Something that aways rubs me off is that in the DA series, there is aways something wrong with the elven companions. Don't get me wrong, if you love them, that's alright for me, just more power to you. But for me, there is aways an trait in them that highly annoyed me. For example:

Zevran: He is actually pretty funny... untill you start asking about his job. Not only he likes it, he wants to keep doing it. Despite all that it involves. He could use his skill for something less harmfull, but he doesn't. And don't even ask about his opinion on killing innocents on his job. I was personally disgusted when I heard it.

Fenris: I was an pro mage, so I was annoyed with his rather narrow minded view of mages. Yes they can be dangerous, and yes, they need to be given proper training, but that doesn't excuse approving of the Templars abuse or instantly thinking that every mage in the world is an corrupt monster just waiting for an chance to strike at society. You are not on Tevinter anymore Fenris, so stop treating mages like they are all magister, that's unfair.

Merrill: I would have been alright with her if it wasn't for her blind views of Demons and complete ignorance of the consequence of her actions. Aways thinking she is right and that messing with dangerous things won't cause any harm because "she knows what she is doing". But the night terrors quests says otherwise.

Velanna: Do I even need to elaborate on this one?

Ironically, the DLC elf companions were my favourites. Sketch was an level headed guy that was nice to his companions and Ariane was an strong willed girl that didn't allowed her dalish origin to clowd her judgments and proved to be an good friend to the Warden without any personal bias.

So tl'dr I only ask that Inquisition presents us an elven companion that is an normal person that doesn' t possess an absurd view or biased prejudices.

I thought Merrill was nice. She reminded me of Linu, from NWN.

I don't think that's going to happen, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm hoping for the same.  Actually, I think I heard something about a male elven mage?  If so, he may be closer to normal than Sera, who is so far known as "bratty."  All we have right now are wild guesses, really...  I'm not sure if any of these people will even be in the game.

I think a fine compromise would be to have less elven companions. I communicated this to Sten via carrier pigeon and he approves.

Look at Cassandra, she's wearing her "not amused" face. I really doubt that could be elven companion is going to be that much fun if she end up a bloody mess on the floor because she pissed Cassie a bit too much.

She to me seems like one of those energetic girls. She may have told a dirty joke in that pic...

I think the op has a rather biased view of what should account for normal in a fantasy world. I hope they carry on having companions with firm held views on subjects as that is far more interesting. If those views intersect my protaganists on any given playthrough then that's great, if i can nudge them back from or encourage them to extremes that's even better. However I don't want Fenris to do a complete 180 & become a mage symthathiser, i don't Zevran to abandon his career and become a monk etc.

There's always something wrong with all the companions, not just elves. The only companion that is emotionally and mentally stable is Varric, and he was originally intended as a sleazy conman. (Until, fortunately, they noticed everyone else is nuts so it helps to have one person you can stand.) As it is he still retains some elements of that original concept.

In Dragon Age:Origins we got Zevran and he was... nice I suppose though he found a way to relate anything to sex. On my first playthrough he betrayed me since I didn't build enough approval with him. On my second playthrough I tried to get on his better side and I even got to know him as a person underneath that cocky character of his.

In Dragon Age: Awakening we got Velana a spiteful dailish elf meant to be a clan keeper. Filled with grief, sarcasm and a hateful attitude for mostly anything on two feet. Aside from that she had a difficult past and went trohugh enough to make people look the other way and away from her spite.

In Dragon Age 2 we got... Merril... a naive and weak dailish blood mage elf that was more or less a demon sympathizer. She refused to listen to reason and was obsessed with "helping" her people by consorting with a pride demon and to fix the Eluvian and probably let the demon enter the real world.

I am really hoping that this time around in Inquisition I will get a well made and good written elven companion that I can warm up to for once. Not a naive child, someone that can relay anything to sex or someone that has anger management problems.

Well, just because of the world they live on, doesn't instantly means all companions automatically have weird or crazy views about the world. For instance, many of the companions were rather normal people: Alistair is an normal person as far as he goes when it comes to personal views, Wynne is normal, Nathaniel is normal, Anders is normal (in awakening, that is), Aveline is normal, Varric is normal, Bethany is normal. It's just weird that every elven companion in the main games aways have an annoying personality or an extreme view. I just wonder why none of them can be an nice and normal person.

Other than the female elf in the concept (which appeared in a pre-alpha video on GI, so there are good chances she's in the party), there's a rumour of a male elf companion. He appeared in two different concept arts, and he might be the exiled magister highly skilled in healing magic called in the comics.

normal is a matter of oppinion, something that's normal for you isn't normal for someone else.

Eg Zevran is pretty normal for an assasin, Fenris behavior is normal for someone who has been abused heavely by mages and even Merril's behavior is rather normal for a young person that had their whole life dotted out for them without much of a say in it hence her stubbernes on the demon part.

Zevran is a controversial character, to put it mildly.
Velanna. Yeah, no comment.
Merrill. Blood mage who can bring a demise of the whole Dalish clan, but she's sweet and innocent.
Fenris. Former slave who was tortured by his master.

I definitely agree with OP.

Being hated and treated like dirt by most humans and being told to believe they are less than humans probably has something to do with having extreme views.

Also, don't forget "Annoying personality" is a matter of your own opinion. I didn't find any elf companion (Except Merrill) annoying. Extreme views are totally justified after being abused like Fenris was, and Zevran has lived his life as well as he could for how terrible it could have been. Would you prefer he was depressed, working as some **** in Antiva hating his parents for giving him that life?

Also like others have said, Tallis.

Might be because none of the mentioned examples grew up under "normal" circumstances.

Except for Arianne and Sketch (as in despite "strange" backgrounds somewhat normal people)

Meh, I kinda feel the opposite OP.

Tallis was contradictory and Sketch was bland and forgetable.

I liked Fenris more than some and less than others I suppose, I just always felt he stood out too much with his design, and that constant growling never did him any good.

I liked Zevran a lot though, he was really funny and I liked his flamboyant teasing of the male companions.

Velanna always dies in the Wending Woods, unless I play as a Dalish Warden. Even then I don't like her.

Merrill was amazing, loved what they did with her.

If anything, I don't really think I have any "kind" of elf I'd rather have in DA:I though I hope for less of Velanna and Fenris and more of Merrill and Zevran.

Ugh so glad they didn't go through with that. That would've been terrible.

Jessica Merizan talked about it for a couple minutes at one of the cons. I first heard about it at Gaymer X.
