For the longest time, I had been against DLC, until one day I decided to change my mind. I downloaded Stone Prisoner because it was free and Witch Hunt because I romanced Morrigan. Having already played Awakening, I thought about buying Warden's Keep because "I could be a Warden-Commander, wearing Warden-Commander armor? Cool." But then I read on Dragon Age Wiki that it's incompatible with Awakening. That completely defeated the purpose of Warden's Keep for me, so I didn't buy it. I figured "why bother with the dlc if it's not even going to carry over?"
Why did they decide to make Warden's Keep DLC incompatible with Awakening?

I think the other DLC came out before Awakening, so they weren't able to transfer over to Awakening. Golems and Return came out after, and they were able to make them transfer. That's my thinking on it anyway.

There are mods that fix that and allow you to wear the Warden-Commander armor in DAA.

I had no idea the WC armor didn't carry over, by the time I end Origins, it's usually sat in my stash, unused as I've better things to equip.
The blade Starfang never carries over, I know that for sure. I've tried using the mod, but it simply doesn;t seem to work.

Yeah, I remember my disappointment over that sword. The WC armor looks cool but there are compatible armors that are as good stats-wise.
I'd recommend Wardens' Keep DLC anyway because it expands on what happened at Ostagar, gives a little insight into companions and gives you some nice loot to use in Origins. I enjoyed playing it a lot and it was worth it to me on those grounds.

It should if you use the mod, I used it throughout Awakening. >.< (Although there's one you can get in Awakening that looks sort of like it anyway)

"Why did they decide to make Warden's Keep DLC incompatible with Awakening?"
I could make a sarcastic crack about the bottles of fan tears running low in the Bioware breakroom, but honestly...
First, it would be the other way around: They decided to make Awakening incompatible with Warden's Keep.
Second, I would bet a box of doughnuts that they didn't "decide to make it incompatible." They decided not to require compatibility between the expansion and the DLC.
Nobody said, "Hey, know what we should do? Make it impossible for DLC equipment to carry over!" and then heads nodded.
Instead, somebody said, "What would it cost to do the QA [Quality Assurance] on establishing Awakening's compatibility with all the DLC?" and somebody threw out a large number. Then the first person said, "And how many units of DLC did we move? What percentage of the player base?" And the answer to that question was a small number.
So they could spend a lot of money doing testing on an expansion to make sure it worked with the DLC that not a lot of people (compared to total sales) bought...
...or they could not, and spend the money on (say) quests, or new companion design, or new locations.
And that was what they decided to do.

Never knew that, but I dont play as a Warrior or spec my mage to use Heavy armor... Warriors suit my style, but I stick to Mages and Rogues, so I guess this doesnt bother me. I think the storage chest is nice. For some reason, I got Warden's Keep for free if I am not mistaken (before I bought UE)...
Also, just buy the Ultimate Edition if you can find it. I got one used at Gamestop for a little over 20 bucks a few weeks ago... Would save you lots of money...
