Hey folks,
Bascially I've got a huge FRAPS video clip avi file (153 Gig) that generates an error whenever I play it in Windows Media Player. I've also tried to use Virtualdub to compress it but it Viertualdub won't open it. Is this because the file is just too big, my computer does not have the RAM to deal with it, or is the file corrupted? Every other FRAPS file plays fine so I'm pretty sure it's not a Codec or some software issue, so that's why I wondering if the file is too big or if it's just corrupted.
I don't know if a file that large would be a problem for a free program like Windows Media Player. I'd really like the material on that file...do I have any options here?
Thanks!
Tech help with AVI file please

Are you trying to play the video in a computer that has FRAPS installed?

Yes. I've recorded about a dozen other videos with Fraps (that were smaller size) and had no problems. So, I'm thinking it's got something to do with the file...I'm just not sure if it being so big is a potential problem.

Well, I've never recorded anything that big with Fraps. Usually, the program splits it into several smaller files as it records. If you've got Fraps installed, then you already have the codecs so that shouldn't be an issue. My suggestion for now would be to try with a different player such as BS.Player which is the one I use. It's free and you can download it from here:

Let me know if that did the trick.

Unfortunately not. It did tell me I either don't have the right codec (very improbable since FRAPS is installed and I can play every other FRAP AVI) or that the file is corrupted.
Looks like I just learned that I should stop FRAPs and quickly restart it so I dont have these huge files. Thanks for your suggestions.

I don't think you need to stop/restart manually. Fraps does it automatically in my case. You probably just have to tell it how large a file you want it to record.

Try Handbrake to compress the file (just what in the hell did you record to make a 150GB large file???). Some players simply lock up when facing too large files. Alternatively your harddrive might just screw up reading the file properly because it's too large.
