Not metagaming (oh Virmire is rly rly happening!!11) --> Bye Garrus, save Tali. She did more for the ME1 main story (data on Saren instead of pursuing Saren). Heck, Garrus is even optional.

Metagaming (so keeping ME2-3 in mind) --> Bye Tali, save Garrus. I'm not particularly attached to Tali even though I like her. Not super attached to Garrus either (Team Dextro don't work on me) but I like him more and he looks like someone who's actually earning his place as potential new leader of the whole Turian species (I don't buy Tali's potential admiralty even though the story is sweet!).

I would sacrifice Tali, and save Garrus for the Citadel Coup.

True answer: I would save Tali, because my manly hormones are too strong, even if it's only a virtual woman.

Logical would be Garrus, because he is good with assault (short and medium range) and sniper rifle (long range).

Even though Garrus is my favorite character, I kinda have to go with Tali on this one. This is just hypothetical, because if there was actually a choice I'd probably save my bro Vakarian, but, my reason for saving Tali is that in each game, she gets a little better. Tali is one of the few character who's arc really developes through all 3 games. Yeah you can have her die in ME2, but I think she's still a vital character in the 3rd act of the game and I love her interactions with everyone, and her position in the Geth conflict. Plus her dialogue with Shepard, that final 1 on 1 you have with her on pre-battle London is one of my favorite moments on the game. Plus I wouldn't miss "emergency induction port" for the world.

Honestly I do like Tali, not as a romance but as a hot best friend. Which is why I like both her and Garrus alive because I think they deserve to be happy and have eachother.

Probably Tali, some times when I play chivalry sneaks into Shepard's morality, so I would choose the young woman over the more experienced male Garrus. This happened with Ashley on my first play through in ME1.

I think Garrus is like, 6-7 years older than Tali tops. And I understand choosing women first. Not sure about him being "more experienced".

I'd save Garrus...I rather liked him in ME1 (unfortunately his character went downhill fast for me in ME2). Tali was more or less a walking quarian encyclopedia in ME1.

I'm curious. What did he do in ME2 that upset you? I thought he was just as unobtrusive in both (and in a way, his loyalty mission was sort of a rehash about the same issues.. how to dispense justice and whatnot).

edit: I play maleSheps though, so maybe it's different.

I was never a fan of him and his "bro" attitude in ME2/3. The good point about ME1 Garrus was that you could shape his personality a bit (tell him that rules and procedures matter/paragede him)...it had him and Shep in sort of a student/teacher relationship. Shepard who gave her opinion about Garrus's attitude, and Garrus learning from what Shepard just said. That was more special than what came afterwards imo.

Take for example the London goodbye scenes. You have two options for a response to Garrus: "There is no Shepard without Vakarian" or "Shepard and Vakarian storming heaven", it's also basically "your my best friend Garrus" or "your my best friend Garrus". Every other squadmate has a friendship/romance path and a "neutral" path (you can accept or refuse Liara's gift etc.). Or the speech Shepard is giving to him on the citadel about Garrus being his/her only true friend.  He's not only Shepards friend...he's obviously her best friend.

Yeah, I don't like the forced bro stuff either (I don't mind that with some playthroughs, but not all), but I don't think it was that dominant a theme in ME2 (then again, you said it's just beginning of Garrus going downhill).

Those Garrus still give you just those two options if you never talk to him? Cause in that case that's odd.

Also Shep turns down Liara's gift with a "this really isn't the time." that's not the same as going "No".

Though she at least doesn't offer if you never talk to her.

On a sidenote, my main playthrough I don't even recruit Garrus. So it's kind of an interesting twist in ME3. I guess that's my own way of rationalizing it. Like Shepard has done a 180 and is buddies with a Turian now. He used to be as bad as CloneShep in ME1. That's basically who CloneShep is.
