Search a solution to import and integrate Fallout Van Buren models

Hi everyone,

I come to you because I need your wisdom. To complete my Fallout Custom Content project, I would like to import 3D models from Fallout Van Buren (the "first" Fallout 3).

I work on Nwmax, I have the importing script for Van Buren models and I already managed to export a model in mdl format. The object appear in the toolset, I can use it in the game but he's very very small (like a tiny mouse). I tryed to change his scale in Nwmax, without success (it works in max, with scale option but the object becomes tiny in the toolset and the game).

So what do you think ? Have you been faced with this problem ? If I (you) can resolve this, a huge real Fallout content could be made available to the community.

If you have time for this, you can get this package (contains the nwmax script import for .g3d files, one model of Fallout Van Buren and the textures).

Is there a script to import .blend files in nwmax ?

Sometimes, it doesn't like you scaling objects directly. I find that if I go to the mesh level and select all the verts or faces, and then scale those (via the GMax main toolbar, not via the NWMax scaling utility), it usually doesn't cause hiccups. This is scaling all the bits of the object, not scaling the object, per se, so the "scale" will still be 1.0, even though you've increased the size. I don't know if that'll help, but I hope it does.

If that doesn't do the trick
Disconnect the model from the Aurorabase
Select the model... scale ...and then Reset Xform on the object (in gmax tools(?))
Go back to the "modify" tab and "collapse to" the mesh (beneath the Aurora Trimesh modifier)
Reconnect to the base

(I don't use gmax)

There is a scale wizard in NWmax which will do the resetting of the Xforms automatically.
Just select all the meshes you want to scale without any lights or the aurora base, start the scale wizard and enter the new scale in %.
You might have to disconnect the meshes from the aurora base first and reconnect them after the scaling. I'm not sure, because I usually scale models before I connect them to the aurorabase anyway.

Be sure that your model is a editable mesh, select it a press "ResetXForm" (Under mesh tools) in NWmax, before export it; That will save the new scale...

It works ! But I have to resolve my lighting problem on model. Its too dark in game, as you can see on the following screen shot :

Select the object's AuroraTrimesh modifier.  Tick the "override mat values" box, if it was previously unticked.  Then make sure that the ambient and diffuse colour values are pure white and the specular is pure black. That might help.

Edit your MDL file with a text editor or better with a code editor like notepad++, and change "ambient" and "diffuse" settings to 1 1 1 in both.

I, for one, look forward to seeing what more "Fall-out-esque" creations that can be transitioned.

(The import/export .ms script runs in Max too :-) )
