I guess Bioware noticed that everyone was wearing visors on their Shepards and thought this was because people thought visors were really cool, rather than because they didn't have a helmet toggle option and were going for the stuff that didn't hide Shep's face.

To be fair I don't think either Chris L'Etoile or Jay Watamaniuk had anything to do with how Ashley looked in either game. The writers don't create the character models.

OP, let me show you what swimwear is because you have obviously never seen it in your life.
 

Now tell me how what Ashley is wearing in that picture is remotely similar to the above picture? Many women in RL dress like Ashley does, are they wearing swimwear too? No, they are not, and they would rightfully give you 
a slap for suggesting so. 

Also, let me just pretend for a moment that what your saying is remotely accurate, which it is not, but I'll play along. You do know that it is your choice if Ashley goes into battle in her casual gear or her armour right? The same as with Liara.

The bigger issue for me wasn't that Ashley was wearing a form-fitting uniform, its that she is the only person in the Alliance that we ever see wearing it.

Google 'military,' 'army,' 'marines' ect, and you'll see lots of photos of people who are dressed exactly the same. That's the point of a uniform.
