Talon X -1300 damage per round with HB and pistol upgrades without taking into account passives weapon damage or a kits unique weapon bonuses.

Actually, it's only 1200 per shot, but it certainly has a higher DPS than the Claymore (especially against shields/barriers). It's just not a one-shot-one-kill machine on its own.

Ok. It may only be 1200  Kalence says HB + Pistol gear + Pistol amp gives 1300 dam.. In any case it is a good alternative for those who are not so accurate or who prefer not to have to RC constantly .
On a kit like the GI it is powerful enough for one shotting mooks.
The only weapon that seems to come close to the Claymore in terms of damage per shot is a fully charged GPS.

Oh, I wasn't taking pistol damage bonus gear into account. I usually don't use that sort of gear. My bad.

I've always preferred the Raider, myself becuase the reload cancel is a bit smoother on xbox. From watch PC player vids, I doubt I'd have such a hard time with it if I played on PC, instead. I do use it on my Melee GI, though. The fire rate boost from Hunter Mode gives the reload animation just enough of a pick up that I don't bork the reload cancel.

Claymore has a better pattern than the Raider, which is why it works better across more classes than the Raider, IMO.

You're not. I sometimes use it if I'm working on the shotgun challenge but rarely touch otherwise. If I'm going to use a shotgun I typically use the Wraith. It's a little lighter.

Claymore is god.

It's not just reload canceling, it's anything with high risk high reward in video games in general which give the player the ability to push the damage output depending on the players skill level.

Oh absolutely; it really is a more versatile weapon since it's essentially a sniper rifle shaped like a shot gun.  I'm just better with the Raider because of reload cancel issues.  When I first learned how to do it, I got used to it on weapons with a slightly quicker reload animation (and therefore reload cancel).  With the Claymore on anything but my GI, I almost always cancel just a split second too soon.  My Raider users (who are almost all melee hybrids of some kind) have to get a lot closer and usually have some sort of distance backup just in case it's needed for objectives (for some of them this is a power as opposed to a weapon).  That's my trade off.

Also, for some strange reason, I can't headshot for crap with the Claymore.  Raider and Hurricane?  No problem.  But not the Claymore.  I haven't been able to reliably headshot since ME1, though, so whatever.

Headshots. I like it on accuracy-buffing classes; makes it do even more stupid-damage.

Agreed!

Actually, I hate the Claymore... but the reason I hate it is because I am not any good with it.

I have played a few games with someone who uses the Alliance Infiltrator Sexbot and they always DESTROY the level with the Claymore and taking down everything with headshots.

I wish I could do it, but it ain't gonna happen. I need something with more shots to make up for my bad aim.

I do agree with this and I use the Claymore more than the Raider.

Speedy reload, too.  I use it on my caster melee types (Brofist, Fury, Valkyrie).  I just love the boom boom of the Raider, though.  The Claymore makes that weird whizzing of gears sound right after its satisfying boom and it kind of ruins the effect, for me.

1 headshots all human sized enemies(capable of 1 shoting Ravagers with enough penetration) and even when you bodyshot it's a 1 shot kill on most enemies. Looks sexy and sounds like a baws.

It's a good gun and I really like it (easily in my top five), but I only use it on the Krogan Soldier.

What's the point of all those other guns, if you only use one? Variety, hoo[*insert more o's as desired, here*]!

It´s a lot of fun to use and puts out high damage. Shotguns as a class have the most really good weapons overall I think, so it all comes down to personal preference. I like the Raider and Wraith more but Claymore is a pretty bad*** gun, no doubt about that :-).

Ever since the game has launched, there have been legions of rabid Claymore lovers.  Am I the only one who hardly ever uses it?

I mean I've had fun using it on the Juggernaut as reload canceling is easy and he takes a decent damage hit on most other weapons, but I use longer range high damage weapons more often due to the fact I use him as a mostly melee/hex shield character and pretty much only use siege pulse for defense.  And I used it on my shotgun/melee Krogan sentinel a fair bit back in the day.  I never particulary got into the human infiltrator claymore builds either....

It could be just because I don't like many of the single shot weapons and I'm impatient?  But I use the Acolyte a bunch so I don't think it's a matter of always wanting to be shooting all the time with weapon characters.

But I just prefer shotguns like the Reegar, the Piranha, the GPS, and even the Disciple for the low weight plus stagger bonus.  I've been liking the Piranha significantly less in multiplayer recently though.  Probably the lowered ammo capacity.  But I don't use a ton of shotguns in MP, the one I use the most is the GPSX on my Geth Infiltrator ever since I discovered the joys of a GPS build.

Why is the Claymore so great (other than the obvious stupid high damage per shot)?  I've just always found getting caught in a lengthy reload to be more trouble than it's worth, especially when surrounded.  On a cloak character I suppose this is less of an issue but...

All right I'm dragging this out.  Why do you love the Claymore so much and what are the absolute best classes for it?

There are many weapons in this game that are better than the Claymore, but few are more rewarding and fun to use. That's why it gets so much love around here.

Best classes to make the Claymore shine: GI, Human soldier with Arenaline Rush, Turian and Quarian soldier, Batarian Slasher adept, AIU, Turian Havoc.

Why not just use a javelin? There's effectively no shield gate now. The javelin does a little less damage than the claymore but has way more accuracy.

Javelin is heavier, deals less damage, has noticeably slower effective ROF and is absolutely unforgiving if your aim isn't perfect (lag). And if you use Phasic Rounds to circumvent the shield gate that still very much exists, you lose the benefits of Incendiary, AP or Warp ammo.

Seriously, if there are a couple of Phantoms and Dragoons closing in, which weapon would you rather have?
