Does it make any sense to allocate any points to your Mages' strength and/or dexterity?

Not really and Arcane Warrior is your best friend for flexiblity for your mages. And yes they have reach as well.

Makes sense if you are using anything other than a staff, more so if you specialize as an arcane warrior. STR and DEX both increases attack rating, something a mage doesn't usually have aplenty. DEX is a far far better option though.
