So what's the maximum damage reduction you can get with a Volus (vanguard presumably), when using the BatGlove to nut-punch things?

90% is the maximum. Pop your shield for a 50% dr buffer, use the juggernaut gear, and you'll hit it I think. Assuming you're specced for melee fitness of course.

Also remember that the way DR works Everything is actually 40% less than it appears.

That means that shield boost would stop adding DR once you have hit 90%.   You can achieve higher levels of DR by other means though.

It has to do with the enemies damage and how it is calculated.  If I recall correcly their damage numbers are all based on you being in cover which provides 40% DR.  Their damage is higher when you are out of cover moving around.

How so? This is news to me, and I am now sad. 

Enemies attacking you out of cover receive a 40% attack bonus. When you enter cover this bonus is removed. You in essence are taking 40% less damage while in cover, you don't have any DR. This is likely to prevent cover invincibility that DR could create.

Actually young Paduan:  The DR provided by the shell and shield boost can be stacked. This includes external sources and can actually stack beyond the listed 90% in the shield boost, despite shield boost being used.  Lots of other good info in that link too.

The gaunlet provides 50% DR.
You get 50% DR for 4 seconds after Biotic Charge.
Shield boost 6b gives 50% DR for 6 seconds.

Therefor:
Boost --> cooldown --> Charge --> Nut Punch will give you >140% DR and you'll be invulnerable.

Charge(6a) --> Instant Boost --> Nut Punch will do it quicker about half the time if you took Bonus Charge (6a)
