Samara: I loved her poise and power. She to me was a true Strong Female Character. A shame though about her first outfit still being a bit sexual, but I think of it like the Power Girl outfit. She's strong enough to where the look doesn't matter.

Shiala: Dropped potential. Her story interwining with indoctrination and the hive mind of the Feros people...FANTASTIC!

Tela Vasir: The Asari Shepard.or not, depending on how you play...either way, an Asari Spectre who actually acted like a Spectre...they are outside and above Council law for the most part, why not link up with the Shadow Broker when necessary?

Samara and Shiala are the only ones who seem to have any sort of presence (if you don't know what I mean then, erm, I'm not sure how to explain it).

I'm curious what the factors are behind Vasir's mild popularity on the BSN.

Is it become she's a 'badass'? Is she a 'badass' who 'gets the job done'?

For me anyways, its that she is a true equal to Shepard in both status and ability, is willing to call Shepard out on working for Cerberus, and the fact that she is so short lived.  Leaves a lot open to interpretation.

Vasir has lots of cutscene power, I'll give her that, but most of what she actually does is kill an unarmed salarian, [unsuccessfully] keep a hostage and speak out about Cerberus.

 Asari I liked:

Matriarch Aetheyta - Fun, smart mouth, and just plain awesome

Thessia Asari (Lieutenant Kurin, Specialist Jenova, Outpost Tykis) - I felt for them, they were the only reason I was rooting for the asari

Matriarch Benezia - She made a good villain, and she tried to stop Saren and failed. Good to know she's not all-powerful

ME2 Aria T'Loak - She was just a spoonful, but that spoonful was all we needed to like her

Samara - Of all the characters, she was the most alien aside from Legion. I play a game with aliens, I want people with alien viewpoints, and to understand said alien viewpoints.

Asari I hated:

Liara - She's not my friend, I don't want her shoved on me. She had no purpose to being in ME1, and in ME3, she had no business taking over my ship, inviting herself up to my room.

ME3 Aria T'Loak - In a day in the limelight episode focused on her, I should not have to want her to shut up before the first part of the mission ends.

Councilor Tevos - At least Irissa had a slightly justifable reason for being cold (the last time Shepard had power, he screwed over the asari). She was being obstructionist for the sake of obstructionist. And I could have used some asari diplomacy at my summit

Morinth - Boring sex space-vampire. I would have liked her "I'm the destiny of the asari" to be something better, since the refutation (Ardat-Yakshi are sterile) made too much sense

I'm just going to say I love Liara, Samara, Tevos, Shiala and Tela Vasir. I'd try to list them in some kind of order, but honestly what's the point when I like each one for a different reason?

Liara appeals to my personal preferences for women as smart but largely submissive and demure. The 'shy, cute, geeky girl' stereotype, essentially. She also has, by far, the best chemistry with Shepard of all LI's. It also helps that she's extremely useful in the actual game, with the best biotic ability in both ME1 and ME3.

Samara does not appeal to me in any sexual or romantic sense, because frankly she's scary as balls. But she's a Paladin, essentially. Lawful Good with an extremist conviction and the arcane combat skills to boot, and I really do love me some Paladins. She provides a very different perspective and is the first clear indicator that the asari culture is a not a lesbian utopia as Liara may wish to convey, but a culture with flaws and old 'uncivilized' traditions, just like any other.

Tevos is gorgeous, to start with. She has the necessary high intellect and wicked cunning of such a political figure mostly conveyed through manipulation and a calculated demeanour to allow for the Council to remain as ignorant of galactic goings-on as the plot requires, but I actually find it all quite appealing. Aside from personal preferences for strong intellectual women (What, I can like both that -and- cute bookish types, no?) she's just an all-round likable character who is, ultimately, neither a villain or a true ally, walking the line of gray. As an aside? Lovely voice.

Shiala is probably the most conventional asari you meet, despite turning a bit of a sickly color eventually. She provides a grounded but not too human-like perspective of the average asari, being articulate, polite and helpful, and ultimately not "standing out" (perhaps the green skin was a means to amend that?) as a character, unlike all the other prominent asari who have some kind of defining 'trait' (Liara's bookishness and youth, Samara's age and Code, Aria's psychopathy etc). Could have been a great squadmate, really, perhaps exploring the implications of the indoctrination and Thorian control which otherwise only gets a brief cameo-mention. Also has a lovely voice.

Tela Vasir is basically the asari version of FemShep, and there's no way I'm not into that. A hardass who fights for what she wants and what she thinks is right. She's only really your enemy by necessity, and you bet I'd take her on my squad if I could. That boss fight is pretty awesome too, especially since there's no specific "do this to win" condition like with the Broker himself or the Reaper-Baby. Just slug it out until one of you drops.

Favorite:

Aethyta: do I even need to say why?

Wasea: Okay, her appearance was short. But it was cool! Casually drinking and reading a datapad, not even paying attention to you. Smashing the biotic god in the renegade path. Good stuff for such a one-note villain.

Asari Adept: multiplayer characters don't count? Well tell that to my Stasis.

Least favorite:

Morinth: boring, vicious, hypocrite, one-note, absolute waste of space.

Samara: morally depraved lawful stupid type who openly admits to murdering police officers just for doing their jobs. And just looks creepy to me. Also, refuses to wear armor around a vital region just so she can flash her ****** to everyone.

Aria T'Loak: utterly insufferable and smug. Cruel, arrogant, and condescending. I wish it was possible to just not help her take Omega, so she goes ahead and gets killed trying. But no, if you don't help she'll just hang around the Citadel all game. Ah well, at least she was probably killed in the end of ME3 when the Reapers captured the Citadel. Oh wait, but that means the actually likable characters probably died with her. Dammit.

It's because she's willing to do whatever it takes for a mission. She's a Spectre, so she's obviously very skilled, and she is very resourceful and clever. Her taking a hostage was brilliant. The only problem is that she's dealing with a guy who's perfectly willing to kill a hostage (or 10). Plus, if you play an uber-Paragon Shepard, she gives you a good speech on why you're full of ****. Renegade makes it appear forced.

No she really doesn't.

She neglects to realize that while Shep does work with Cerberus he/she isn't doing their dirty work like she is for the SB. Shep's not the one dragging around husks and experimenting on them while she is blowing up buildings full of civilians for the SB.

If anything Shep's using Cerberus while the SB is using her. So hell yeah my Shep'll presume to judge her. It's one thing to work with the SB it's quite another to be his attack dog. (My Shep had no issues working with the SB in ME1 and even gave him a copy of the data after all it was thanks to the SB's info that he even got Tali (went the Wrex route and then picked up Garrus).)

I thought most of the Asari we meet were really good characters. It's difficult to nail (heh, Krogan) down a favourite. Aria, Tela Vasir, Shiala, Nassana Dantius, Benezia, Morinth, Samara, Liara... all great encounters, companions or enemies.

Tela Vasir and Samara. Asari warriors like them are the only ones I can take seriously or stand. I can't take Aria seriously, too arrogant and stuck up. Aethyta's cool too, though.

...Maybe I just hate the idea that they're space lezzies who seem to only exist for sex appeal. Meh.

I enjoyed Nassana Dantius' character. After doing her quest in ME1, it was fun to crack wise to her "Maybe I just missed you" before she got Drell'd.

I do like that this is occasionally criticized by other people, and even other asari. But then you have others that use it for nefarious means, like Aria. If you talk to her on Omega, she hints at this when you ask about her history with Patriarch and how she got people to leave his fold.

Likes:
Samara - I liked her calm demeanor, strong convictions (even if they could be suffocating at times), and the fact that her whole reason for being what she is is because of her children.  It's pretty powerful stuff really.  Also Lawful Good to a T.

Liara - People focus too much on how present she is and not on her character, which is a shame.  She does tend to make a pretty large jump between ME1 and 2 in personality, going from a shy, awkward archeologist to a ruthless information broker.  It was rather jarring.  That said, I think she grew into her role as an information broker pretty well, especially after LotSB and ME3.

Aetheyta - Her being Liara's father is just icing on her gruff, no-nonsense personality and dry sense of humor.

Aria - I liked how confident and self-assured she was most of the time, even if she could come across as a bit of a blowhard sometimes.

Dislikes:
- Most of the unnamed, random asari that we meet tend to be rather stuck up, or ditzy, or judgemental.

Vesir - I didn't particularly like her personality even before she turned on Shepard, seeming a bit too arrogant and insulting of both the police officers and Liara.  Being able to lose what looked like gallons of blood and still be strong enough to take a hostage and provide a difficult boss fight afterwards also annoyed me.

Shiala - Mostly how she randomly comes onto you in ME2, I thought she was a somewhat interesting character before that.

This makes Gianna Parasini's comment about the asari all the more enjoyable.

"I love nailing asari, so ageless and superior. Then you get them and they squeal like schoolgirls."

In her position, I'd feel the same way.
