This is why only fools are heroes - because they never know when some lunatic will come along with a sadistic choice.

If the infamous Virmire decision involved these two people, instead of Ashley or Kaiden, who would you choose to save? According to my now-closed  poll, most of you already chose Garrus...

What decision would you make and why?

Garrus because he is iconic character, good in combat and in a advice for Shepard ("plot wise"), seems to be obeying Shepard no matter what, while Tali would always choose her race (witch is good) over you and your mission to save everyone (witch is bad).

So yea, Garrus. But Tali is also a worthy character, just not on wide scale like Garrus.

Garrus in my Maleshep playthrough, Tali in my Femshep playthrough.
Bro's before hoes. Or whatever the female equivalent is.
Although Femshep having to settle for Kaidan would be sad...

I like them both too much to really choose. Buuuuuut... objectively speaking, as an admiral of the quarian fleet, Tali is probably more valuable. So her, I suppose.
But of course I'd just take a third option. If there wasn't one, I'd get very upset with Bioware, then write them a letter, telling them how upset I am.

Right. Unless the chick is a dick. Then it's fine to pick the dick.
I think?

So do I want to be a babysitter or a commissioner? Tough choice.

I'd save garrus, and sacrifice tali. I like her character development, but I really dislike the quarians. Also, she's just an engineer, garrus is a soldier - more useful.

Tali.

Sorry, but Garrus is just a bland yes-man and forced bro.

Tali, she is barely more than a naive teenager at Virmire, while Garrus is the duty-bound soldier/cop. His death would be honorable and mean something, hers would be pointless.

Also, Tali rocked a wicked shotgun/shields combo in ME1, and I used her to open all the crates.

On the bright side, With only one dextro left alive, there is no need to waste good credits on actual dextro-food, that person can live on nutrient paste from now on...

I do my best to save both, jumping off one side of the bridge, catching Garrus, then swinging underneath the bridge to catch Tali.

However, this leaves me vulnerable for the Green Goblin to fly in and stab me with his glider. But just then, some cool people up on the bridge start throwing stuff at the Goblin, distracting him and giving Garrus and Tali a chance to climb down the web to the boat below so that I, Commander Spiderman, can attack the Green Goblin and reveal him to be...

...
to be...
Huh.

Um... who's an evil father figure in Mass Effect...

I know! The Green Goblin turns out to be Jacob's Dad! And Jacob never forgives Commander Spiderman for killing his father, because he doesn't realise that his father was the Green Goblin.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Wait, what was your original question?

Miranda's father would make a better Green Goblin, and Miranda would make an equally bad second Green Goblin as Jacob.

Good point. Henry Lawson even has the mad scientist at the head of an evil corporation thing going. Damn, I should have thought of that...

Garrus in my main playthrough. Tali is my Shepard's romance but it's not just that, Garrus seems like the sort of character who would do the sacrifice. I'm sure Tali would, but Garrus seems more fitting. They are my two favourite characters though, so it would be hard either way.

I would save Tali, only because as far as you know you're fighting Geth and a Quarian is probably better at fighting Geth than anyone.
