I hope so. Those forums are hilarious to read.

Dragon Age fans managed to keep the Origins and II forums open.

Perhaps the DA fanbase just doesn't harbor the kind of deviancy that resulted in outrages like the infamous Talisweatgate.

Bioware closed only the ME3 subforum, not all. The DA are still open. I guess they'll open one near or after release.

Its hard to say even though the Dragon Age ones might be still open, they are making changes to the forums so its hard to say how the forums are going to exist in the near future. If they do make it, I am pretty sure they would have a low tolerance if anything remotely happens like what happened in the Mass Effect 3 ones.

Hopefully, the ME romance forums were interesting in a mildly creepy sort of way.

Yes.

Where else would we discuss the taste of someone's sweat?

edit: why'd they close it again? cuz miranda fans started attacking each other, right?

Yeah the miranda fans were going nuts iirc. You can still read the threads,

We should. However, seeing as Jess and the BioWare 'bots were too lazy to keep polls/blogs/albums under tabs, we probably won't -or- it will shortly be locked down after it's created.

They just kinda don't want to do their jobs. Like, at all.

Let's be honest here: that wasn't the only insanity on the character and romance forum, nor even the worst. Having said that, I'm somewhat ashamed of having been part of it. I hope never to get as emotionally invested in a fictional character again. It was a first-time experience, and hopefully also a last-time one.

As for a character and romance subforum, I think it's necessary if only to avoid the campaign forum's being swarmed with character and romance threads. More heavy-handed moderation appears to be required though, and that costs money.

I don't see a need for character and romance discussion threads. They were by far some of the most circle jerkish, tribalistic, and just plain weird threads on BSN that are the cause of most of the toxicity that has plagued the forums. There was never any interesting discussion going on from what I've read, just "this character is great I love them *dumps fanart all over the place*" for thousands of pages and any attempts at bringing actual interesting topics up would be shouted down by other posters because it wasn't endless gushing.

If you want to discuss a character make a thread. But it doesn't need to go on for thousands of pages. If you want to post fanart or fanfiction there will likely be a fansection for that too.

Your opinion doesn't matter. There will be romances in Bioware games and so there will be romance & character forums.

I kind of agree with this.

By "fiasko" you mean Bioware not moderating a popular forum within a huge community of fans in the story-driven game. Yeah, that borders with criminal negligence.

Again. Why do you need an entire section to discuss romances and characters with giant megathreads about the characters that always turn into creepy cliques feuding amongst each other like feudal warlords?

I won't lie, I took part in the romance forums and topics regarding my favourite characters but it was as Morocco Mole pointed out, plan weird at times. Though I got a kick out of that, something darkly enjoyable about the most hardcore fans obsessing over a fictional character.

Somebody surely forced you to visit character and romance discussion threads under threat of violence. Poor you, you probably screamed and kicked, but you had to read that pesky threads. :?

I don't have a problem with a character discussion forum - spreading things out between two forums can be good if there's a lot of traffic, as there'll be at release - but I'd rather not have great big "fan threads.  They get all tribal and cliquey, and smother discussion.

edit:  I hope we don't split character builds and gameplay this time around, those forums are closely related, and too empty to be worth seperating.

Your ignoring my point. Character discussion threads can be interesting, and should be. But they cannot be interesting when they are all weird hugboxes that outright discourage any character analyzation in favor of gushing about them. Which was a major issue in the section.

Not to mention having threads that run for hundreds of pages get weird and repeat themselves

If you want to discuss a character, make a thread in this section.

What they should do is bring back the Mass Effect romance forums, because honestly, that's the only place where I can tolerate talking about Mass Effect anymore, aside from the Retake ME3: Initiative Log Facebook page.
