This is surely going to be a short thread because this was probably covered a long time ago. Please feel free to link to the correct posts that discuss this.

I play on PC.

I am confused by the triggering of biotic/tech explosions. There are times when it seems like I have done everything perfectly to make an explosion, but it doesn't happen. Here are my questions:

1) If a biotic/tech combo is perfectly set up, will it trigger every time? Or is there always a random chance that it will fail?

2) If the trigger has enough power to kill the enemy, does the explosion trigger? Or does it just die without exploding?

3) Who gets the credit (score) for the explosion? The person who primed it or triggered it?

4) Does biotic charge always trigger a primed target? Or is there some chance that it will fail? I played a few games where I followed around the adepts and tried to trigger explosions after they primed it but the chance of success was low.,

5) For ammo-based priming what does the ammo level do? Does using a higher level of ammo increase the priming duration, the damage done by the explosion, or does it increase the chance of triggering it?

Thanks!

Yes

Prime
Yes
All ammo primers are level 1.

1)Yes assuming there isn't lag bad enough to lose the primer or detonator and assuming the primer is still active.
2)Should trigger the combo explosion regardless. At one time the target had to die to trigger certain combo explosions.
3)Priming power receives kill credit.
4)Assuming no one is using disruptor, cryo, incendiary. The BE should trigger.
5)Higher chance of proccing, more damage usually to certain defense types, duration I don't think is effected, ammo powers are a level one primer.

I've been playing the game basically since release and I still scratch my head over this. I find that very often my BE don't trigger as they should. I'm pretty sure there are ammo types and powers that override your priming and some such nonsense.

Yes.  It will occasionally (rarely) miss a target if you're off host.  But in the scenario you describe above, it's likely that the biotic prime was masked by a tech primer due to disruptor ammo or a tech power and you detonated the tech burst instead.  Tech bursts are sometimes hard to noticed.  Yet another reason to take bonus power 6a, to have a chance of triggering both combos.

FYI, reave is the only biotic detonator that ignores an overlayed tech primer.  Drelldept, ftw.

There are a lot of tech-based skills and ammo powers that "overlap" biotic combos.

I don't know what the priotiry order is, but basically, if you (biotic) prime a target, then (you or someone) shoot it with disruptor ammo, then enemy is primed for a tech burst by the ammo, which will detonate before the biotic power will.

The sucky thing is that the ammo is level 1, while the power is whatever it is.

As a helpful precaution, never use disruptor or incendiary ammo with a biotic class unless that is a specific intention of yours (for example, Incendiary + Throw)

Did not know 6a will detonate both with one charge.

Did not know Reave avoided this problem.

Thank you for posting that!

Actually go ahead and keep that ammo on; double the explosions. So someone warps a baddie and then someone else shoots it with disrupter ammo. The first throw (or charge or whatever) will trigger the tech burst. Charge/throw/whatever again and you get the bio boom too. Melts crap fast.

EDIT:  CHarge 6a won't detonate both with one charge.  But since you'll likely be able to charge a second time you'll get both explosions.

Also,'d

It doesn't. The point is to charge twice and detonate both the tech and biotic explosions that way.

on the who gets the credit, i think that if the detonating power is enough to kill the target outright the detonator gets the credit. if the explosion kills the target the primer gets the credit.

Yeah - but I've noticed that often it'll not trigger the sound or animation; you might still get an adjacent Biotic Explosion kill if you explode something next to a Husk for instance but there won't have actually been a BOOM!

Yes, it also seams that often when there are no targets in range of the explosion it doesn't animate
