 Ever since the game has launched, there have been legions of rabid Claymore lovers.  Am I the only one who hardly ever uses it?

I mean I've had fun using it on the Juggernaut as reload canceling is easy and he takes a decent damage hit on most other weapons, but I use longer range high damage weapons more often due to the fact I use him as a mostly melee/hex shield character and pretty much only use siege pulse for defense.  And I used it on my shotgun/melee Krogan sentinel a fair bit back in the day.  I never particulary got into the human infiltrator claymore builds either....

It could be just because I don't like many of the single shot weapons and I'm impatient?  But I use the Acolyte a bunch so I don't think it's a matter of always wanting to be shooting all the time with weapon characters.

But I just prefer shotguns like the Reegar, the Piranha, the GPS, and even the Disciple for the low weight plus stagger bonus.  I've been liking the Piranha significantly less in multiplayer recently though.  Probably the lowered ammo capacity.  But I don't use a ton of shotguns in MP, the one I use the most is the GPSX on my Geth Infiltrator ever since I discovered the joys of a GPS build.

Why is the Claymore so great (other than the obvious stupid high damage per shot)?  I've just always found getting caught in a lengthy reload to be more trouble than it's worth, especially when surrounded.  On a cloak character I suppose this is less of an issue but...

All right I'm dragging this out.  Why do you love the Claymore so much and what are the absolute best classes for it?

I don't love the Claymore but I'm not as hostile to it as I once was. I guess my reload cancelling got better and I found characters that matched the rhythm it requires. I think I have had most success with it on the MQI, I presume its reload cycle matches quite well with the Tactical Cloak cooldown cycle or something, plus Arc Grenades stun enemies so compensate for my unexceptional aiming skills.

Headshots. I like it on accuracy-buffing classes; makes it do even more stupid-damage.

If you don't reload cancel, it's a pretty pathetic gun.
If you do reload cancel, it's rather good, just like the Widow sniper rifle.
Pair it with an Infiltrator or a character with high accuracy and damage output, and it's a solid gun.

It's a good all around gun, it is rare, and reload cancel timing is perfect with most power animations.

I can't comment on that, but it'd be good on a Turian Soldier as he has high accuracy/weapon damage passives as well as Marksman.

because it is what a shotgun is supposed to be. you shoot and kill, if you miss you can get in some trouble, other than that it is able to one hit kill every non boss enemy on any difficulty if you know how to use it and as stupid as it sounds it can make any character effective. if you get the hang of reload cancelling (i know we on the pc have it somewhat easier) you learn to love it and kill everything in sight

Except for the insane range and accuracy, which is not what a shotgun is supposed to be. It's a snipershotgun.

well the claymore itself has ****ty accuracy, the smart choke does the trick. i guess im right again?

And you seem to be a puggernaut and like the reegar, so that makes you a bad person.

Are you using the smart choke and reload canceling properly?

As for why it's great it's quite simple: tremendous stopping power for instantaneous TTKs against most enemies, very good sustained DPS, good range. What more could you want?

IMO the claymore is great, but I like to rotate through 9 or 10 of the shotguns, so I definitely don't use the claymore exclusively. There is kind of a claymore cult on here though, it's made for some amusing threads in the past.
