Oh wait, I completely forgot about Loghain. He was awesome. Strangely, there's bits of stuff in the game files that indicate he was originally intended to be recruitable much sooner... shame. I totally wish that had been. I like him way more than Alistair. Nothing beats befriending my old enemy.

Loghain, Varric, King Maric.


All three characters have proven themselves to be experts within their field willing to do what needed to be done, although I still believe Maric as far as a character was ruined in those awful comics, but that said that's only my personal opinion.

Loghain won me over back in DAO, The Stolen Throne and the other Novel he was featured in merely further cemented the point.

Varric was just the party dwarf. (Every party needs a dwarf but he was the best so far.)

Aveline Vallen What can I say? Donnic is a lucky man 

Varric Tethras, he is Varric. 

Alistair, great guy, fun to be around.

Athenril, she had me at "I can be honest. We don't compete with the thieves' guild but we keep our fingers in a lot of pots. That being said, we're not killers or slavers. Anything short of that, however, is fair game". Not saying I agree with everything she does but she is nice enough for a criminal and... I don't know, she's cool.

Maraas, he managed to leave both the Qun and the Tal-Vashot trying to find what he wanted to do with his life, that's awesome, here's hoping we know what happens to him in DAI.

Sigrun “In the Legion, death looms over us constantly, like... like a dirty uncle".

Nyree, I didn't think I could like a reaver but she managed it (imho, she steals the protagonism in the serie, from Felicia!).

Meredith Stannard, I know she is nuts and all but she is genuinely trying to protect people, with her background I can't blame her for her crazyness and I also can't help but like her (also, that armor).
...sure I'm forgetting someone 

I get the feeling I'll like the blonde elven woman in Matt's "Tavern" concept.

Okay, hmm, I will do a Top 5 since it's too hard to choose 

Top 5 Favorite Companions:
1. Fenris (well-written character and depiction of trauma, very sweet friendmance)
2. Isabela (a vibrant, amusing character with depth, really gelled with my FemHawke)
3. Alistair (adorable character, very innocent but respected by his writers)
4. Zevran (a character with depth, he's more than he seems, yet never reveals all)
5. Sten (very likeable character from a hard-to-like culture)

Top 5 Least Favorite Companions:
1. Oghren (a gross [as in icky] fantasy stereotype)
2. Varric (frankly just boring)
3. Leliana (the writers see more in her than I do, it confuses/frustrates me)
4. Sebastian (lovely voice, good design, nice concept, but it seemed like only 30%of him actually got written)
5. Shale (too many winks and nods from the writers trying to expose to the player that she is, in fact, a woman)

The only one of these characters I really don't like is Oghren though. The other four are fine; they're just my least favorites!

Of the three companions in Inquisition who've been released, the one I'm most interested in is... I guess Cassandra. As you can see, I don't much like Varric, and Vivienne honestly doesn't interest me. I'm not a huge Cass fan, but she's the only one left. 

I'm hoping to be wowed by the remaining companions

Dragon Age:Origins (and its expansions)

1. Alistair - my Warden's best friend. Always at my party, wherever the Warden goes.

2. Morrigan - LI. Also always present in my party

3. Florian Phineas Horatio Aldebrant, Esquire. (or Finn) - Witch hunt. You only spend about 7 hours with him, but he's alright

4. Velanna - She's awesome. Although a bit hateful to humans, I find her alright.


Dragon Age 2

1. Isabela - LI. She's funny and vulgar most of the time. But she does have something underneath all the bs.

2. Varric - Hawke's best friend. All around nice guy (almost too nice). Plus, I like his banter.

3. Bethany - Hawke's sister. I just feel like the brother-sister relationship works well. With both of their parents gone as well as Carver, I feel like it's up to him to take care of his sister, no matter how old and capable she is.

 I'm kinda lame in that I learn to like almost everyone.

I only dislike three companions, but I dislike two for the right reasons -- I may not like them in-world, but out-of-world, I like having their characters in the story. Those two would be Carver and Justice. The third is Merril (... don't get me started).

If I were to make a top-5, though, it would look like this...

1.) Loghain.
2.) Zevran.
3.) Morrigan.
4.) Leliana.
5.) Shale (DA:O's cast was truly special -- so many great characters).

*I don't have SeaBass in DA2.

Aveline : for her honor and her loyalty,and the fact she was a woman who could kick butt.
Isabela : For her humor and barter with Aveline.
Shale : For her sarcasm and hatred of birds.
Morrigan: for her mystery, and hardness to crack.

Varric : well who doesn't like the manly Varric.
Wynnie: a mother figure.
Leliana: for her accent and singing
Alistair : has some on and off moments with me, one sec i like him others i hate him.

Are we allowed to say our Hawke & Warden? If not...

DAO - I hate to say it but there is something so sweet and naive about Alistair so he was probably my over all fav. He defo made me smile the most in the game.

From a romantic POV Leliana but she was the only choice I had. Though I really enjoyed the process of romancing her but felt really cheated at the end of the game. I always was angry with BW in that if we couldn't ride off into the sunset with our RI. Why bother letting us get involved then? Might as well just have gone to the Pearl and saved the heart ache. This angered me so bad I wrote a 200 page book/novella correcting the issue in my own head canon world!

DA2 - Anyone who knows me, knows I heart Merrill very much. There was never any competition. That being said I really enjoyed Isabela's character a lot as sad and tragic as she was. Varric was fun too. I really admired Aveline in some aspects but in others I think she was not appreciative as she should have been.

TBO I enjoyed many of the NPC's better than most of the companions. Athenril, Charade Amell, Lady Elegant, Guards-woman Brennan and the "ham of despair" elf servant girl all were more interesting to me.

Sketch, if I'm allowed to use DLC characters. Otherwise Zevran. He's hilarious and has surprising depth when revealed in romance. Shale's great as well.

Didn't like any of the awakening companions that much. I kinda like Justice, expecially with DA redesigned.

DA2 is Merill.

Ranked in order:
Fenris; (DA2)Anders; Alistair; tie for Varric, Nathaniel, and Shale*; Oghren.

The others I can take or leave, and there is no one that I really despise. I'm not too into any of the female companions, which is unfortunate, since I am one. If I had to choose I would pick Sigrun and Bethany as my favorites among those.


* Yes I know Shale is female, but I don't really think of her as any particular gender.

I should add that I don't necessarily like all of the companions that I listed, as with Anders. However, I do think that he is a great character. All of those invoke strong thoughts and/or emotions in me, which is why I list them. For all of the others, I'm just, "meh..." with no strong feelings one way or the other.

I find that I liked pretty much every single companion both in Origins, Awakening and DA2 but there are two that stands out just a little bit more than the rest of them to me; Varric, who is my all time favorite character in Dragon Age, and Sten, who is a close second.
