Must they shave their hairy bits when they join the qun? If that's the case it would seem a waste.

The Qun demands you to be clean-shaven!

I hope the elves catch a break too. In fact, I hope this time we can actually get the ball rolling in improving their lot the way we could for mages in DA2, rather than things looking marginally better until they go back the way they were at the end of DA:O. (Even the best CE epilogue shows "much as things change, they stay the same" and the Dalish undergo some tragedy after getting the Hinterlands.)

It doesn't matter how they feel, allowing the Chantry to do it is wrong, period.

What are we to tell the poor victims of a possessed mage?

We could have protected you but a bleeding heart thought it would be wrong!

I hope to burn Orlais to the ground and let the Elves rule over the ashes.

Nothing like a bit of ethnic cleansing and a racially segregated dictatorship to erase the wrongs caused by a racially segregated dictatorship that perpetrated ethnic cleansing.

I hope I have the option to stroll through a city elf alienage in gold plated armor while yelling at them all to get a job. Maybe smacking some beggars with a pimp-cane.

YES! I would love this!

And nobles shouldn't own serfs, but no one ever talks about that. At least, not for awhile.

Elves are the serfs.

If only the Civil Rights and Womens' Suffrage movements had Dave of Canada to help them see the light.

That violent uprising, isolationism, and xenophobia would have been counterproductive, and integration with the oppressive society would reform it?

Well, yeah, that's kind of what they (didn't) do. And, look back then to now, they got a lot more out of it than a lot of countries that tried revolutionary reformist movements.

Instead of changing the Chantry, countries could just opt to stop listening to it.

inb4 exalted march

Actually, Exalted Marches of the past required the Chantry to get the armies of various nations involved, in order to be successful. The Chantry didn't drive the Qunari back to Par Vollen by itself; it took the combined might of most of Thedas.

If the nations of Thedas rebel against the Chantry, then the Chantry won't actually have the forces to conduct an Exalted March. The Templars and Seekers aren't numerous enough to march on all the nations at once, and that's assuming they don't defect from the Chantry to defend their home countries.

If the nations of Thedas rebeled against the Chantry, the Chantry itself would probably be flipped and side with the new consensus. It's not like the Chantry draws from views and peoples outside of Thedas.

You can tell them whatever you want, I'm going to tell them that their suffering at the hands of one individual isn't justification for the blanket persecution of a minority.

If their attacker had instead been a perfectly mundane serial killer, would you take that as justification to imprison everyone with the capacity to wield a weapon? Everyone with the strength to commit murder with their bare hands? Everyone with the intelligence to concoct a poison?

Probably not. Which would make you an enormous hypocrite.

But blanket persecutions for fictional (and wildly fantastical) minorities are ever so much fun!

Those mages should really just be happy that Thedas doesn't follow the 40k method. "Kill most of em, feed some of them to the golden throne, and use the rest for communications!"

I was disapointed that Ulfric never gave my pro-stormcloak Dragonborn the order to ethnically cleanse the dark elves from Windhelm and send them packing back to Morrowind in "Skyrim".

There is something you are ignoring here:

The mages demand their "persecution." As do the elves.

The mages persecution is a direct result of them being a liability for everyone that isn't a mage. The elves' persecution is a direct result of their own weakness and their desire to be the persecutors themselves.

Both groups bring it upon themselves.

Of course, your average person isn't born with a machine gun for arms.

Of course I wouldn't, those people can't level buildings with their mind in a fit of pique or act as dimensional doorways for demons that can turn a child into a relentless killing machine.

Reminds of that one quote. What was it again?

"Guns don't kill people. People kill people."

So even if they were born with machine gun arms, they shouldn't be imprisoned for having them.
