What happened to the CARNIFEX? Do you still use it?

Not as much as "before" the Paladin.
Actually like it on Asari Commando and/or Justicar.

Not since I got a decent enough level on my paladin.
Yeah, starting about about IV, my Paladin was better, and I've been sticking with it ever since.

Almost all pistols got multiple buffs, to the point of OP, cos they sucked at the beginning (Arc, Eagle and so on)
Carnifex was the only pistol that hit the sweet spot between rarity, accuracy, ammo, weight and power. It was ideal for casters, but not too great. So Biower has said - let's nerf it and buff the other ones like the Talon and Arc to be stupid powerful and make the Carnifex look laughable in comparison.
Could not have said it better.

100% agree. I have fond memories of using The Carnifex over the first few months of playing it was the best weapon I had for both range and damage.billpickles wrote...

^ This.
I remember when I was first starting and couldn't get any decent weapons to unlock. The Carnifex was my best friend. I used it on seemingly every class for what seemed like forever. Fortunately, I unlocked some better options before Bioware hit it with the nerf hammer because too many people were using it.
I also think it's funny that you can make a head shot across the map with a pistol, but I am not going to complain.

Sorry, but the Paladin completely outclasses it
ever since they had the same weight.
Yup. I used the Carnifex often as a lighter alternative to the Paladin on my casters, but after that change there was little point. More damage is superior to a few more shots per clip, especially on a caster where the ideal is to fire powers, not shoot your full clip.

Everytime I do the pistol challenge... I dread using it. It's a freakin awful gun IMO...
Hahaha same here, this is why I've completed pistol mastery only once!
So what is actually the difference between the carnifex and the paladin? I know that the carnifex has more rounds in the magazine, but are there any other major differences?

The paladin does significantly more damage per shot. It's an excellent gun on kits with stasis (for headshoting while staying light).

But with this said the Carnifex was awesome in Mass Effect 2.
Fun trivia about the Carnifex:
º Carnifex means "butcher" in Latin - literally, "a maker of meat". Due to the tendency to employ butchers as public executioners, the word carnifex shifted from its original meaning and came to mean both a butcher and an executioner.
º The appearance is based on the alternate pistol in Mass Effect.
º The pistol has "Magnus" (Latin for "great") written on its side. This is a possible reference to highly powerful 'magnum' cartridges, which are enlarged versions of other existing cartridges, and possess immense stopping power.
º The M-77 Paladin and M-11 Suppressor are variants of the Carnifex.
º During Mass Effect 3, in the course of unsuccessfully trying to persuade Mordin Solus to sabotage the genophage cure, the Commander threatens him with a Carnifex, the same weapon Mordin offered Shepard as a sign of goodwill in Mass Effect 2.
