(if the story has one btw)

In a fantasy story, there is always a bad guy. DA:O has a crazy dragon. ME has a victim-like. ME2 has a annoying machine pissing us off. ME3 has an ambitious and respectable human. DA2 has...... Meredith?

Anyway, what kind of antagonist you want to see people?

First, I think the antagonist is a mage (or maybe a demon? Or something else?) and he had something to do with the veil incident. Because we don't know his identity and therefore his motives, saying he is evil and just wants to destroy the world is a safe bet (but I doubt it).

IMO, we need an antagonist a little like the Illusive Man but different. He should be like: "You can disagree with my means, but don't argue with my motives".

I would prefer 3 antagonists : the main one, the one that's responsible with the Veil Tears to be lawful evil, the Red Templar leader neutral evil and possibly a dangerous Fade escaped entity that's chaotic evil.

I've only got one thing I want in an antagonist. I want someone I can hate so I can I enjoy watching them die. When Alistair killed Loghain in my story, I was like YEAH!!! He got what he deserved, IMO, and it felt good to see him get it.

l want the main antagonist to be a Tevinter Mage who traveled to the golden city and survived from getting tainted into becoming a darkspawn which cause the Veil Tears to open and that the Mage had a plan in a plan mentality who can think 2 steps ahead of anyone else, someone who sacrifices anything for what he want and would do anything with no bounds
The second antagonist would be someone who corrupt anyone to do his bidding for motives which is cynical but there are some good in it not completely evil and could be convinced to change his ways and eventually become a good person
Finally No plot armored characters like Kai Leng

Someone like Irenicus I suppose. Mysterious, powerful, calm but stil crazy. Someone with a plan that you don't fully understand in the early parts of the game. Someone tragic that you kind kind of sympathize with, but who's 'means to an end' attitude still make you hate him/her.

Excellent idea. Having Loghain's lawful to the Archdemon's chaotic was pretty awesome, though I'll concede the was it was handled left something to be desired. Everyone just focuses on Loghain and how to stop him - the treaties feel like obstacle episodes to defeat him - and then when he's dealt with it's just "oh wait, the darkspawn, almost forgot about those guys. OH RIGHT FORGOT THAT WHOLE ARCHDEMON thing riiiight, I'm on it".

If they can juggle the three - hell, maybe they intefere with each other. Maybe the reason you fail, for dramatic tension, isn't because of cutscene incompetence or villian omnicience for the sake of cheap drama - maybe you were fighting Lawful, and then Neutral got all up in your face, and then it didn't matter because Chaotic ruined short-term plans for both of you, and everything is screwed up while three entirely different factions wrestle for control. Like 1v1v1 v 1!

Multiple antagonists with different alignments and goals sounds very interesting... I don't remember playing a game with that kind of conflict going on in the background.

I'm not really sure what to expect, since there doesn't seem to be any obvious benefit to someone opening up Veil tears. I hope that whoever it is has a good reason for doing it, but it doesn't really have to be that complicated. Given what we know about the plot, I'd prefer a simple "demon who wants to take over" storyline to something that is overly complex but ultimately makes no sense.  So my answer is, an antagonist with a logical plan.

I'll be happy as long as it's not a totally faceless evil with hordes of minions (The Archdemon) or someone crazy. (Meredith)

I want an anti-villain, someone who isn't a mustache twirling villain. I don't want some cheap, childish notion of morality with good and evil.

An antagonist doesn't even have to be a villain. Like Loghain or TIM, I honestly don't view them as villains. Antagonists unquestionably, but not villains.

A good antagonist makes you think. Makes you wonder what you really believe in or why. At least, that's how I view a good villain.

I want a rival. Someone who shares a deep connection with my PC on a personal level. One that becomes my enemy because of a difference in views. I don't want them to just appear near the end of the game, I want them to be there from the very start.

Human please.

No fade demon dragons, abomination mages, half darkspawn special snowflakes... I'd really like a person that is a formidable opponent because of his smarts and guile and not because they're some super special monster with superpowers. Loghain was an interesting antagonist, not the archdemon. If there is some monster we're supposed to be fighting I hope they will at least set up a similar situation as with Loghain/archdemon in DAO.

I need something that would test my skills in combat and put my decisions to the test as well.

Dragons and Demons, I had my fill of them, they are one thing but I want something real for a change. A real antagonist, a ruthless tyrant or something cunning enough to use what I built with my Warden /Hawke/Inquisitor against me if it has to.

And I don't want something manipulative like the Architect or some Lyrium crazed templar or a mage driven insane by fear. I want something that could even have a connection or relationship with my character, something deep and unexpected, something that would make me think other things aside from what button I should mash to drop the boss faster.

I prefer whatever happens to fit the story.

Seems people are weary of a "crazy" antagonist, because they didn't like Meredith. But I think crazy villains can be interesting, threatening, and unpredictable. Look at the Joker. Look at Tuco from Breaking Bad.

Those aren't the best analogies to Meredith, but Saren would be. He went "crazy" because of indoctrination similarly to Red Lyrium.

I like this. If I had to chose one single antagonist, I would prefer someone inteligent that does what he does not because of power, but because he thinks that what he does is the right thing to do.

Still, if I had the option to chose multiple ones I would like a mix formed from a crazy and power hungry one , one that exists solely to destroy, a inteligent and tragic character that does it because he believes in his motive like Loghain and one that is a mix of all of them like Irenicus .

If they bring forth multiple antagonist ( major and minor ) they should provide mixed personalities so that they are from the mentally deranged ones to the more complex, tragic and capable ones.
