'll get lots of new abilities to flesh out our options.

My PC won't be a mage for my first 2 playthroughs, but I'm planning to just have a standard spirit healer in my party that will heal, give my party buffs and maybe a little crowd control depending on how the spell trees look like.

When I finally do play as a mage I'm going to be a mage that focuses mostly on attack. I'm planning to focus on elemental magic this time around instead of becoming a blood mage or arcane warrior.

I've always figured spells that have a lot of force behind them would suit Qunari mages well.

That Sarebaas spell that hits you during the end of Act II, when Meredith saves you, knocks the whole party flat on their a**es.

We need that spell, or something similar for DAI!

EDIT: I give up entirely on trying to clean up quotes.

The Keeper and Battle Mage were pretty cool in Awakening, so I hope they expand upon those abilities, especially if they plan on making the elven mage Dalish.
