That being said, if there are romances, as there definitely will be, equality is best. If you're gonna have optional things, make them optional for all of the players, not some of them.

How about they work on making the best game possible rather than trying to appease those who look for reasons to be offended by "not enough people of X race/sexuality/gender/whatever"?
It's a game, it's shouldn't be about showing IRL minorties in a certain light. Most of us would rather not suffer such preaching.
If the writer wants to make character X of a certain race or gender or whatever, let them, but it shouldn't be for this politically correct inclusitivity holding-hands and singing kumbia nonsense. It should be based on who they want that character to be.
If the writer wants character X to be straight that should be acceptable without "outrage" from those of the same gender who want to bang them. Character writing should come first, these other reasons based on supposed real world biases shouldn't even be a concern.
This Plus I would look at Mass Effect for this sort of thing. While I agree with the OP. Trying to be politically correct in a game that takes place in a medieval fantasy realm is tricky. Plus they seem the tackle a bunch of issues already. Racism, Strong women, and homosexuality. I'm not seeing what you want Bioware to tackle what hasn't already been tackled. Plus there is no need to be controversial just for the sake of it. Rather not have to deal of with the insane groups with a political agenda target Bioware. They get enough of that from Faux News whenever a new game comes out and it has sex scenes.

As Recon said, this is a game with a plot, not some romance simulator for minorities.
And it is equally not some romance simulator for straight, white folk. A decent percentage of Bioware's fanbase is not-white, especially if you consider that they sell internationally. I know some Bioware games are favorites of my cousins in México, D.F.. And yes, a decent percentage of Bioware's fan-base are not-straight. It's about being inclusive to their fans. And what about including more diverse characters in a story makes the plot worse or even threatened? Beyond the fact that they have seperate writers and alloted budgets, as has been said, a good story does not have homogeneous characters.

Why must fantasy mirror reality....
Which is why there shouldn't be such a tizzy about the inclusion of lots of bisexual characters etc.

First, I'd question your use of the phrase "look for reasons to be offended." It's not about being offended by these things not being included. It's about including them in the efforts of fairness. It's also not about being preachy. It's about simply doing the right thing, and showing diversity in a game when the efforts of doing so would be minor. Why would it offend you if these things are simply taken into consideration when coming up with characters for the game?
Fairness doesn't exist.
'Right thing' is subjective.
Diversity takes away from unity.
It would offend me because it would tell me the writers are more interested in catering to SJW romancers than making a good game.
And I want characters to be written and thought out well, not made gay or black for the sake of making them gay or black.
YOU SURE DO LOVE YOUR MIRANDA-MANCE THOUGH.
I do. And her as a character beyond a simple romance as well.

Would you not say that her...appearance... was crafted with a certain audience in mind. Dare I say to cater to or pander to a certain audience?

I find myself in the same boat as you on two counts, being heterosexual and white, but even still, the issues you bring up trouble me as well. I would be thrilled to see all races, genders, and sexual orientation represented fairly and equally, but people will always feel uncomfortable with one aspect or another and feel that the company is "pandering" to one group or another. That's just the way it is, unfortunately, and I think Bioware tries very hard to avoid stepping on toes.
That said, I do think they are heading in the right direction. It may feel very slowly for some, but they are trying. In Inquisition alone, given what we've seen so far, we have a strong woman (Casandra), a person of color (Vivienne), and the inevitable homosexual LI (based on previous installments), and that's more than many games get without them all falling into stereotypes and comic relief. I admire the company for trying to disperse the dude-bro mentality that permeates so many other action-oriented RPGs.

Op, I would also like the point out that this is one of the few devs who has a made a game with each character being asian and cast a black woman to voice and rascally ambiguous woman who happens to be a character who is strong and independent.
Yep, Bioware pretty much includes races based on it's setting

The only romance should be a shapeless genderless gelatinous cube, because fairness.
