What about Tallis?

Supporter of the dehumanizing (depersonizing?) totalitarian regime.

How does that make her less nice or less fun? Nice people can be unethical people or have extreme sociopolitical viewpoints.

The OP said "there is aways something wrong with the elven companions". I'm pointing out what was (massively) wrong with Tallis.

I wonder, do you feel the same way about Sten as well, or is this dislike exclusively reserved for Tallis?

The thing is, you can't have a perfect well adjusted character in a story like Dragon Age, cause then what's the point? Varric is probably the closest thing to a well received if not non-unhinged character. The closest he's ever been to not perfect was after he was starting to get possessed by the idol. This isn't to say that it makes the character boring, but it definitely wasn't coincidence, that Varric wasn't someone who Hawke could romance or had the closest relationship with.

If the character is fun and nice, and didn't have any flaws how could the writers express that characters growth with that of the PC?

I'm doubting Varric will be quite so happy go lucky in Inquisition. I'm looking forward to see how times have shaped him.

Sten was born into the Qun, Tallis chose it. Therefore, in my eyes Sten is more justified. (Sten was awesome, BTW.)

I don't dislike Tallis, mind you, she was a good character. Still, the "fun and nice elven companion" descriptor stopped matching her the instant I learned she was a supporter of the Qun. There's nothing fun and nice about that.

He did look pretty grim during the pax demo after that town got sacked.

I like how pointing out the flaws of a character means you must clearly hate that character. Certainly not possibly to like a character while recognizing their flaws.

Go away. My inquisitor requires an elf. Preferably the theoretical Tevinter.

On a serious note, there's always been an elven LI and I don't think there is any reason for Bioware to break away from the rule, unless they give in to fangirls and make Varric a non-human LI instead [1]. (Pretty sure the Iron Bull won't be a LI, or will be a DLC like Sebastian.)

[1] Not that I'm not a Varric fangirl myself.

Elves are ew.  Especially the males.  BEARDLESSNESS IS A SIN.
I will take Iron Bull over that elf guy any day of the week.

This is true, however.

If some mage managed to manipulate elven DNA to give them facial hair, that mage would be the true Hero of Thedas. And all my past feelings about mages would be forgiven.

I just came into this thread to say I hope I never see Tallis again.

Oh, and I'd like this elf to be a companion.

Facial hair is disgusting.

The only place the human body should have hair is on their heads, their eyebrows, and their eyelashes.

I thought they made too many companions too extreme. It got boring.Having chrs that are so selfish and self serving got old. They start out supposedly to help the people of their realm, clan, or tribe and then turn into screw everyone but me.Doesn't matter if it was Merrill or Alistair, or Anders.DA2 quit being a rpg when your on the second quest with Anders and you deal with those Templar's and the young female mage.If you don't have the response Anders does what he does to the young mage and your suppose go to gee whiz.Merrill in act 3 wtf.Isabela and Zevran it is understandable. Some of the others..frell.They gotten as cliche as Disney's.

D'aww!  I like how you call him an abomination since you know he despises mages and all!  Merril being nick-named Daisy yet practicing blood magic was pretty cute too tbh.
