If you had the choice, then how would you want the Catalyst to look like?

+

Is there any way to actually accomplish a way in game to do this? Like making a transparant LI the Catalyst?

I'd change the appearance to look like my dead squadmates, and lastly changing to my LI before I make the choice. (Sort of like how the Leviathan communicates through memories of people you've met)

I'd make the catalyst look like a thresher maw, for they are the true master race.

I personally had no problem with the appearance of the Catalyst, from previous exposure of other Science fiction/fantasy works, I immediately knew that the AI had gotten the image from Shepard's mind and was projecting it in a bid to appear more familiar and less threatening and make Shepard more inclined to listen to it, projecting itself as your LI would have had the same effect, it obviously isn't the Catalyst's normal form.

This and any other important NPCs like Saren (especially when talking about synthesis), Eve and TIM.

That would be so much greater than what we have right now.
That sequence with Leviathan had indeed way more impact. Shame it wasn't in the ending.

Even NegaShepard would've been a better option than the kid. I don't understand why Shepard doesn't have nightmares about him/her.

If there was to be an appearance change, I would say make the Catalyst have no appearance at all. Instead it would just be a voice, not a kids voice, something like the Reapers but without the malevolence. Speaking to you from another plane of existence.

The problem is the Catalyst is an all powerful being according to the ending and a human size projection would reduce it to something less, or worse an emotional manipulation when it should be above that sort of thing.

But that's just my opinion.

So why exactly do people think the Catalyst would be better if it looked like dead squadmates?

People are gleefully eager to announce how much they despise him, gleefully eager to announce how wrong and stupid he is, and yet they think that giving him a trustworthy voice would be an improvement?

A simple question: Do people want the Catalyst to be wrong, or to be right?

I think part of the reason the Catalyst is hated is because of its appearance. (I can't stand children).

By recognizing that the Catalyst is merely projecting itself as a child (and is actually an ominous consciousness), I'm able to look past its appearance and appreciate the character and the ending.

I never said I despise him or that he's wrong. It doesn't have anything to do with that.
Shepard lost quite a few people during the triology, characters that were dear to her.
But this whole 'child idea' is based on that one single moment, where the child refuses your help. It's trying to force an emotional connection, while it might succeed at that with some players. Former squadmates have a much better succes at this, because those squadmates were part of the story before.

This thread is not about why the ending is good or bad or anything in between.
It's just about whether a different appearance of the Catalyst would be an improvement or not.

I would have change the catalysts appearance to something like vigils appearance, where you cant really tell that much about the "real" look.

Problem is that former squadmates can be both loved and hated by player and in second case they would be more probably dead. Virmire choice is probabbly best example of case when new Catalyst woudl b someone you donť like or donť care about him.

I think the child represented the new life of a major choice. I didn't have a problem with the picture. However, I'm not sure if you can change it.

True, but there is more than just the Virmire sacrifice. We've got Kaidan/Ashley + anyone who died in the Collector's Base + Thane + most likely Mordin + even Andersson (he's not a squadmate, I know, but still very intertwined with Shepard)... I believe the player would care more about the Catalyst if it showcased those who were lost during the triology. I might be wrong in this, but I would be surprised.

I really want him to be wrong. NegaShepard is about as wrong as it gets.

I wished it took on the broken form of Vigila as well as the voice, the moment with Vigil is very memorable. The Catalyst scene could have been memorable in a good way as well.

He should be a 6 foot tall ice cream cone so synthesis makes more sense. Nobody can say no to ice cream.

I would turn the catalyst into three cupcakes: one with blue frosting, one with green frosting, and one with red frosting.

Just give it the voice of a Reaper.
